    Ahh, back when little kids were free to be little kids. We could haul off on our bikes without having to give a travel itinerary to our parents, watch whatever we wanted on the tube as long as it wasn't on past our bedtime, play cops 'n robbers with REAL pretend guns(!), and sex was something we giggled about. Little kids must be so stressed out today. I think it's genuinely tragic. What I would give for a bag of marbles, a Putt-Putt golf course, and a fishing pole. Thanks for the vid, Fred.

    Kenny Delmar (at 9:24 list of voices) of the famous cartoon character "Foghorn Leghorn" (and later The Hunter) was inspired by Delmar's sensational radio character Senator Beauregard Claghorn on Fred Allen's "Allen's Alley" radio show. Delmar used a southern accent, although he was from Boston! Delmar was inspired for the windbag character by a Texas cattle rancher who had picked him up while he was hitchhiking and barely stopped talking. Claghorn was so southern, he opined in the radio show, that he refused to drink from anything but Dixie Cups, and refused to go through the Lincoln Tunnel in New York City! Clagorn's catchphrase was "That's a joke, son!" which was mimicked by children and adults after his Oct. 1945 appearance on Allen's show. Kenny Delmar was 73 when he died in July 1984.

    Great stuff from our youth, Fred. Y'know, one thing that caught my eye was during the 1968 Nestle Quik commercial. The boy getting the milk out of the vault/fridge. Seeing the bottle of milk, such as it was, really caught my attention. A fond memory of the days when we got milk in glass bottles sealed on top with a stamped foil-covered paper cap. Now those were the days! Thank you, Fred! You helped make my day a little brighter. :-)

    I remember KIX cereal.
    I begged mom to get me some. She did.

    • @StephyDee
      @StephyDee Před 4 lety +1

      Jeff King y’know, I can vouch for those Kix tasting like cardboard, pour that milk on it and it’s just.......balls of meh lol. I WILL say though that growing up I figured out that Kix only tastes good, and I mean slightly sweet, crunchy and easy to eat, when they’re 100% dry. Pour some in a ziplock bag and snack on it during the day, and it’s 1000% better. I almost feel like they only taste tested the cereal with no milk and failed to notice how incredibly bland it is with milk, because holy hell the difference is ridiculous lol

    Thanks for sharing these commercials with us when they were done in black and white. When they were off cartoons kids lives weren't complicated like today. Instead of yearning for their electronic devices, they wanted to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings. They certainly were content with that. What a contrast from 50 Yrs ago to today, because things were just plain and simple. Instead of Mighty Mouse saving the day Under Dog is here. At least Under Dog had a girl friend Mighty Mouse didn't. Thanks for sharing this with us Fred, the simpler times.

    I remember the Burger King Whopper commercial! It was around 1970 and I went with dad because he loaned a friend some money. It was a Saturday morning and the guy's kids were watching cartoons and eating cereal. I was kinda sad because they were watching cartoons on KNBC Channel 4 , Los Angeles. My favorite cartoons were on Channel 2 , KNXT , Los Angeles. I tried to get them to turn the channel to no avail. I was hungry because I didn't eat breakfast. We left home early in the morning and dad said we'll be home soon. The kids didn't offer me cereal. Dad noticed I was looking forlorn , and he went to Burger King and bought me a Whopper , fries and soda. The kids wanted a bite and I said , "No", lol!

      Initially, CBS didn't want people to realize that "MAYBERRY R.F.D." wasn't exactly the same as "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW". So they hinted that Andy would be just as much a part of the new series in their promos. Andy appeared four times during the first season (his fifth and final appearance was the opening episode of season two in 1969)- and that was it. No matter: "MAYBERRY R.F.D." was the #4 show in the 1968-'69 Nielsen ratings, and just as popular as Andy's had been.

      Andy Griffith was setting Ken up for the "MAYBERRY" series by bringing "Sam Jones" into town for his last four episodes. When "MAYBERRY RFD" premiered in September 1968, Andy and Helen got married {Barney was his best man, of course} on the first episode, and eventually moved to Raleigh. Andy occasionally appeared during the next two seasons. But CBS tried to maintain the illusion he'd appear more often, in their promos before the show's premiere.
