Who doesn't appreciate that she works on her floor?!!! Girl, we love you for keeping it so real!!
hahah omg I WISH I had a fancy studio with a fancy cutting table and all that jazz.
My back would kill me if I worked on the floor. Nobody has room for a dedicated 'fancy' cutting table but any kitchen table can be used as a cutting table. You can get folding cardboard cutting mats for very cheap and I put it on top of my kitchen table. (or I use my teflon rotary cutting mat if i am using a rotary cutter). The cardboard one is bigger and works fine for cutting with scissors. Save your back, save your floor and rug. You will thank yourself when you get older. That's keeping it super real!
@@lestranged My love lets me set up those big white tables side by side in his garage. :-) It is great. I'm toooo old to work on the floor but there were those days.
I LITERALLY saw a white shirt dress I wanted last night in the window of a shop. I was going to purchase it today, I’ll make one instead 😂
Music to my ears!
I think the word you mean is godet, pronounced "go-day"
There is a word gore which is usually a pattern piece that has a flare when 4 or more pieces are sewn together to make a flared hem on a skirt. Godets are usually inserted like you did and are added at hem to give a flouncy look, as you said.
Great how to video as usual and beautifully done !! 👏
I think she means GORE (which is the wrong word, as you correctly said , godet is more accurate) but she is saying GORD which makes it very confusing. Gores are not triangle insets, they are wedge shaped pieces that go all the way from waist to hem to make up the skirt. But GORD is nothing, it's a non existent word I don't know where that D came from.
hahah yes I am learning that very quickly here in the comments section that they are called GORE, or GORES for plural or a GORED Skirt. Some are saying Godets but most are saying Gore. I dunno lol The negatives of being Self taught...I screw up the technical/proper stuff all the time.
@@TheDIYDesigner Most are saying "gores" because they're just correcting the pronunciation. But if you do some research you can learn the difference between gores and godets. Gores are wedge shaped pieces that go from waist to hem, multiple gores make up the entire skirt. Godets are triangle shaped pieces that are inset into the bottom of a skirt.
Hehe! I kept thinking 'Calabash' every time Orly said 'Gords'. :-) However I loved the project.
Orly BRAVO!! This is as good as the rainbow shoes. A little young for me I think but perfect to do for my granddaughters!! Love love love!!😘😍😍😍
Love the idea of finishing the hem with the horse hair (I did not even know that was horse hair ) makes it look very expensivo
And she models?! Gurl youre a TALENT!!!!
Now that "Tumblr is back" this is a greaaat way to get the boyfriend shirt + skater skirt combo but fresh, modern, classy. Loved it!
This is absolutely stunning. It looks like a designer dress!
You right ,but a designer dress was lucky that she knows someone to become a designer dress ,their was a teacher that l never forget and told me ,not how much you know but who you know ,,,and now l know why
When you found 2 white shirt at the thrift store but put it back, because you dont want to become a hoarder of anything else.. because you already hoard canvas's, paint, and craft supplies...
But now Orly made a dress and you want to go back to the store🤦🏽♀️
Love this dress!!!
😂😂😂😂✌️
hahahah
I relate way too hard to this comment 😬😬
Omg that lip color!!! Sooooo pretty!
The best hobby teens should have…. It stimulates the creative part of the brain and become problem solvers. ❤
Orly I look so forward to seeing what’s up your sleeve. It’s worth watching every week. I’ve made afew of the items
What a brilliant way to make the gores! Each gore would otherwise be so challenging.
Definitely looks store bought. Beautiful dress for a teenager. Awesome tutorial.
I think it could be worn at any age. I'm 54yo and I'd wear it. I love it ❤!!!
(A long or longer version would be beautiful and GREAT to wear also).
Very imaginative. I will be 80 my next birthday so won't be wearing it, but I get a kick out of your videos as I used to model and teach modeling and ballroom dance and am currently getting back into clothes design and sewing (on a more conservative level). I love your ingenuity and energy!
this is CRAAAAZZYY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!! wowowowowow
Wow, Orly, You are so nice, telling the technical details and Stichting methods. Thanks for sharing.
This is Orly Shani Expert Level, Baby!
Wow, wow, WOW!! YOU are truly amazing! Love watching your videos.
Thanks so much 😊
What I enjoyed is that you wore one of your DIY hack shoes as well! I watched making that one too. Love it when you pair your own diy glamor.
This little numbs is soooo cute!!! Great job, thank you for sharing. I love how you love clothes and detail.👍🏿
Love this idea.
Adding the ***** GODET ****** inserts........soooooooo many ideas for them.I’ve used this slash and spread technique in many garments I have designed....
This idea of the men’s shirts......simply genius 🥰
hahah yes I am learning that they're GORE. Multiples are GORES. and a dress tie them is a GORED dress haha. The comments section is my school haha The negatives of being Self taught...I screw up the technical/proper stuff all the time.
There are so many men's shirts at the thrift store. They are great to upcycle because of all that fabric.
Love watching you & ALL your projects. Keep sending us more.
Orly, fabulous!!!! What a fun project! As always, thanks for sharing!!! 💕😘💕
Best upscale of a men’s shirt I’ve seen! Love 💕
Hot upcycyle plus horse hair tutorial! It's a double win. Years ago, I brought a bunch few men's security shirts that all match.
Awesomeness, complete and utter awesomeness! Just an FYI, each separate 'panel' is called a GORE, no 'd'. The entire garment when complete, is called a gore'D' skirt/dress. Thus, several individual gores make it gore'D'.
thank you....I had no idea, clearly hahah
OMG! A homerun. So stunning!!
Thank you! 😊
I get excited because you're so excited. I love what you've done so far.
I am also loving those shoes!
they're a dIY on my channel! "Gucci Shoe Bows" and they're removable!
One of these days I try my best at one of these hacks. I love this one
I love it, but i would need it a little longer. I really enjoy your videos. I look forward to them. Blessings dear
I was thinking about this too...I was thinking about adding a waist band and maybe adding a trim or maybe adding an additional ruffle.
YEs I wish I made it a little longer too
This dress is everything. 😍🤩
Bonus video idea: rainbow one too :) This turned out very fun!
oh I tried and it was a major fail
She's so fricking good ! And ,she strides pretty pretty good !
@@TheDIYDesigner can I buy this dress from you I want it 🤞😃??
@@sandiegobarbieI want to buy one also! BTW: my real name is Barbie 😉
super talented Orly... ❤️❤️❤️
I probably won't do this project, but this video was worth watching for the excellent tips on putting in *gores*, ironing, doing u-turns on your sewing machine and ironing.
THE BEST DIY im OBSESSED WITH THIS!!! Im totally making this!!!
Oh I wish I was 18 again! This is so nice. Thanks!
i might not do the flared bottom but just the idea of making a normal shirt dress from 2 shirts and dumping a black corset belt over it to hide the waist seam is chef's kiss! thank you!
That is an absolute genius hack.I think possibly that's the best hack I've seen yet on CZcams. You look fab
Beautiful 😍😍😍 This is better than any fashion designers creation !
ORLY!! You nailed it brilliantly, “yeah man this is working” 💯🤣! What’s not to love?? I watched it twice just for the pure entertainment!❤️
Oh and the back is brilliant too IMHO.
haha you're the best!
You are so talented!
I love to see a rainbow version of this on white or black top!
You are so very talented. This project is fabulous. Rock on girl.
U R A BEAUTIFUL FASHION DESIGNING MODEL🤩 I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH FROM U❤️ THANK U
My pleasure 😊
This is so so pretty!!!!!!!! I totally want to try this, but I have so many other things on my plate. I love how that horsehair adds so much flair and beauty. I might just have to make a gored skirt in general. Beautiful.
Please consider doing an upcycle top with an empire waist and loose elbow length sleeves.
Wow, wow, wow....I am in love with this look🥰. I just donated all my dress shirts and mt husband passed on some of his dress shirts to me to play with. Now I know exactly what I'm doing with at least two of them!! And I have a way to show off my me made bras!!! I can't wait to get started.....thanks Orly😘!!!
Cool! Did you learn the me-made bras from a you tube?
@@penelopefp no, I'm actually a member of a Sewist group and the instructors are teaching us how to make bras & panties😊
@@melibow2003 there is a belly dancer that shows how to make bras you can wear while performing. I don't belly dance, but I love to watch her designs. Panties I would try. Bras... that's scary!!!
@@penelopefp i think I know who you're talking about- is her name Sparkly Belly or something like that? If so....I watch her videos too!
@@melibow2003 YES!!!! I love it! I love "small world" stories like that. But I've not seen her make the full on bra. She decorates a base. Still, cool huh?
Did you see my question about putting cotton panels in a rayon shirt? It's a shirt they gave us at work, polo style, polyester. I got mine xL so I could hack it. Your opinion?
Super! I have several Ralph Lauren dresses and skirts like this. Love them. I absolutely want to try this!
If only I could sew ! This came out amazing ! I want something like this !
Hi Orly, I absolutely love ❤️ your channel, I have watch every single one of your videos & have tried many of your DIY’S, l ❤️ how creative you are, & how easy your DIY’S are, I also shop in valley value & have found many treasures there for your DIY’S, I shop @ the one on Victory, but I found out they also have a store in Simi Valley. Keep doing the good works that u do 💕💕💕
Stunning! A perfect dress for middle seasons XD
Wow! This looked complicated but it turned out so fabulous especially since you chose to do all white.
Always amazed by your creativity!!!
Your horsehair version of this style looks better than the other designer’s version 👍🏻
Thank you!! I'm really into the horse Hair too!
great tutorial! also jealous of the machine. had that model for 23 years!
Late to comment, but this dress is soooo cute and the work was well worth the result. My favorite part?? The shoe choice for the styling. You nailed the look with those heels!! 💜💜💜
Deine Erklärungen sind so Super, jetzt will ich auch mal Probieren, Danke Shani
Omg love this 😍Happy Friday Orly ❤️
Can you make the embroidered floral dress that Taylor Swift wore to the Grammys? I saw some fabric at Joann the other day that reminded me of it and I was like "I need Orly to show me how to make it!" lol.
omg I Love that Dress!!
I don't own a sewing machine and probably don't even know how to sew a handkerchief or have any interest in learning and yet I watch all your videos with intense concentration... I don't know why :D
Because it's not as hard as we make it out to be. Find a used machine, take it in for a tune up and go. Learn on youtube. You'll make stuff.
That's great! She's an artist, for sure.
Gorgeous.. this would also make a really cute matching Mammy and Daughter outfit! 😍
This is beautiful! Gonna try this for summer!! Orly...You Rock! 🤩
for any kind of fabric trimming..pinking shears are great.....they reduce/stop fabric fraying plus they leave a cute design element.....:). fabulous dress....
I knew the shirt would be a cute dress, Yay! And your tips and tricks are GENIUS, Orly!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
You are so welcome!
U worked so hard girl.....it's so beautiful 👗
I think I'll try this with my black shirt dress I can't wear anymore due to Covid weight gain... a little extra hip room!!
Love it! It looks great but not beginner friendly. Love the colored one. ❤👍🏾
Oh my god, unreal as always!!!😍😍😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Whoa! Babe that's gorgeous! If I could pull that off I'd rock that ish lol you did it again!🎉🎊
Very cute and chic at the same time!
Oh my.. this is delightful.. You are a fabulous teacher.. just loving this hack.. You’ve created another masterpiece.. I truly wish I had the sewing skills.. One day I will .. Thank you.. You are inspirational.. Have a wonderful day! Oh my in my mind this is on the runway!!! you wear it well❤️
Just phenomenal. What talent! Love this channel.
Orlllly!!! Again, again and again.
I must DM you on this dress I’m making my granddaughter for Easter. It’s from the Spring/Summer Trend fashion show. Instead of the gored bottom. I’m doing a cupcake bottom using fishing wire. Give me a few days to do it. I’m in a time crunch, because I’m leaving for Tennessee soon, and in the middle of making 8 bouquets, 7 boutonnieres and 3 flower girl baskets for a wedding. Hoping I can get to it, and hoping it turns out fine. Never done anything like this before. I failed in love with you and your work, since you made the zip away skirt. Then I found you on Home&Family. Love the show. Always a fan❤️.
omg this is amazing!! please keep me posted!
I think it might be a fabric saver if you cut the skirt to the shortest length of the shirt or add to the shorter parts first, you would have a seam line but it would match the other strips so look more like a detail than an accidental seam. Essentially what you did was quarter circles to attach to each slit (for those who prefer to draw up a pattern) if you use two slits lengths, you only need two pattern pieces, if you make more slits, at a three different lengths, it’s three quarter circles.
I love the way this way of doing it would also allow for you to have the skirt section a completely different colour. Maybe light denim on top and floral on the bottom, monochromatic (white top, black skirt).
This is really versatile! 💖💖💖
Thanks for the inspiration and your method tute! 👍
Cute, flirty and my favorite style of dress...the shirt dress. Total lifesaver for anyone, who isn't blessed with a perfect figure 😉.
Plus, men's shirts are always such nice quality! I'm in!
Only saw today! My for me was Friday every day 😍😍😍
I will be making this ASAP!!! My grandpa passed away last year and I have a few of his dress shirts. He was a big tall man so it's a lot of fabric. I will have to take the top in but the skirt will be super full!! I kept the shirts to do something like this but didn't know exactly what. Thanks so much Orly!!! 🖤
oh I hope you'll share the finished project with me!? I'm sorry for your loss :( But this will be a beautifully fashionable way to remember him
Wow, wow 😮. This style of skirt is one of my favourites to wear and Orly you killed it.. I'm definitely getting this done to one of my floaty dresses. I love, love this Orly, you can do no wrong for me... Each week I think, what will you bring to us next. It's a pleasure to be able to watch your DIY projects, you amaze me every week. This space need your type of work, keep doing what you do, it's appreciated...👌🌺😘🤗🙏
thank you so much Carla!
Love! Love! Love! Thank you for the inspiration. I hope you decide to make a rainbow version. That will be awesome looking.
I just wanted to say thank you 🙏🏼. Every week I look forward to a few CZcams creators episodes and yours is definitely at the top of my list. I am so inspired by your work. Thank you for being an inspiration to me each and every week.
Thank you for watching Jenni!
I'm same. Only 2 channels I have notifications for. I've a few projects cued from Orly and I'm not a clothes person.
Great idea! I'm still learning to sew. This will be great for when I'm better using my machine. Thanks Orly
Seriously Orly you just keep out doing yourself...this is stunning xPx
thank you so much!
I've had 2 striped men's shirts in the exact same fabric and color that I've been wondering what to do with. This will be perfect!
I enjoyed the fashion show lol. Awesome as always Orly ❤️
A perfect dress for spring, great diy Orly, you look fabulous as always 🤍
I am a big fan of horsehair !!! 💖
This is really awesome!!! This is a must try for me. Thanks for all the inspiration. Have a great day!!
Wow. I love this upcycle idea! The shirt fabric is completely transformed. So cute.
Looks so cool!!
How do you do those things???! Damn!
I'll say it again...
You are an inspiration !!!
I have been asking my hubby for his shirts, and yesterday he just cleaned out his closet and gave me all his dress shirts. I'm planning on making a different shirt dress. Now I can't wait to complete it, this dress is awesome!!
Love that!
This is so stinking adorable! 🥰
Ok Love your earrings, love your lip color💋, love your sweater!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE this idea, it is so so cute!! Would love to see the rainbow colors you were going to do.
Aaaaaand how is your finger today 😬 ouch girl!!! 🙏💟💟🌞❤
omg thank you for asking!! I cant believe I did that!! I'm all good now though
That's genius! I'm totally doing this, just have to figure how to do longer skirt (can't wear minis anymore, alas) But other then that - heaven! The horsehair is sooo cute!
I was thinking that too. But I think that you need to buy a very large shirt. You need to take it in on the side but then you have extra length.
@@blondedarkness6258 I thought about cutting a rectangle from the same fabric as the godets, sewing the button placket from the second shirt on that - that way the length of the shirt woul be my skirt length basically - and then proceed as Orly does here. Will see if that works..
@@veronikavolhejnova5036 @BlondeDarkness I think I am going to try it out on a dress that has just been sitting in my closet. It's long enough to feel comfortable, but I feel it may be too thin to wear by itself anymore. It's black, so I think I am going to try to add color??!!
@@TheDreavill That would be cool to!! I have done godets while I was working on my medieval and viking dresses and I always wondered if they did this too. Like the basic dress is one colour and the godets a different.
@@blondedarkness6258 I did it! instagram.com/stories/dreavill/2562271689220252916?igshid=1nm7eqhe3up08
I might have to make that rainbow one 👀👀
That's simply STUNNING. Love how you accomplished your gore pieces. Well done. Blessed weekend to you Orly.
Hi Orly....I usually don't comment but this is so stunning....had to send a shout out man.
This is beautiful .. Your tutorial is so good ... You sharing your thoughts & hit and misses are so helpful and thought provoking . You are quite the little creator, teacher, lovely model and one of my all round favorites ... Just Love You ❣
