50-50 po doc hahahah because there are a loot of scholarships offered if we're talking about tuition and there are med schools as well with cheap tuitions (State Universities ) but, the lifestyle and expenses ++ if you're not from the area so rent, food, allowance etc hmmm I think it's really not for everyone 😒 but if you really want it then there will always be a wayy. hehehe
After graduation, I immediately became the breadwinner of my family. My parents broke up years ago, without support from my father. My mother lost her job, and finds it hard to get another one because of age discrimination and lay-offs due to the pandemic. My brother's been stuck in 1st year college. I got PR 94 when I was working in 2017... Took another shot this year because it expired. Even if I had gotten PR 98, or even if I obtain a scholarship, how can I feed my family if I start studying? How can I feed myself while studying? People who say, "Kung gusto may paraan" never been the only bread winner in their family. Yes, may paraan, but it will take several years from now. Had a friend studying in medschool telling me, "Kailan ka mag medschool? Nakaipon na ba?" It has been 4 years since undergrad, and if I could, I would've already. If they could fend for themselves, I could. But I cannot just leave them on their own. I hope people think first before speaking. We don't know what other people are going through, and we don't know what circumstances led to a certain situation.
If ang goal mo ay lagyan ng "Dr." yung name mo then pwede ka naman magDentistry dahil pwede mo ipagsabay ang pagtaTrabaho and here's another fact: ang first two years ng Dentistry ay parehas ng common health subjects with Podiatric Med/Podiatry👣 so after you graduate sa Dentistry, if di mo feel na gumawa ng dental stuffs, pwede kang magChange ng field to Podiatric Med School(tutal marami ang may diabetic foot, fractured foot, etc...) kaya in-demand yan dito. Pero ang pinakamurang Podiatric Med School ay sa Pakistan (approx 30,000 peso per sem) at sureness na ma-keCredit yung first two years health subjects na taken from dental med🇵🇭, yung major subjects na lang ang tatapusin mo sa abroad=2½ years remaining. Wag ka lang sa Caucasian countries like UK, USA, Australia, and NZ dahil di talaga affordable ang Podiatry doon(halos 1M per year). Since kulang ang Podiatric Doctors pero high demand, if magtatrabaho ka sa Arab countries after earing Podiatry degree then recognized agad ikaw as doctor kasi walang Podiatry schools sa countries like UAE , Kuwait, Qatar, etc(puro foreign graduates ang podiatrist doon). Yung aunt kong dentista noong nagKuwait sya, di kinilala ang Dentistry degree nya dahil maraming dentistry school doon(kaya Dental Assistant ang trabaho nya) pero if she went there with Podiatry degree automatic na makakakuha sya ng trabaho bilang Podiatric doctor

I enjoyed this episode so much! 💙 as someone who is thinking of entering medschool, the financial aspect is what's holding me back to pursue it despite the scholarships available or there are state universities or medschools outside metro manila. i personally agree with Doc Jeremy's thoughts, medschool is a privelege (or education in general). and i also think that the expenses can add to the pressure to do well bcos you're supposed to help the family na but pinagaaral ka pa rin nila. subjectively, it's a yes for me but it really depends on the situation and determination of an individual to enter and finish medschool. 😊

Not necessarily for the rich because I didn't come from a rich family. It is also for the hardworking ones, but with our current situation, I think it is for those who have the financial means (which is sad). With the recently passed Doktor para sa Bayan Act, everyone who aspires to be a doctor should be able to go on and pursue medical studies.

Hope you consider making a RealTok episode for medschool students na sinasabay side hustles para somehow masuportahan nila sarili nila while studying and from different years. I do freelance at the moment and I'm worried if this would make a big impact while studying.

I think this is not unique to Ph settings. Even in other country such as US and UK. there’s a notion that it is expensive to become a doctor. But it is not necessarily for the rich or upper class only. Some people were able to attend med school because of their academic excellence. Getting scholarship grants. There are also some organization or people that sponsors students where they pay everything even monthly allowance in exchange of service later on after they graduated.
The notion that med school is really for the rich is one of the arguments used by those who criticized UP College of Med for not being fair in their acceptance of med students. Most of the comments we hear from people is that majority of med students in UPCM came from a well-off family (middle-upper income bracket) depriving those from the lower class a chance for them to enter med schools inspite of having exemplary academic records.

Once nag-avail ka nyan, di ka makakapagtravel outside the country. Yung teacher ko kasi DOST scholar then after nya makapasa as Teacher, sinubukan nya mag-apply abroad pero nang nasa airport na sya, hinarang sya ng immigration kasi kailangan nya daw i-render yung government service na kasunduan dahil scholar sya. Di sya allowed makalabas until na-render nya yung required years of work sa government.
