    Shane Pinto is making a solid case to put Staios in a position to buyout Josh Norris. I know its a long buyout, but it's 1.4M per year. You buyout Korpi aswell, and Staios saves $10M in cap space, at the cost of $2.7M per, which basically the rise in the cap for this season alone. As I said, they are long buyouts, but they arent movable to any team, and Staios knows what he needs to do, he needs the cap room to do it, and Im sorry but as good as Norris can be, he has a shoulder made of glass, he wasnt good this season, and no one will chew on his contract, especially considering how much of his developmental time has been wasted on the shoulder injuries. I hate saying it, but he is a one-hit wonder, and Staios cant be leaving $8M in complete limbo whether or not its going to affect the cap, or get bottled in LTIR. You cant make any moves with that much money in complete limbo, and with Pinto showing he can play in the top 6, Norris is completely expendable and vulnerable to a buyout. Korpisalo, we can definitely say he has been no where near close to his contract, and a complete bust. Im not saying buyout Korpisalo just yet, but I am saying if Staios can get a goaltender like Gibson or Ullmark, then ya Im buying out Korpisalo too. You guys are saying Pinto's value might be near the $5M mark. You also have Sanderson making an extra $7.2M next season, so thats $11M tied up in new contract for who you already have, and if you get Gibson or Ullmark, you looking near $15M-$16M. Trading all the loose ends, including Chychrun, and letting the weak pieces walk, AND buying out both Norris and Korpisalo, leaves you with around $18M, not including the $5M in dead cap money off the books, and Tarasenko off the books aswell, so Staios will have around $28M in cap space, and with adding a Gibson or Ullmark, you only have $12M in cap space left to make the necessary fixes to re-boot the re-tool(I think the math is correct, can correct me if Im wrong) and he will need that cap money. I dont see any route Staios can go that doesn't involve buying out Korpisalo and Norris.

      Well I'm not sure that I agree with buying out Josh Norris, but if you are going to do it it needs to be this summer. He'll be 25 which is the last year to get a player at the 1/3 buyout rate rather than the 2/3.
      That being said I think you could find a taker for Norris's contract, especially if you're willing to retain up to 1.4 million. I don't think you get anything in terms of assets coming back, but I don't think you need to buy him out.
      For Korpi I think you give him another year and move on from Forsberg instead.

    • @chrisfortin984
      @chrisfortin984 Před měsícem

      @@wesgreig271 Like you said, which is another huge factor in Josh Norris. Its the last year you can buy him out at 1/3 buyout rate. I didnt even mention that, so ya this summer it has to happen.
      As far as trying to find a taker for Norris' contract, ya you wont get anything back. I think its the complete opposite. I think you will have to give up quite the pretty penny to take that much term, and the cap hit. For a team that really needs to keep their draft picks and prospect pool, cause of how depleted it is, I just don't think it's worth it. For a penalty is 1.4M per, i think its best to rip the bandaid off, because once we get to 2/3 the buyout rate, it's not worth buying him out at all. Staios needs to take this opportunity and dump the contract to be able to do the changes he needs to do.
      AS far as Korpi, I agree, you move on from Forsberg. Hes one of the obvious trades they need to make. I mentioned before, if Korpisalo had middle of the pack stats, then yes I would agree, but the absolute worst goalie in the league, Im not taking any chances on wasting years of the core on a hope. Not to mention keeping Koprisalo means you are dropping on getting solid starters in Ullmark, or Gibson, for a hope. We also dont know the chemistry off-ice with Korpisalo and the team. I keep looking to LA. Korpi played well there, yet the team still let him walk. Too many factors that have opinion against keeping Korpisalo.
      In the end, if your opinion is keeping both guys, you are trading off assets and bringing in league minimum guys just to fill your roster spots, so either staying the same with the team, or even downgrading it, which leads to wasting years off the core. Too many holes to be filled that need cap space, and Staios cant just hide behind the cap theory, when he can free up the room he needs without hurting the prospect pool or the draft capital as much, but take the buyout penalties and free the room.

    I think the sample size is still small enough that you can get Pinto at under 5 million for several years. I see his contact being something like 3*3 or 5*5. If they go 8 years then he is definitely coming in over 5 million, but i don't think they should add another 8 year contract. Limits flexibility too much

    @edpottinger849 Před měsícem

    I still don't agree with keeping Norris,but,at all costs,sign Pinto.Pinto is a very good second line centerman,play him top six.You have to find a way to move the Norris contract and,most likely,the Chabot contract.You need a good top pairing right shot like Weegar in Calgary,like Hronek in Vancouver,like Rasmus Anderson in Calgary and others.The goalie situation can be left alone until the defence and top line center position is filled.

      With Pinto, they gonna go the full 8 year, and they should. Pinto will be 24 by November. Im not setting up to have his contract expire by the time he's 29 or 30. No way. 32 is a far better number to keep his cap hit stable come renewal. Pinto is playing like his shoulder is completely recovered, so I think its safe to go full 8. I would try my very best to go 8X5. I think he's Batherson money, and if they can sign him at $5M per, its a contract that has a lot of value cause the term wont matter, its a very affordable contract for a top 6 that can fetch you a really good haul if a trade comes into play down the road.

    Bridge him- worst case scenario he plays amazing and he gets paid. That’s a pretty good scenario because they’ll know they have a player. Unless his number long term is reasonable make him do it again. He’s a better hockey player than stuzle, I like pinto greig stuzle moving forward though

    • @chrisfortin984
      @chrisfortin984 Před měsícem

      Good luck with that. There is absolutely no way possible he will be bridged, and if he does, he can just hold-out, and with Pinto, he's far too valuable to have him hold out because you went dirty cheap on a top 6 player, and you waste even more developmental time, when he has already scampered a year and a half already in his developmental years. He cant waste anymore time cause management wants to be cheap. You only bridge contracts that you arent sure of the player staying, or lived up to the hype. Pinto has come as advertised, and then some, and is a staple. You dont bridge that. On top of that, he's due for a break-out year next season. This is the best time to go long term on him, cause he will explode next season. Hes gonna get you 60pts at least!! Look at him now. 31GP, 8G 17A 25PTS and a +11...playing on the third line with no power play time, and you think thats only worth a bridge? He's 8X5 money..no doubt at all.

      @@chrisfortin984 he’s played the first line since he’s been back with the two best wingers on the team. If he would sign 8x5 the franchise should do that all day long. He’s one of the best and most valuable assets they have. If the cap hit is good sign him long term but I can’t see him settling at 5M AAV, hopefully he does obviously

    • @chrisfortin984
      @chrisfortin984 Před měsícem

      @carbb5760 Why can't you see him settle on 8X5? He's lost a year and a half of development time due to the shoulder injury and the suspension. Staios will have a strong case to keep him long term at 5M per, and it's a blessing for Pinto cause he was penciled at the start of the year to 3.5M to be a good contract. I'm not putting him higher than that, cause like I said in the last off-season. I said they should trade Norris at that time while he still had good value, and his stock would drop like a rock if he re-injures the shoulder. Long and behold, look where the value of Norris is. Pinto's contract needs to stay cap friendly so Pinto maintains great value. If I was GM, it would be 8X5 on a low-high contract with his final year paying him 6.5M or 7M. This way when it comes to a renewal, he can't be offered less than 7M. That's how I would have his contract written up on a 5M AAV. If Pinto gets into shoulder issues like Norris is, it's not 8M AAV in pure limbo. It's only 5M.
