I've being looking for this song for twelve years. After we moved to a new city, this song was playing on the way school. I've lost my home, friends and most everyone I knew. So us and mom had to start all over from scape, as the old I had to be a shoulder fo my mom to lay in. Hear this song for those minutes told my thirteen years old self it was okay to cry for at those few minutes. It was alright to feel sad, for a least a little. By the time I try looking for the song I couldn't remember the lyrics. I can't believe I finally found it.
along with "tiny vessels," this song does a bang up job of capturing the queasy self disgust that comes not just from knowing that you're lying to another about how you feel, but to yourself about what you want and don't want. i suppose that's a common enough thing--especially when you're young and haven't fucked up enough to know better--but gibbard's ability to render the familiar ickiness of emotional self-betrayal is both awesome and disturbing.
+Marisol Cortez Definitely. But it's also kind of happy, right? Maybe perfection does not exist, or only exists in fleeting moments. Maybe allowing imperfection, settling, is necessary to lasting connection.
+Marisol Cortez yes! so YES! in my old age i totes read the same into it. It's an awful surrender when you give into "Settling" and the way he says it, hits home. "IF I only thought of something charming to say" lol. but then again in old age you realize there's a difference between "Settling" and like a house "Settling" being comfy with you are with and realizing getting old isnt too bad. idk but it's an awesome song!
death cab is amazing in the fact that you either love or hate their songs, but all the ones you hate eventually grow on you and you just love them all.
I feel bad for guys, us ladies can be a tough crowd (vice versa too but guys have more pressure) - but if she really feels ya she wont mind mistakes and will have patience, we call it hope ✌ 10yrs later hopefully you found a charming one lol
After feeling like I screwed up a date recently, this song hits hard. Not all hope is lost, but damn that date made me realize how awkward I am. Here's hoping she'll be up to give me another chance. Wish me luck, fellas. Edit: unfortunately, doesn't look like she's up to give me another chance. Which I was kinda expecting. Maybe one day I'll find someone, but today wasn't that day. Sucks.
Suzanne Bolin it was a game sort of like guitar hero. You had to tap dots at exactly the right time on the bottom to win. I don't really remember the point TBH it's been forever
Utterly amazing when they played this sound at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 29th 2023! Everyone singing song, the crowd seeming to bounce up and down, what a gig! Always a great band to see live if you get the chance!
@@starmax1000 there's a guitar hero clone on the app store that's decent. Its kinda funny too as all of the songs have the names changed just slightly to avoid CC. so Elevator to Paradise for stairway to heaven, Six Nation Army, etc.
Summer: This is a nightmare. I'm sweating to death, driving ten miles an hour on, like, a rickshaw, listening to this... music. Seth: Hey, do not insult Death Cab. Summer: It's like one guitar and a whole lot of complaining.
I've got a hunger twisting my stomach into knots; that my tongue is tied off My brain's repeating if you've got an impulse, let it out! But they never make it past my mouth This is the sound of settling This is the sound of settling Our youth is fleeting, old age is just around the bend and I can't wait to go gray And I'll sit and wonder of every love that could have been If I'd only thought of something charming to say This is the sound of settling This is the sound of settling I've got a hunger twisting my stomach into knots
Man, my kids LOVE that video. They could watch it all day (which is fine with me because this is like my favorite song of all time). My one-year-old knows about 5 words but she'll go around the house singing "ba baa, ba baa"... it's pretty awesome.
for those of you who dont care where people found this song and are just happy that people are listening to this great music like this. i dont care if you found this song under tap tap im just glad you found it in the first place
1000th comment lets gooo. I met someone who I think could be the love of my life two days ago and now Death Cab doesn't feel like a breakup band anymore, it feels like a band to live life to.
Yes but they didn't show me this band but the oc the main character had such an amazing taste in music tho. I remember him liking the strokes and this band
Good, clean, family friendly music videos like this are a rarity in today's world. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Death Cab. You are artists, truly.
I'm gonna dance with my kids to this if I ever have any. I don't know maybe it could make them see that life is short also because this is a great jam.
Love Death Cab for Cutie. This one's a very brief song, yet so powerful. The accompanying video seems misplaced at first, but I'm a fan of the contrast. They complement each other in a strange, subtle manner.

I heard this too, and frequently. 2009-10, finishing a big addition I built on our house, myself, late nights doing carpentry and flooring and paint. XM radio on Ethel. When my to-be-born twin second and third kids were just unimaginable and a few years in the future. Wow. Now I’m almost 45 and life just chuggs along.
28 years now. I was 16-21 when this song meant the world to me. Even though i never considered myself handsome. apparently i am to some gals. I guess having a beard before it was cool helps. But i advise those young fellows with pure hearts. Go ahead and make a move. Dont forget gals are also made of spice. I too like tesla and 40 year old virgin put them on a pedestal
At first I was iffy about this video, but as soon as I watched it all the way through and saw all the hillarious bits in it, I loved it. I love the gingerbread man tackling the drummer at 1:56!

Forever thankful to Seth Cohen for Introducing me to Death Cab ! 😄

For better or worse, this song has had the biggest influence in my life over the past 15 years.

Tap-Tap Revenge, anyone?
Easily one of the best 5 artists from the past 10 years. Love Death Cab!
Yes, 1 is coldplay then dcfc is second
The best artist from the past 36 years 😁
this is the sound of celery
Great, now that's the only thing I'll hear when the chorus comes on xD
That's funny but irritating >.
This fucked me up.
Lmao
The sound of celery? Tolerable. The taste? Please, no.
Just suddenly popped into my mind again after so many many years. 😂❤️
I often feel lonely, and this song always helps. It makes me forget about how little people I actually have in my life.
After 14years finally I found it 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 I miss tap tap revenge with a lot of memories
All these years later and I'm still not sure how 'Baba' is the sound of settling.
Grant Robertson you'll know when it happens,oh,you'll know then...
i think its supposed to be a heart beat
It's Babar
Baba is the sound of celery
Maybe a babie's cry?

Watching this episode as we speak 😍
Spade Krauss I'm watching the episode as I'm writing this. Literally he's singing this is the sound of settling right now. Lol
Woah feel old now. Can't believe its already more than a decade when I first heard this song.
Clearly, they had WAY too much fun on this.

The interlude has a distinct Motion City Soundtrack feel! Love it.

I'm an indie rock fan and i can say that this song is the best.
I remember when they used to play this video on Fuse, back when that station played good music. I love this song.
