    Jordan has an unnatural talent to download opponents and react before they even process what’s happening.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Před 11 měsíci +39

      Thanks man! I feel like it's one of my best attributes as a grappler. I always try to to attack on their weaknesses rather than impose my strengths. Which has led to being comfortable everywhere and having a wide repertoire to teach to everyone :)

    • @reggieskillman1469
      @reggieskillman1469 Před 11 měsíci +3

      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu are you gonna demo how to do that lmao. I'm trying to figure out what my coaches weaknesses are

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Před 11 měsíci +31

      It's a tough thing to teach. The reason I've got good at it I think is a couple reasons.
      1. Anytime something goes wrong for me, I always try to figure out why and adapt for next time. It's difficult to catch me twice. Although I do just fine against people the first roll, always the second roll is more dominate as I can so quickly figure them out and adapt to anything that went wrong in the first roll.
      2. I've always gone through periods of time where I specialize in one area, and then move on to another once I feel I've mastered it. Meanwhile many stick to specializing in one area, and/or stick to their strengths. Leg locks are a good example. I went through probably 4-5 months as a brown belt where all I did was leg locks then moved on to something else. But many nowadays many will specialize in leg locks, and just stick with that.
      3. I'm lucky to have a pretty "sensitive" body in the sense that I can feel the smallest of movements and predict what my opponent is trying to do. This has also come from grappling so long. But even before grappling when I played soccer I could always keep the ball at my feet very well because I could feel so well where it was with my feet. Many athletic skills like this aren't talked about or thought of when talking about athleticism but to me it's on my best attributes as an athlete.
      Just my interpretation of how I've developed this skill :)

    • @juliushoward9606
      @juliushoward9606 Před 11 měsíci

      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu that third reason is actually pretty specific and unique. When did you realize you had that sensitivity?

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Před 11 měsíci +15

      @@juliushoward9606 A long time ago. When I played soccer people used to always tell me my feet were like magnets. It was always really difficult for them to take away the ball because I could just feel so well where the ball was with my feet. Which is something I still hear often in grappling. That my feet are like hands.
      This may also sound weird but I've heard theres a correlation between being ticklish and having a sensitive body/skin. And I am very ticklish as are all my kids. I tickle them all the time because 1, I enjoy it, and 2, I view it as training their sensitivity.
      Jeff mentioned in the MMA session on his channel that my timing and sensitivity are next level. Which I really appreciated him noticing, and saying. I also think it's why I have the style that I have. I rarely hold people down and smash, instead I transition based off how they react and have the sensitivity to react quicker than they can execute.

  • @mouthguardcomic
    @mouthguardcomic Před 11 měsíci +16

    Jeff is a high level Brown Belt, but this roll shows that capitalizing on initial mistakes (e.g., head placement) that most people let go allows you to quickly sub people. This prevents them from using the slick portions of their games whether it's scrambling, leg locks, etc.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Před 11 měsíci +8

      Exactly. Often good grapplers look worse than they are against me because I capitalize so much on the smallest mistakes then it's all down hill from there. The smallest of mistakes can make such a huge difference and people get away with them in training against the average guy but against a good black belt you can't make those mistakes.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Před 11 měsíci +4

      Thanks man! My wrestling lingo may be incorrect but to me a mat return is more so when you have a body lock on your opponent in turtle, and they stand up, and you return them to the mat. So in that case an actual suplex could be considered a mat return. But again, don't trust my wrestling lingo lol. I only did pure wrestling for 9 months when I was a white belt. Since then I've just picked up wrestling through training, learning online, and trial and error :)

      So there is no cap ?
      I just wanted to evaluate how much time you have per person.
      If there are a lot of people chances are lower to get specific instruction and time from you or the others :)
      So for example 1000 people would mean general classes without 1 on 1 specific improvement most likely.

      @@tornjak096 Exactly. Imo every grappler should be able to use their grappling within a fight even if they never plan to fight. They should understand how to get up, how to control their opponents arms to prevent strikes, and understand positions to avoid. I like BJJ for the sport aspect don't get me wrong, but being a complete grappler and having these skills will make their "sport" grappling even better.

    Jordan, have you played any attention to the "Ecological" approach to Jiu jitsu? If so, what do you think about it? Seems like your theory course lines up with what the "games" from the ecological approach are designed to teach.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Před 11 měsíci +3

      Ya I'm familiar with it and quite like it. It's all very similar in the sense that what the theory course teaches and the ecological approach both provide simple and straight forward objectives. In the majority of cases where people go wrong with their technique isn't executing it with the wrong grips, but not prioritizing the important concepts behind the techniques. For example I taught a closed guard pass in one of my youtube shorts and some said "they'll just be able to triangle you." But what needs to be prioritized in the pass, and pretty much anywhere in BJJ, is to control the hips. You can't be triangles if you prioritize pinning the hips. So some might fail the technique and think it doesn't work, but in reality the issue isn't doing the technique wrong perse , but not prioritizing whats most important. Techniques are just grip sequences and they're important. But if you grip correctly, and ignore simple objectives, then it's not going to work out. So in short I really like the ecological approach because it teaches that, and it's very much what I teach, but with a slightly different approach.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Před 11 měsíci

      I could be completely wrong in my wrestling lingo but to me a mat return is having someone on the ground in the body lock, and when they stand up taking them back down. But again I could be wrong as I have very minimal pure wrestling experience.
