My favorite videos consists of smaller boats slapping the waves of the inlet then seeing the bigger boats just cruise on through like it was a lake. Great contrast.
@@augustreil The Coast Guard is a branch of the USA military that patrols mostly the coastal waters of USA. Part of their duties is similar to a police officer. What I meant by "Coast Guard violation" was a federal (or maybe a state law) which regulates watercraft usage. Such laws might include a prohibition against reckless operation by operating too close to another boat and causing a wake which is hazardous to other boats.

My mom and I came from Brooklyn New York to Miami Beach in the mid 70s and I learned how to swim off the rocks on houlover inlet. As a young boy whose mother worked at the Fontainebleau and the konover, I had free roam in the place and experience that I wouldn't trade for all the money in the world.
Me and my young boys are fantastic swimmers. However, if they want on the boat outside of no wake and they're under 100 pounds they're wearing a pfd. It's not worth losing your life over.
I'm in MA, grew up boating on the ocean. Dad was a serious captain, no fairweather boating for us. I'm older now and finally have a boat; 15' Boston Whaler. I hate the cold, despise winter. I was diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder just this past December. That made a lot of sense, but was exacerbated by having to put the boat away for the season. Our season here is just too short. I found your channel a few months ago and found that watching your videos of boats in the sun in warm waters made me feel so much better! This channel got me out of my funk and I'm truly grateful for that. Stay safe and healthy. 😊
Wow 😮 That’s amazing no license required, with seriously expensive craft etc,a recipe “call the coastguard “ Definitely getting a boat masters course under your belt a must✅
Thanks for taking time to explain why Haulover Inlet conditions change so much. Your videos are very addictive and when you mentioned a fellow named Alex who also had some videos that were similar to yours but more intense I knew I had to find him. Absolutely amazing footage from Alex.
I wanted to thank you for this video. I signed up for the Coast Guard class. Not planning on buying a boat, but watching these videos made me realize I should know if I go out on a friend's boat. I don't need the class to get a boat due to age, but why not take a weekend to learn. Can't wait for the class.
This is so weird, in my country no one can take a boat out, without taking a rigorous instruction course and passing a serious exam both theoretical and practical by the coast guard. But I am guessing when people in Miami mess up and need rescuing, they pick up the tab too, which is not the case here.
Great video finally we have a face to a voice. Just watching the videos one learns a lot about the tides and the way to negotiate them. Keep it up it is a joy watching them.
Thank your for the videos. As a boater who goes in and out of Haulover Inlet regularly, here's my 2 cents: 1. You try to avoid the middle of the inlet because that is where the tide is strongest, and the water roughest. 2. When the winds are out of the North, the North jetty provides shelter. Also, there are lots of anglers on the South jetty with lines in the water that can foul a prop. I hug the South jetty if I am going to fish South, and when no one is fishing off the jetty. 3. The land where the inlet is located is most likely named for Gardiner Baker who received a land grant from the Spanish King in 1804. The inlet was carved in 1925 to connect Biscayne Bay with the Atlantic Ocean. 4. There are 4 inlets in "South" FL. Hillsboro in Pompano (a small inlet with a low draw bridge), Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Haulover and Gov't Cut in Miami. The distance in time between Gov't Cut to Haulover is 45 min - 1 hr. Haulover to Port Everglades takes 1+ hr. If you live or your boat is N of I-195 (or Venetian Isles if you just missed the draw bridge), and S of Hollywood, you would use Haulover. That is why it's so busy. Also, within a few miles of the inlet are many reefs and wrecks that are great for fishing. 5. The "Haulover Sand Bar" is the biggest party sand bar in S. Fl, period.
And thank you, in turn for giving us, the viewers, joy. Life is disgusting enough as it is, so what we see through your videos helps some of us cope a bit better.
I always scan your channel when we go out of Haulover to see if you've caught us! I used your channel as 'research' when I bought my new boat this year. Keep up the good work!
It actually makes sense to use it for research. Because you're actually seeing the bot's real performance in real conditions driven by real people. Not the edited version where the boats are driven by professional captains in perfect conditions and on edited videos. Hope to see more of the Aquila, Sunreef, Leopard and Silent Yacht catamarans.
One more little twist to why Haulover is so rough at times, especially at mid outgoing tide, along the north seawall of the inlet there is a sharp, approximately 40degree angle about halfway between the bridge and the end of the inlet. When the tide is heading out, because of the jog the current has to make to the right, it can cause all kinds of surface up-welling that if it catches an incoming swell the right way can catch you off guard, plus the eddy currents that occur from that sudden change of direction to the current can cause a slow moving boat to all of sudden point southeast when the skipper isn't expecting it. So just one more thing to add to the fun of navigating this inlet.
Thank you! It was fun to find out abt this inlet! I live on a Caribbean island and have done boating with my dad over the years so I know big waves also.
Grew up in Miami, went out of Haulover many times, seen alot of boats go under. Good fishing when you get outside the pass, 45min to 1hr , Bahamas fishing. But seen alot of people who should not have trade to take their 14ft Duck boat out the Pass. Stay safe out there Brother.

I took the Power Squadron course 30 years ago. Anyway, as far as rough goes, we have some large rivers on the Great Lakes and when the river is flowing hard and the wind is pushing the water in, it gets real nasty. Likely worse than a 'rough' day there. The wave period is the thing. They get to be really close to the length of most boats and cause a lot of people to get really wet and even capsize unless you know how to drive over them.

Hello from the other side of the world! As I´m a boat enthusiastic, there was NO chance to see not a clip of this inlet and the crazy/cool boats passing it. But to be honest, till now I did not understand why this inlet is that special. Looking at Google Maps while you talked opend my eyes, the area behind the inlet is BIG (thougt its only a habour, haha). Okay, maybe other inlets have bigger waves, but Haulover got bigger, faster and cooler boats. This would be really a nice place to hang out. THX for the explanation!
WOW! That insane! Lol. If I had not seen the video of the Haulover Inlet in Miami and heard your personal testimony, I never would have known. I am a Native Southeast Floridian, Jupiter was my first home, went to same Private Pre-School & Kindergarden, public school 1st& 2nd grade in Palm Beach County Schools before we moved to Martin County. I lived between Jupiter & Stuart. Summers & every other weekend in Jupiter with my Dads side but for school, I went through Martin County. I never knew there was any Surf in Miami-Dade until 6 years ago when your surfers were in my back yard on Hutchinson Island. It was a beautiful day, you were getting a system, and your Surfers were taking full advantage & creating the best photos I had ever took. I had to stop because it was a beautiful site. There were 7-10 foot swells at times and right next Miami Surfers catching waves side-by-side were dolphins & Surfers on Waveland Beach just over the Martin County line in Port St. Lucie. There was a great Reef system and I love living on the 4th floor was a perfect visual. Floors 4 & 5 were perfecto. 12 floor was too high to see and hear the ocean. It looked like this. 🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬 🏄♂️🐬🌊🐬 🏄♂️ 🐬🌊🐬 🏄♀️🐬 🏄♀️🐬 🏄♀️🐬🐬 🏄♂️🐬🐬🏄♂️🐬🐬🏄♂️🐬🐬🏄♂️🐬🐬🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🐬🏄♂️🌊🐬🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🐬🏄♂️🐬🐬🌊🐬🏄♂️ 🐬🏄♂️ 🌊🐬🏄♂️ 🐬🏄♂️ 🌊🐬🏄♂️ 🐬🌊🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🐬🌊 🏄♂️ 🌊🐬🏄♂️ 🐬🌊🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🏄♂️ 🌊🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊🏄♂️🐬🌊
There's an inlet on lake Michigan in Grand Haven that makes that look easy. I live in Lake ST.Clair which is the largest tributary lake on the Great Lakes situated beliw Huron. It us in average 12 feet deep and on a sunny Sunday can have 6-8' chop just from boat traffic. I have been on the lake in one of the shallow bays in a sudden storm and have seen the valley of the waves expose bottom at 4' deep. PFDs are mandatory here. They save lives.
I like that you made this video it’s good to hear some information about the area other than what we see in the inlet. I like seeing the warm boating environment. Here in Washington State North of Seattle we absolutely wear a PFD you don’t have very much time to save yourself here after 10 minutes you won’t be able to self rescue pulling yourself up the swim step it’s too cold and our Tides are big so there’s LOTS of currents! Be safe and God Bless!❤️😏🇺🇸
Man I hope you don't get me wrong but I feel a little bit sorry for you because you are sitting on the shore filming and making good content for us while others are enjoying the sea and the waves.I hope your channel some day is gonna make enough money so you can go buy a boat making even better content for us. Wish you all the best!
Haulover inlet is so rough because it is not a natural inlet. It was cut in 1925. I am from NJ, Barnegat inlet is the same. The ocean is always trying to fill it in and creates sand bars which cause the waves to stand up tall and have un-natural fast frequency. I have seen canals which were human made with ridiculous currents and steep waves also.
How much knots current is there? I work as a captain on a 7200hp Voith Schneider Tug, and I would love to smash the throttle in the inlet and smash all those waves 🙃
Thank you very much for your explanations. They were excellent for getting know a little more about Miami. Greetings from Brazil Rio Grande do Norte State, Touros City
A lot of your content is very good for people to learn about “what not to do”. It’s also extremely informative on how boats handle the chop and waves in rough situations. Not to mention watching exceptionally built boats handled by less than competent people and vice versa. Out of curiosity, ZipZapPower- what kind of boat do you own?
Thanks and you've nailed exactly why I make the vids. I rent or ride on friend's, not in the budget to own and nowhere to store at the moment, I rented a Falcon 2270 on Memorial Day, decent old boat.
Great info.. Towed the boat down while on vacation and boated out of Fort Lauderdale..Cruised out to local man made reef also. .. Loved cruising intercoastal.. Great time, miss it.. Thanks ZipZap..
Hope I didn't miss you answering this, how wide is the inlet, what's depth on one side vs other? I'd like a overhead video sometimes. Great job man, enjoy the channel. I grew up running all kinds of boats and skis in a big lake but never have driven in the ocean. Stay safe and enjoy.
It's also not mentioned that it's faster to get to Miami Beach to the South and Fort Lauderdale to the North via the ocean than the Intracoastal waterways where the are "No Wake Zones" for miles. For the non-boater, that pretty much means going just a bit faster than idle speed so the boat doesn't make waves that disturb docked boats as well as seawalls that protect homes and businesses.
Just want to say thanks for uploading a real good quality 4k60 video! Looks amazing on the OLED. Hopefully you'll move to an 8k60 camera setup soon so folks can appreciate these videos in even greater detail!
I like this video... Going for a personal engagement with the ZipZap Power family 👍.. Giving alot of value to everyone that uses that inlet and also to those who would want to come visit... Nice work ZipZap...
Just found your channel. Thanks for the info and for the video content. Water taxi is a great idea! Just shared this vid with my brother who’s headed to Miami in a week or so.
Here on Lake Michigan you do not have to have a PFD on but, must have one for everyone on the boat plus a throwable PFD. Hope there the boaters at least have them easy to get to.
My season is over, and it is warm enough to watch your videos and look forward for the next season. It sure is a different world...and different is good. Keep up the good work you do and thank you for Haulover Inlet Info. Wishing Happy Holidayz from Maryland!!!!😎🌲🍺
Every time we hit Ft Lauderdale we pick up the water taxi in Bahia Mar and end up at Margaritaville in Hollywood. A great time and best $28 one can spend. Best tip for Haulover...the right trim and decent speed. If a capt misses the trim and speed, the spin cycle will win every time.
I like the fact that you always show your concern for the kids. They dont know better and the parents should take ever precaution possible.

Okay, maybe other inlets have bigger waves, but Haulover got bigger, faster and cooler boats. This would be really a nice place to hang out. THX for the explanation!
keeps us brit,s amused in the winter,we only have the mudeford run and the chop at hurst castle and the ledge off hengistbury head.KEEP IT UP
6:31 finally gets to it. Your welcome
@Hmfirestormz - 6:31 - 6:39 covers it. The rest is just chatter.

Best boating action on CZcams! Keep 'em coming.
Watching from Germany.
I love Florida. Boating . And your Channel . Great . Thanks for the explanations !!!!! Interesting !!!!!
hello! thanks for being here!
I love the Paddle Board guy..bless his heart. Thanks for what you do.😎
Thanks. That answers a lot of questions I had about Haulover. I,m fascinated with Haulover.
Wow, look at you. It’s great seeing you. Love the channel, keep up the good work.
Wavy Boats, Broncos Guru, Miami Boat Ramp, and Haulover Inlet brought me here :-)
Man I hope you don't get me wrong but I feel a little bit sorry for you because you are sitting on the shore filming and making good content for us while others are enjoying the sea and the waves.I hope your channel some day is gonna make enough money so you can go buy a boat making even better content for us. Wish you all the best!
ha, don't feel bad for me!
Thank you. Long time subscriber here. This answered the questions I've often wondered about.
Hi from Donegal, Ireland. Nice to see you, your channel is excellent.
Hello! Thank you!
Really great explaination, your love of the water comes home.
Stay safe
Thanks! Happy New Year!
Nice to see the person behind the camera. Love the work you do thanks a lot
What is the displacement
Michael Edlin Approx 570Tons
Thank you sir
PressTube I think that’s called hubris. If you do a little digging, you’ll see that nature usually, make that always, wins.
Ha and I’d love to watch it/listen to it!
Thank you very much for your explanations. They were excellent for getting know a little more about Miami. Greetings from Brazil Rio Grande do Norte State, Touros City
Watching your channel make me want to move to south Florida Dude.
Great video, nice to put a face to the name, thanks for posting, from another one of your UK subscribers!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
@@ZipZapPower I understand what you mean completely. Boats are not cheap, a Falcon is a nice boat!
Thanks for posting this. It's nice to finally see the face behind the camera...
Wonderful explanation of Haulover’s hazards. Thanks!
Interesting. And good info. My old V6 4bb bayliner cuddy will never see it. Love ur videos.
Great info.. Towed the boat down while on vacation and boated out of Fort Lauderdale..Cruised out to local man made reef also. .. Loved cruising intercoastal.. Great time, miss it.. Thanks ZipZap..
Crusing the inside is so nice.
Love watching your videos, being stuck at work and being able to watch boats;ocean ect... gta love it!
I'm happy to help out!
My buddy and I love watching your channel. Endless entertainment, and education!
Hey man I use to go to that beach when I was a kid living in north Miami Beach i really want to visit again
Timing the tides (incoming vs outgoing) could greatly help you enter and exit under calmer conditions.
Just want to say thanks for uploading a real good quality 4k60 video! Looks amazing on the OLED. Hopefully you'll move to an 8k60 camera setup soon so folks can appreciate these videos in even greater detail!
Thanks for putting the Boat Specs in the video!
I like this video... Going for a personal engagement with the ZipZap Power family 👍.. Giving alot of value to everyone that uses that inlet and also to those who would want to come visit... Nice work ZipZap...
Thanks for the vid!...I LOVE seeing how the other half lives....pure entertainment. Come on Powerball....;)
Just found your channel.
Thanks for the info and for the video content.
Water taxi is a great idea! Just shared this vid with my brother who’s headed to Miami in a week or so.
Thank you!!! Just learned of HAULOVER Inlet😍
You are a real nice guy, I feel bad I left so many sarcastic comments, but I hope you're good sport.😀
ha. i'm a good sport with thick skin!
This is great context! Thanks ZipZap!
Love this channel. I agree with the water taxi part. Live near stop 6 on the FT. Lauderdale Intercoastal.
I always wondered why howlover inlet is so crazy😅 thanks u for this video. New subscriber!!
Here on Lake Michigan you do not have to have a PFD on but, must have one for everyone on the boat plus a throwable PFD. Hope there the boaters at least have them easy to get to.
Started watching recently! Love the videos. It is always good to be able to place a face with the content. Please continue the videos!!!
Thanks, happy you are here!
the french guy, that inlet is insane. I'm subscribed to his channel
Hello , i would like to see it , would you be able to put the link? Thanks!
Yes, please post the link
Here in Oregon when you go out of the Columbia River now that is a different world
I was a instructor there at the USCG NMLS. The students from the east coast were the worst. They had never seen waves like we have on the Columbia.
The inlet in France he is referencing is the De L’annee De La Passé
It's 2020 and you still can't copy paste från CZcams app.. damn that's hard to write. But thanks!
My season is over, and it is warm enough to watch your videos and look forward for the next season. It sure is a different world...and different is good. Keep up the good work you do and thank you for Haulover Inlet Info. Wishing Happy Holidayz from Maryland!!!!😎🌲🍺
Oh yes, love Maryland, see you in the spring!
@@ZipZapPower
Let me know if you come up here....especially Crab Season😎
We'll definitely, do something👍🏼
All questions answered 😃 Thanks a lot! Greetings from Berlin.
Hollywood has a great boardwalk. Taco Spot is the best for chillin with tacos and people watching!
@@ZipZapPower and now my brother-in-law lives 2 miles from Margaritaville...it is great.
