Thanks for the review! As you indicated, its a well-made heavy duty can that will last a very long time, but I'm not a fan of proprietary mounting systems. I have three older pre-SOCOM Sure Fire suppressors that will last me forever, but SF no longer makes mount for them, and when you occasionally do find mounts on the net, people want crazy prices for them.
I hear ya. If push comes to shove you can always run the can as a direct thread 🤷♂️ But I hear you.
@@CalebDowning How can you make it direct thread?
@SigmaSheepdog Tighten the muzzle device into the suppressor and leave it there. If you do that then the suppressor will in essence become a direct thread.
@@CalebDowning Ah, ok, I'll have to give that a try on one of my Surefire cans. Thanks for the pro tip!
It would be nice to see a comparison between this and the new Surefire RC3. They’re of similar size and weight.
Nice bro, can't wait for the comparison vid. Would like to see it compared to the Sierra 5 especially considering who they are both made by
That’s definitely a comparison we’ll do 👌
Both are made by KGM
Yes, it looked to handle that 7.5” no problem!
How was gas to the face compared to YHM Turbo?
Also, nice rotating display table😉
It definitely surprised me by how well it tamed that 7.5 😱
It wasn’t as gassy as some other cans in its size. I think the ported end really does help drag whose gasses out the front.
Thanks 👊🏻
I wish the R556A2 wasnt as heavy as it is. Looks like i will have to get the R556A1 when its available.
It is a relatively heavy can. But that’s one payoff for a heavy duty can 🤷♂️
@@CalebDowning My only thing is that is more a beltfed heavy duty (R556A2). I'd rather Buy GA DL5. That's still considered heavy duty but is almost about 8oz lighter
@HersheyRoseX We have the Dual-Lok 5 in right now. It’s definitely lighter weight.
Any thoughts on the KGM 556 vs OCL Polonium or K
Hmm, I’ve only used the KGM 556 so I can’t really speak to the Polonium. I keep hearing how awesome the Polonium is though 🤔
@CalebDowning I bought one today so I hope! My first one should get shipped to jail about same time as this one. It's a Witt Machine Dirty 30! So I'll have one for both calibers for about 1200 including extortion fees LOL
This suppressor is on sale for $350 online right now and I'm complete broke 😭😭
You talking about ArmsUnlimited? Killer deal for sure man. Murphy’s law 🤦♂️😏
Buy only if you don't care about flash, its like a sun in the end of your barrel once the can gets hot.
You should see if they will send you the r556a1 and r556a2
Hmm, that would be interesting 🤔
I never understood why 5.56 suppressors were so smol/short its a high pressure loud cartridge yet they act like it doesn't require much volume to supress it.
That’s a good point. When I did my video on the Nomad L I was pretty shocked by how well it suppressed my 7.5” 5.56. Makes sense though. That was a huge can on a short barrel 🤷♂️
I've seen a lot of people talking about problems with the mount online and say you should stear clear. Have you seen any of those issues now that you've had it for a while? I can get on for $330 shipped. At that price, seems like a good deal even if the mount has some issues
At that price I’d say for for it. Shoot, even if there was some issue with the mount you could just leave the muzzle device in the can and run it as a direct thread 🤷♂️
But no, I have not had any issues with the mounting system on mine.
Where are you seeing it for 330 shipped? 🤔
@CalebDowning arms unlimited. They're 350 there right now, but I requested a quote from them, and they sent a code for $20 off. So really it's like $335 shipped, but still that seems like a pretty damn good price for a dedicated 556 can.
Thanks for the info by the way, I think I'm going to snag one!
I got a R556 "free" with the purchase of an IWI Carmel. It's marked R556, but KGM only shows the R556A1 and the R556A2 on their website. Is the one that I got an older version or are the R556 and R556A2 the same thing?
The R556 and R556A2 are two different cans. The A2 is going to be a little bit wider in diameter so it will have more internal volume.
@@CalebDowning That's interesting. Do you have any idea why they don't show the R556 on their website?
@bretak74 I found it on their site 🤔 I can’t sent links here on CZcams but I can send you one over on Instagram.
I think the R556 was recently phased out in favor of the A2 version (update)...probably why they were on sale when I bought mine earlier this year and why it was included with your rifle purchase. When I was researching before my purchase, the R556 was the only one on the website.
Kgm or Griffin GP5,? im buying either one tomorrow. I just want whatever is the most quiet
Hmm, that’s an interesting choice. I really love Griffin cans but the KGM is a pretty darn solid performer. The KGM also has a built in QD mount. So if you want to put your can on multiple hosts then you’d either have to be swapping muzzle devices or buy multiple muzzle devices for the KGM. The GP5 is direct thread so you wouldn’t need to worry about muzzle devices.
To be fare, I’ve never shot the GP5 so I can’t speak to how well it works. I think it would come down to which can has the features you need. Sorry, that’s kind of vague, but it’s the best I can do without having used the GP5.
How was the noise suppression on the 7.5?
It was still loud but i would say it did a better job than many of my other 5.56 cans. Still probably not hearing safe.
Thank you
