    mine lasted about 5 years, and its only two bags on the axle, 9 ton axle. did not blow, but started to leak. 500 dollars each, and they even charged 500 for changing them. well thats the last time i buy them at volvo lol.

    I'm a little late on to this channel and I've read all the comments and I happen to own a 98 volvo with leaf springs and a 2006 volvo with front air ride suspension, I cab truly tell you that the leaf spring ride is allot smoother than the air ride and I've only had to teplace the leaf springs once.

    My steer air back just blew out on my Volvo 2006 truck. I got the truck from the last 9 years and that's the first steer air back I need to replace. I am in Montana right now and the mobile mechanic told me will cost me around $700-$800 to replace it. He is 40 miles away from me and will come from Billings, MT. I stop on a rest area on I90. I don't know about the air back but he blew my mind with that price :). It's Saturday so nobody else cares air backs here in Billings, MT which surprises me a lot. I will pay that guy that price otherwise I need to wait by Monday when the other shops open.

    Yeah, I have a 2011 Volvo 730 and my steer bags have a bolt on the top and bottom, but it's the leveling valves that I'm always swapping out. Good video again.

    I really like your videos. I found you back when I had my 780 and you helped me a lot with stuff on it. I sold that truck and got me a 05 KW 600 it's the 3rd KW i've owned. To me the KW's are a much better truck. Mine has a twin turbo C15 cat and surprisingly it gets over 6.5 mpg. So far I haven't really spent a ton on it. I keep watching your videos and still like them. I don't want to go back to a Volvo myself though.

    Those bags do look under sized...like you said. I have run oversized bags on my truck and it definitely rides smoother but it also wilts around curves, sloped roads and shoulders. The larger bags run at half the pressure to accomplish the same ride height. To get the same stability would require more air pressure. But then the ride height would be taller. Compromise.. compromise.

    I have an 2005 780 with air ride, I changed the same side and it was a total pain! Your style bag is different from mine. Never again. I wish I had your style .

    Does your truck have dual leveling belts and if it does does it pull to the right does it feel sloppy being the steering I'm lost as far as my front axle goes it's a new axle new shocks all linkages good dual leveling Downs pulls right and feels like jelly has new cab mounts. And everything and everything set to ride height correct

    do you think the air bags in the front is worth the difference in the ride from traditional springs? considering the overall cost and short life of the bags? i have never had one with air bags in the front.

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  Před 4 lety +1

      not really, its far from smooth, just like any other big truck. I wonder if you had 2 identical trucks on the same road how much difference you could tell. springs wear out to but not as fast as these bags blow. I believe the newer trucks uses a bigger bag with a metal plate and bolt in the top.

      We have had full air suspension on our trucks in Sweden since I got my licenece 1991 (and earlier) without problems. And we have higher axle loads. What are you doing over there?

    You can buy the front axle with the leaf no air bags from the junkyard install it easy
    Keep your blue truck for parts don’t try to sell it it’s not worth nothing

    Could you please do a video on how to trouble shoot the leveling valves on the front suspension? My VNL 630 is slightly leanin. My driver side bag is filling more than the passenger side.

    • @LifeWithChase

      They are adjustable. Loosen screws and they will rotate a small amount.

  • @matthewhansen5008

    As much trouble as they seen to give I would get two new ones and put them on. Your blue truck needs some bags might as well put them back on it instead of new ones.

    Dang those look like the ones you stick on a pick up truck, I'd modify that and put those double bellows that are metal on the top and bottom that's crazy the factory put those small ones on the front of that thing the dam engine weights 1500 to 2300lbs that's not including the frame or anything else yet

    Hey Chase allow me the courtesy to ask you a question, let’s say you have no airbags around, or I don’t have the money to buy them, can you fold the Air Line put a Zip tied and continue going on your trip, , In other words would like to know if it’s going to affect the suspension or anything of that nature

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  Před rokem

      The airbag is the suspension. It'll be the worst ride you've ever experienced. You'll be looking for the nearest place to get one!

    Why did you make that mistake and bought air ride on front... ??? This axle is shit and has a lot of problems.. From wearing tires from insids to leveling valves .. And drives like boat.. My brain got sick.. Mentality.. Feels like truck want to flip on left side... Bro have owned 3 trucks with this shit... And never again i will buy this shit... I only have one left. With this axle.. All trucks have problems.. King pin bushings and all had axle caster correction. Fixed all issues and i gave up.. Due to ride feel was scaring me that would flip on left.. I spend a lot of money, tires, and nerves .. Good luck .. Am thinking to convert one that left to spring
