  • The Shanghai police installed a new pedestrian crosswalk warning system in the Bund area of Shanghai before the National Day holidays, the first of its kind in China. The system also has the function of alerting traffic offenders, and will be used on the surrounding roads of the upcoming first China International Import Expo.
Compared with the traditional red and green indicators, the new system has a number of LED indicators being installed on the street and on the ground. When the traffic is permitted or forbidden, the corresponding green and red indicators will be switched on to give more obvious signs. At the same time, the system can also be used to alert people who run red lights.
In addition to voice and light alerts, the system is equipped with a high-pixel camera with the function of capturing and checking pedestrians who go against the traffic sign. The photos of those violators will be released in real time on the LED electronic screen as a deterrent. www.cctvplus.co...

strict rules need to be implemented for drivers, motorcyclists, and pedestrians, since many tend to ignore traffic regulations. those breaking the rules, should be given a fined or whatsoever to teach em a lesson.

Don’t hold your breath. Most Chinese drivers have no concept of what a crosswalk is for. That’s why abroad they are considered the worst drivers in the world 🌎.

It literally has no good use. The netherlands is the best when it comes to traffic infrastructure

It has to be used bc a lot of people do walk. And this is only working at night time so it works for the drivers and the pedestrians so they can see better

Shanghai is the only City in China that enforces pedestrian crosswalks violations. Most other cities the police don’t. Crosswalks not regulated by lights are meaningless to the majority of Chinese drivers and will hit crossing pedestrians without ever slowing down.

Nothing like creating ambiguous traffic lights - it is not clear whether for cars or for pedestrians.

wino0000006 ~ it’s not extremely complicated if you have half a brain. People know what a traffic light looks like, The motorized traffic is still going to follow what the traffic light displays. It’s easy to decipher the traffic light because it’s high up on a pole like it always has been!! These pedestrian crosswalk bars are either on the street, or in front of you in the shape of a long, narrow strip. Regardless, the pedestrian signal and traffic lights are going to display the same color if they are in the same direction. So a green light should have a green pedestrian crosswalk signal as well. Not overly complicated, do not make it out to be more than it is.

      1. The lights and signs should be desinged in a way that any one seeing them for the first time knows what they mean.
      2. Installing visible red lights for pedestrians on the road surface that are also visible for drivers - is stupid and extremaly dangerous.
      Period.

It is obviously for pedestrians. It is on the zebra markings. In some cities, there are signal lights for trams that vehicle drivers see too but do not confuse them.

This way it is unclear if this is for vehicles.

@@wino0000006 On a busy city street at night there are myriad lights all over. A competent driver always knows which lights he has to follow. The rest are just illumination.
