For anyone wondering, the NWR engine pulling the passenger train in the 'Two Days Later' shot is Bear.
    EDIT:
Goose is not Peter. Had he been running on Sodor in the 1960s, the NWR engines would have seen him - which they didn't.

Based on characters who can keep a secret, I'd say Goose has to either be Edward or Duck. We did see Edward in the shot of Sir Handel talking to Henry, so he may have overheard them talking. Duck would also be a possible idea, considering his name. Adeline was code named swan, but most swans I've seen aren't bright red, so it can't be based on livery unless adeline had a white/gray one before.
Another possibility could be Donald, though i only have his connection to Dilly as a weak link. My best Guess is still Edward or Duck, as the two of them seem the most likely to be able to keep a secret. Edward more than Duck, as his age and experience would make him quite responsible.
    Edit:
Also using the 007 clue, it could be toby. It can't be one of the mainline engines, as we know none of them knew the codename. It has to be a locomotive from a branchline or a works engine of sorts. The MOD would likely have either shipped their materials overland or from a port. Toby, Thomas, Percy, Oliver and Sheffield all have too low water capacity to be able to make it from the west of sodor to the SKR without stopping for water. You'd need to get those shipments delivered as soon as possible, and constant water stops would hinder that. I think Duck could just barely manage, but it would be a stretch. Donald and Douglas are known to travel wherever needed on the island, eg: the little western, Edward's branch line, or the mainline when needed, but as they are usually found on the west of Sodor I'm hesitant to choose them.
Edward and Boco are my strongest guesses, as they are based closer than most any other of the main engines to the skr, seeing as Edward's branchline is located mid west on sodor rather than just west. Boco might work considering he would have minimal chance of giving off sparks, and would be quieter.
But if we also consider the Events of Edward's Exploit, the MOD could have approached the old engine at the works to deliver supplies. Seeing as his branchline ends at a major port, he is located mostly in mid-western sodor, and his experience and larger travel range, i think Edward was Goose.
Edit 2: after doing some further research, I've noticed a few things:
-the skr sold the quarry to the MOD in 1960. Boco didn't arrive until 1965, so he's out.
-Edward had his exploit later that year, and would have been at the works for a while around that time.
-Duke was discovered in 1969, and Adeline had her accident a few months before that.
-After his encounter with Diesel, Duck worked on the mainline till 1967 when he got his branchline. Now unless Duck continued to deliver these trains after he got his branchline, that leaves 2 years of deliveries for the MOD unaccounted for until Adeline's accident. This leaves only 3 engines: Edward, Donald and Douglas. Douglas is actually a strong candidate.
Remember when Douglas went to the other railway with the night Goods? Thats when he found Oliver. What if his night goods trains were MOD trains?
Therefore, only engines on the nwr between 1960 and 1969 could have worked for the MOD. They also must have decent water and fuel capacity. They can't be a normal mainline engine, atleast not in the modern day roster. I'm convinced it's either Donald, Douglas, or Edward.

AND I feel that Iris is also out as well. We need an engine who is freely able to bring munitions in and out of the island starting in the early 1960's. Iris was built in 1965, and would have been kept so busy that she most likely wouldn't have the time to make deliveries to sodor unless she worked near barrow. Iris may know the engine who collected the munitions however.

The incident in question sounds like the events of "Munitions" however that wasn't caused by sparks, it was caused by a brute Bluenose barging in while munitions were being loaded from barge to tramp steamer, his barge bumped the munitions and that's what started the fire. Not sparks from the tugs. There was the incident in "Jinxed" where Boomer's sparks ignited the munitions but it wasn't a large scale disaster that blew the docks up as mentioned in the video. Was the tale slightly twisted by the military officials that got wind of it as a way to cover up the Navy's screwup (mainly Bluenose's) by any chance?

This Goose has got to be someone who would cause the least suspicion. I would have said Sheffield would be a likely engine but he didnt arrive on Sodor until 1994 and it cant be his twin Wilbert either as he didnt visit Sodor until the 90's. Lily was underwater by then so cant be her either. My guess is it's either Duck, Edward, Thomas or one of the Scottish twins. However my strongest bet is with Duck.

Here's the clues I've deduced from the episode thus far:
    - None of the Mainline engines know anything, James had no idea when asked
    - Goose is referred to as 'He'
    - Goose is standard gauge
    - Geese are 'Loud, brash birds that make a honking noise'
    - Had to have been on the Island in the early - mid 60s
    - WNW on twitter said that Donald only has a cameo appearance
Here's a list of possibilities that were drawn up in the discussion following the episode's release:
Duck was brought up due to the name alone, however I beilive personally that he's too obvious
Douglas due to his frequent allocation to the Midnight Goods trains, leading to his finding of Oliver
Boco was a consideration due to the connection of Geese honking, but hadn't arrived on the island until 1965
Percy I then realised could be a suspect due to the fact he's not unfamiliar to Ghost Stories and pranks involving them

And i know Rheneas saw she had no crew in her cab. So my theory is that Adeline's crew are ghosts too. And they were testing her to she how well she can move by herself (due to her being a Ghost), And after Adeline past Rheneas, She became invisible and caused an invisible explosion (Possibly how she died before coming to the SKR As a Ghost) And made everyone think she had an accident on the Old Iron Bridge, And now she's tricking others (Including Atlas) by becoming invisible and Making everyone think she's in trouble by calling for help.

I've got 3 ideas who "Goose" could be: (Potential spoilers inbound)
The potential 3 I have in mind.
Duck: Obvious name relation, but could be a red herring from WNW, like James was.
Iris: She worked at a munitions factory (Potentially her bringing the munitions from her plant to Crovan's Gate) , So She would likely have MOD clearance. Also her being a diesel, relating to the honking that Peter Sam thought about. She’s quite stubborn too, like a goose.
Caden: The least likely in my eyes, because no MOD clearance, But him being from barrow, a diesel, and being argumentative make sense for him being a "goose".
Also,I believe that “Goose” is more likely a Diesel, because of the honking mentioned by Peter Sam. Also the only Diesels truly working on sodor in 1968 (according to the wiki) are Daisy, Boco, Bear, and Mavis. Mavis worked at the quarry, and doesn't seem like she would go to the length to do the MOD work at Crovan's Gate, Boco and Bear do not seem to like up with the goose description Peter Sam gave, and Daisy, while lining up with the description, doesn’t like to pull, and works on the farquhar branch, making her go all the way to Crovan's gate and beyond puts her way far away from her working area, and she doesn’t like to pull. I personally theorize that a diesel coming from the Mainland would make sense for “Goose” because none of the Diesels on Sodor seem like potential candidates for such a role, given Peter Sam’s Description of the role.
Both Caden and Iris were built before 1968, Caden in 1961, and Iris in 1965, according to the wiki. Skarloey did say that the quarry had been bought out in the EARLY 1960’s which might invalidate my Iris claim and might put caden in a better light. Duck is an obvious idea because of the time availability and the name, but also him going to the other railway doesn't seem likely.

    • @numberjacksoctonauts7138
      @numberjacksoctonauts7138 Před 2 lety

I doubt it's Iris because she hasn't been on Sodor prior to 2009, and she isn't a case of 'remember the new guy'. Caden is a case of 'remember the new guy', but I don't know if it's him or not.

This is just a wild guess but I might be onto something. Since the operations around the base were purely MoD, this means that only a locomotive of wartime construction could be the mysterious "Goose", as even in the 1960s, the MoD did still have locomotives of that category still in their books (Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0STs like Sheffield, WD 2-8-0s and 2-10-0s). It has to one of them.
