    Pep deserves more praise for his tactics here. I mean John stones was playing as an additional cdm alongside Rodri. Man City under Pep is a team where players can play out of position seamlessly. We have seen players like Walker invert and play as a second cdm, Cancelo as well, Bernardo silva etc. A couple of weeks ago, we saw Bernardo silva playing as a make-shift left-back and yet City won those few games that Pep tried that 'insane' tactic.
    Also Julian Alvarez fits perfectly in this City team. His intelligent movements, his mobility, his link-up play, his tireless workrate makes City move the ball so flawlessly and the players are able to interchange positions seamlessly. Alvarez is truly a gem.

    Alvarez will probably never have the numbers and headlines that Mbappe and Halland get. The difference is, he makes the entire team play better. He is very tactically aware, he is so so good drifting back and occupying the classic 10 position. He presses and defends effectively. The level of tactical awareness is basically unheard of for someone his age. He was born to play as a false 9 in this team.

      Agree! City need a player who contributes to team play and Alvarez is a compete player. In this game it is evident how he changes the fluidity of the team compared to Haaland. With Haaland on the pitch, City plays like they are "playing FOR Haaland" and with Alvarez they are 11 players playing for the TEAM. For me this is their best game of the season. Erling is a truly amazing striker but he simply does not have tactical nous or positional awareness to play in the La Salida Lavolpiana system. All he wants to do is bear down on goal. This has disrupted City's fluidity and interchangeability. As a result, City are no longer the 96-100 points team that they should be. 🤔

    Some key points i have observed in the match:
    1- This is why you don't press in a 4-2-4 Formation against a team that likes to dominate the midfield, You'll basically get raped to death.
    2- Im quite surprised you haven't mentioned how City tended to overload one side of the pitch before switching the play to the winger with either KDB or Gundogan overlapping to cross it into the penalty area or cutting it back to the midfield.

    As good as you analysed this, nonoe of what you discussed led to a goal.. A simple observation. 1) For all 4 goals AA was involved - Totally out of position and playing everyone on for the first goal. For the second goal you AA was in the RW position and Fabinho couldnt make up the space left behind giving the attackers freedom to move pulling Konate out of positing. Third goal he lays it on for Gundagon while lying deeper than everyone else. Fourth goal AA doesnt track Grealish. Klopp may have issues with the midfield, I think he is to blame for not addressing the AA problem. If the midfield is not up to it anymore, then he needs to accomodate with a RB that can defend as a priority.

    • @FredericFreedom
      @FredericFreedom Před rokem +1

      @acs6682 Před rokem

      He literally showed how this lead to Alvarez goal. And said 3 of the 4 goals were scored by using these scenarios. Please watch the entire video before making a comment and pay attention. Yes Trent was to blame as well. But Liverpool press was ineffective and Elliot was made to cover ake and gundo which freed up space in the midfield and Alvarez would drop in playing a pass to one of the pivots and or gundo and kdb. Liverpool would then overload one side which forced city to swith to the other side then grealish played a good pass to alvares and that's how the city's first goal was scored. You can't blame TAA for everything Klopp is also to blame.

    Pep was brilliant and City played very well but the analysis is too simplistic. Klopp was naive and should have been less open but he most likely using the game as a template for the run in against the better teams rather than genuinely expecting to get 'a result' at the Etihad. Liverpool have technically inferior players to City, with two midfielders who can't run at speed, can no longer tackle or press anywhere near what is required at Premier League level... Their two younger physically capable midfielders are both injured and the other two are hopeless crocks 😂😔 So Klopp was stuck with Henderson & Fabinho ambling around chasing shadows. Liverpool's most threatening wide attacking forward Luis Diaz was also absent after a bad injury. Diogo Jota is nowhere near match fit after a long injury lay off, so effectively Klopp was carrying 3 players against one of the best teams in modern history, away from home. City were full of confidence and playing at the Etihad at least 5 points behind the Premier League leaders. The result should not have been a surprise to people who truly know the game.

      CL is cup competition and requires luck in draws and in matches. This competition glorified by german and spanish teams cz their leagues were shite and they judge their success only on CL titles. They sack their managers if they win only league title and no CL. You can judge from that

    I feel like a lot of these problems for Liverpool could have been averted if in the last 2 summer windows, Liverpool rejuvenated their midfield and back line
    But the dumbest thing they have done, is letting go of Mane.

      @@robertbell5788 Please no I want him to stay and I'd much rather haaland go than Alvarez. Haaland is a better striker than Alvarez but the team just plays so much better when Alvarez plays instead of Haaland. His ability to hold the ball and his link up play is what makes him so good for us. He doesn't need to score 50 goals a season for us.

      @@acs6682 I think by now you should know that the two have different playing styles and strengths. Haaland is just a pure center forward who thrives on scoring goals. I mean, why hate him on that? Both players are extremely talented.

      @@adehlaide-qd5of Bro I'm not hating. I'm a Man City fan, I love Haaland. I'm saying that Alvarez offers us something that Haaland doesn't, but Haaland gets us goals. He scored 42 goals in 37 games for us, he's been our best player this season. I would much rather Haaland leave because Honestly I don't see him playing for city after 4 or 5 years especially if a team like Madrid come for him. But with Alvarez there's a chance that he could be our number 9 for a decade like aguero was, that's why I said what I said. I would love for both to stay but I think Alvarez will grow impatient with the game time he gets as opposed to Haaland who plays almost every game. I'm not hating just stating my opinion.
