Easiest Garden Wildlife Pool Build for FROGS, BUGS & BIRDS 🐸🐝🐞

- If you’ve been watching any of my videos this year, you will know that I am concentrating on creating a wildlife-friendly habitat for my garden. So far this year I have added a small 50 gallon wildlife pond and built an underground hibernaculum - all to help nature and attract bugs, insects, birds and amphibians to my garden.
Thank you so much to Andrew and all his team at / @blagdonwatergardening for sending us this gorgeous LIBERTY SOLAR NO DIG NATURE POOL for our garden, and in today’s video Richard demonstrates just how quick and easy it is to put together and we had a wonderful nature pool in less than an hour!

Ideally you would use rainwater to fill a fish or wildlife pond, but as we didn’t have enough stored, we used tap water - it’s always important to leave tap water to settle for 10-14 days before adding pond plants or fish. This is to allow time for any chlorine to dissipate.
The pond plants we added are:
CREEPING JENNY (Lysimachia Nummularia)
HARD RUSH (Juncus Inflexus)
UMBRELLA PALM (Cyperus Alternifolius)
LIZARD’S TAIL (Saurus Cernuus)
BARBARA DOBBINS WATER LILY (Nymphaea)
SWEET FLAG (Acorus Calamus Variegatus)
WATER LETTUCE
and the plants in separate planters surrounding the pond are:
IVIES we are training in espalier diamond shapes
GAURA ‘Gaudi White’
GAURA ‘Cherry Brandy’
WALNUT TREE (Juglans Regia)
Our LIBERTY SOLAR NO DIG NATURE POOL comes fully equipped with the blagdonwaterga... which we have been most impressed with. It comes complete with a variety of fountain heads so you can choose whichever one you prefer the look of, or switch them over to create different effects whenever you like.
Another great thing about these BLAGDON pools is that they are portable and easy to pack up and reassemble if you’re moving house. They are also ideal for small patios or balconies too.
We cannot recommend these pools highly enough. They are sturdy and fantastic quality, so straightforward and easy to put together and, as Richard says in the video, a pleasurable job to install.

Hello and thank you so much! It’s been a few weeks now and the pond is settling down really well. I haven’t seen much in the way of wildlife yet but I have my fingers crossed 🤞 ❤️😊 and we are just waiting now for the results of all Richard’s tests and scans but really looking forward to our cruise 🚢

Hi Janette and Richard too this time, well done! I think a man can't resist the challenge of putting something together. That 'going together properly' click must be very satisfying. Looks so good with all the plants and the fountain. I hope it won't be long before your first guests are climbing those stairs. I love how you've planted up the pot at the back. Gaura is such an awful name for such a pretty plant. I think its other name is Whirling Butterflies which sounds so much nicer. I am glad you now have a free standing pond on your patio. I have a different one which has a waterfall top ledge with a long light under it and I set it on top of a table. Mine is not for wildlife.

Wow! You have mastered the “wildlife” garden. Everyone should at least have this one or something like it for wildlife these days. People here are putting containers outside for small animals to have water because of the heatwave. It’s been 108 degrees F. where I’m at.
You’ve definitely made another exceptional addition to your garden. Richard did a great job putting the pond together, and fast! lol I love the wall behind it and the tree looks great. It already looks established! 🐸🐞🪷

@@TheEnthusiasticGardener It is nice. The temperatures are so high. If everyone did this where animals can’t find water it would help our wildlife. We have a creek and big pond by us so that helps. I do keep a dish out for insects and birds here but I have my little ponds that help too.

Hi Janette! What a fun surprise! It looks wonderful in your garden. I would love a water feature in my yard. I have a bird bath and thought about putting in one of those solar fountains in it since I don’t have a lot of electrical around the yard. Aww AJ you’re always so great!! We had more wildlife than expected last night and I caught a fox on our CCTV at 3am this morning going for the suet balls and he took some, knocking the Sweet Flag right on its side in the water and the little tortoise was sunk to the bottom 🥴 so I’ve had to move the suet log thing somewhere else. Little devils 😊🧡

Thanks for your lovely comments, I like the crazy kids title 😂 we’ve really been enjoying the pond so far except a fox came in the night before last and stole the suet logs and knocked my sweet flag over into the water and drowned my hedgehog … saw it all on CCTV 😂 so I’ve moved the bird feeder! Im so excited Richard seems excited and makes it look very simple to put together . That inspiration of expeller with Ivy will be perfect . I laughed out loud when he pulled out zinnia 😂. We are very blessed to have partners that share in our passion for gardening. Just love the dramatic ladder if I was a frog id be curious where they lead😉. Those diamonds already look perfect. My pond is full of hover flies apparently they lay their eggs in it.. fascinating stuff. Keep up the great work!

I absolutely love this, it looks great…I’ve been contemplating having a pond for the last 2yrs but I’m worried I get too many frogs. I’ve had toads in the garden in a damp area behind the shed and I’ve had no pond 🥴

Morning to you Sharon, I’m trying my best for the wildlife 👍 although a bit too much wildlife last night as something got my suet balls and tipped my sweet flag over in the water in the process and my tortoise had been drowned 😂 and I’m guessing foxes 🦊 so I’d better move the suet ball thing!! 😊🧡

Good morning Janette and Richard, what an amazing product! I was so engrossed that my coffee went cold. The lovely selection of plants is really effective. Will any of the fat balls drop into the water making it murky when the birds start feeding on them?
The ivy diamonds look great and will be fun to see them develop. Shoes off ready for a paddle? (I'm a Gemini too! June 15).
Well actually Tony I went outside this morning and I think the foxes found my suet balls as my Sweet Flag was tipped over sideways and my tortoise was face down in the water 😂 suet balls are gone!! I think I’ll have to move that. At least something has had a nice midnight feast 😂🧡 I’m June 10th so we are almost garden twins 😂
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Oh my goodness, I wouldn't have thought foxes could enter your garden if frogs hadn't found the way in yet. Amazing what opportunist foxes are, but one of my favourite British mammals. I wonder if they are regular visitors and have slurped up any frogs before you get to see them? Tee Hee, garden twins, just a few days out!
@tonycritcher3419 oh yes we do get foxes around here and they normally don’t come in our garden as I think they know we have Lotte but they do clamber over the fences and I could hear them last night. Oh I hope they haven’t found the frogs before me 🥴🧡
@@TheEnthusiasticGardenerthese ponds are so lovely. We have one of the bigger ones and I love it. You might want to rethink on the fat balls. An acquaintance very nearly lost her dog after he ate about half of one. I have them in an enclosed holder so only tiny pieces can fall on the ground.

The pond is so pretty. Do you have to take the plants out in the winter? Good to see Richard. Your garden is expanded a lot from a few years ago. I was watching a few old videos.

soz , apart from water lettuce , they are not hardy in the UK . But you can just buy a no mother plant next spring ? , or try one in a vase on a windowsill or greenhouse perhaps.
Oh yes Alan I knew the water lettuce is an annual but OMG they just multiply so fast!! I am inundated with them now, from just two little ones 😂😂🧡

Is there a way anywhere for frogs, hedgehogs etc, to get into your garden?
I do have some gaps here and there Pat and I saw a frog here about a year ago so they can get in, I just need to put some “pond over here” signposts up for them 😂🧡

The crazy thing is, I have frogs in my garden but no pond. You have ponds but no frogs!! 🤣
It is quite amazing how far they travel away from water once they have finished breeding, newts likewise. Both great organic pest control.
