They weren’t years away. In 2008 summit US heavily supported Ukies in NATO. Back then the EU was against: France, Germany etc. The good old Europe. But with anti-Ru sentiment, LGBT oppression, this time the EU would probably have voted “yes”.
But the war in Ukraine is as Blinken said not only about NATO. He presented it as “Ukraine should be part of Ru in one way or another”, but it is rather like Vietnam: a part of Ukraine loves Ru and wants to be with it and an another part doesn’t. US backs these who doesn’t, and helps them to overthrow presidents elected by the entire Ukrainian nation, leaving no other thing to do to Russians to support the part which is pro-Russian.

I assume Blinken disagree about the Monroe doctrine. He probably will stand up for take away sanctions to Cuba too. In Blinken way of thinking there was no reason to punish Cuba, because they was free to decide their own future. Blinken is a dishonest person, he should rather admit that USA wanted this war.

One huge problem with ukraine entering NATO. There was no way on Gods green earth that Russia would ever allow that to happen and anyone who doesn’t understand that does not understand the region. How? He basically said Ukraine should not be a part of NATO regardless of Ukraine's feelings.
Then he said, US should have no influence on Ukraine and is to blame, but acts like the Kremlin isn't constantly influencing Ukraine, Belarus or Georgia.
It's really not a good argument. If Ukraine was in NATO Russia would never have attacked. If Ukraine wants to join NATO, it's their choice as a sovereign nation to choose to join any international alliance they want.

sen Paul is a shrewd analist of the current situation. International politics is not a matter of equal rights otherwise the 5 permanent members of UN would not have a veto so some countries are more equal than others as Orwell would say. So real politick dictates that Ucraine is not completely free in the current geopolitical situation as Italy is also not free to lift sanctions to Russia which are crippling our economy...we are a vassal state of yes men and also not free...wake up people!
