- This video is about the use of the square cash register from G and J Auctions. It covers a lot of the basics and is a good video for someone who just bought one and wants to know the basics- It is not a professional production but covers basic items like setting up the screen with items you sell ,starting the cash drawer for the day, ringing up sales with cash, checks and with the credit card chip reader. We go over editing sales before and after a total, refunds and removing tax. This video was made for our live auction business but doesn't matter what business it is for. 24 minutes long. Enjoy

I definitely recommend watching a CZcams tutorial when programming this register czcams.com/users/postUgkxUfV3__sR_Jf5SY4t3gDY4RnI5yDVWuFa but it really is fairly easy to follow along when you are doing so! After I did it once, I was able to go back and fix a few things and change a few things on my own without having to refer back to the video… Out of all the registers I have priced in a similar price bracket, in my opinion this one is the best.

Hi, thanks very much for sharing this video - very helpful. Especially helpful for my husband who, I have to say, had quite a grudge against me getting this system for our small pub here in the UK. It's only taken me 3 years to persuade him, lol. However, currently we are closed due to Covid 19 but when we reopen, we will be using the square system - I can also get my casual staff to view your video to help them get to grips with it. Am very grateful.

We need tutorials before using square. There wouldn't be so many screw ups. This sure explained a lot and showing us how to set it up. Thank you.
Kind of stunning that Square does not have thier own "How To" videos on here- which is why I made this one. I truly hope it helps with some of the main questions. We found that making a small booklet left at the register with "how to's" has been very helpful for on the spot / ringing someone up questions.
Question, how about if I want to offer monthly payments like 3 month paymwnt plan. Is there a way to set up a monthly payments?

I have ipad and have same printer tsp100 what i need to make the square app read the printer ?
Got a question im having an issue at my work place money more specifically cashe being short at the end of the day obviously it's not me as I'm trying to solve this issue trying to see if maybe I missed used the register. I click the x a few times a day when a customer needs something else added to thier order after I clicked charge though I haven't selected a cash amount or they haven't payed with thier card yet could that be an issue or is there no way

Very helpful, I just want to know do you have to print receipts when refunding. Most people nowadays go paperless. Also I'm just starting a business and I don't have the printer, would this be a problem ?
Yes, of course you'd need a "starting Bank". Normally a good supply of $1's through $20's. Square will ask you what amount you are starting with. Its pretty easy.
Can't see where you hit "Split" the bill.

Thank you so much for posting this, my mother and I were considering investing in a Square register for our small retail store but there isn't much info. on CZcams or their website about the ins and outs. Quick question, is it costly to use these? As in payments or percentages paid to the company for its use. Would you mind letting me know of any pros and cons about it?
Actually Square is cheaper than most credit card Co. fees- and goes right to your bank. Its been great!
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply- but in case anyone is reading this- square charges 2.75% which isn't bad at all. That assumes you dip or swipe a card and not enter it manually which is more. Make sure you get the chip reader to protect your business from fake card claims (if you swipe a card with a chip you take on the liability if it is stolen or counterfeit ) The funds are in your account within a few days- or can go in immediately if you pay a higher %- buy why? The only drawback we find is the wi-fi requirement which we solved with a simple Verizon Jet Pack.

What receipt printers work with square?

When you refund, you don’t need to type out the amount one more time, it’s there already, even it’s a bit light colored.
When you are paying with cash, how do they get their change? Wouldn't you actually need money on hand for that?? I'm thinking of buying this.

Yes- you can simply enter the numbers manually OR on your laptop / ipad open the square app. We often do that for people paying for left bids after our auction.

The simplest way would be remove the change as Normal and put it in a tip jar or similar. Ok. Not high tech but simple

Yes Rick. Square makes (or offers) a bar code reader that plugs right into the same block that the computer, printer & chip reader plug into.
Why doesn't it display a "Subtotal" line?!?!??
If a customer paid with a card, is the refund processed through the card? Can you do a cash refund on a card transaction?
I know you can refund through the card. Never tried giving back cash from a credit card refund- but then, why would you want to take that chance???
Does the customer always have to sign the screen or can you print a receipt and have them sign that?
Donald Harrison it's best to sign the screen as it'll be on file for square in case of any claims.
Not sure why anyone would object- but I'd have them finger sign the screen

@@garylee4214 I was wondering the same thing. From a servers point of view we bring the bill and receipt to table for them to sign and then adjust the tips. How is that done?

While we have never has a single problem and a bunch of these complaints appear to be related to the internet connection (?), if thats what "connection" refers to- this video and recommendation obviously relates to just our own positive experience with the system and company. Sounds like square best pay attention to this though.

I was scammed by one of their users and Square will not do anything about it. I reported it to Square and they have not responded to me, nor shut the scammer down. I'll never pay anything via Square again. The scammer is still out there and will continue to scam others and Square is doing nothing about it. BEWARE!
Do not use square they will terminate your account for no real reason
Do your own research before signing up
There is thousands of angry customers trying to get there money back
Go online and tipe "square reviews"
Really? We have used them for 2 years for the proceeds of our live auction house and have found them to be excellent. They just made a deposit to our bank on a Sunday. You can sign up for immediate deposit if you are worried. We don't mind waiting a day. I'll let you all know if something changes.
By the way- Square users- we have found that a small book at the register with "emergency" "How to" hints is very helpful to new cashiers or for the unusual situations like "splitting the check". Enjoy
