Creating Cel/Traditional Animation Style Paint Strokes in After Effects

In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to recreate the popular cel animation style paint stroke/splash effect you see in a lot of 2D animations using After Effects, Trapcode 3D Stroke and Trapcode Particular. The workflow I'll demonstrate is super flexible and applicable to achieving a bunch of different cool 2D paint stroke looks for revealing an object, writing on text, or painting on screen.
I just have to say thank you for this and for all of your other tutorials! I've been following your work for awhile, and just being able to look inside the process of another artist is incredibly insightful. Please keep up the amazing work

thank you very much sir. very refreshing to see tutorials with no audio and still understand everything. one question: at 4:14, you are creating a comp by highlighting a composition in the project panel and clicking on the icon. it looks like you are not dragging the comp but maybe it's a recording issue. if you are not dragging, I would like to know the shortcut for this, if you are dragging - BTW as of CC2015 there is a shortcut for creating a comp by highlighting the comp in the project panel and that's Alt+\ in case you did not know.

How did you do at 0:59 ? I can change the interpolation of my keyframes but when i go into the graphic editor, they still have a linear shape :/

really nice visuals .. looked like hand painted ... am i right you can now just change the path and have many of these effects can be triggered easily at once ,, build your special effect render it .. touch it up with interesting painted particles in photohop , slap two glows on it .. bam anime style ultra power
