I use to drive garbage trucks for 8 years. I remember a Chinese couple that died in their home for whatever reason. I myself fought for 6 years to implement a change in policy that if any resident didn’t put their garbage can to the road three weeks in a row we would report it to L.E. I went further to include the mail Carrie’s as well and I was shot down left and right because of laziness!!! This was back in 2006!

That is so heartbreaking. I know a family with an autistic daughter who is in her 30s; their whole life is centered around her. They can't leave her alone. The parents work in shifts (one in the morning / the other does nights) so that one of them is always home with her. Basically, they lost their lives (but they love her). They lost connection with so many friends or family because they can't go to parties, or travel, or just be normal. Sounds like this family and explains why they didn't have a big enough circle to check on them. They kept to themselves. I'm so sorry they were so alone, but I hope they've found peace now

This is why I choose to live in Asia as we can hire affordable live in help. It's the early mornings that are the most difficult as our Autistic son periodically wakes up at 2am or 5am with anxiety. We need at least three people to hold him down during his anxiety attacks. It's manageable for now but most likely impossible once we reach our mid 60s as we'll be physically weak to handle him. This is where live in help of at least two assistants will come in handy. Institutionalization is out of the question as we love our son so much.

I don’t see how this could not be a murder. How would three adults all die without time for one to escape or call police? I should like to know what position the bodies were in. And wouldn’t there be power used (fridge, etc) that would require billing?
Also, check the fridge for something like milk. Generally the date of sale is pretty close to the date of expiration, so the expiration date on the milk, which someone who had access to the house must have brought, would be a good indicator of when this occurred.

But this is definitely super bizarre.
The HOA must have been keeping up with the lawn care as well.
Or maybe if it was a murder suicide as expected the murderer planned ahead and paid up utilities for a year, or made arrangements with companies. Told the HOA they were leaving for a year. Etc etc.

  • @bkisme
    @bkisme Před 2 lety +108

to all the people wondering how something like this could have gone-on for 12-18 months... it is actually surprisingly easy.
To start, when you take out a home loan, all reoccurring house-related expenses generally go through escrow. This includes your mortgage dues, homeowners insurance, property tax, mello roos and HOA (where applicable), and other miscellaneous items. The escrow company handles the divvying-out of these funds; all you need to do is pay the escrow the correct amount on a routine basis. This is easily accomplished through automatic bank transfers. If you set automatic payments with no expiry and never run out of money, this can go on indefinitely.
Next, lawn care in some communities is 100% handled by HOA; irrigation, trimming and all, which as I mentioned before is likely paid through escrow. There is likely a single landscaping company that goes-in on a routine basis and handles all manner of lawn/foliage maintenance.
Next, these look like relatively new houses. They're likely pretty well-sealed and with no windows open there would be very little way for anybody outside to notice any smell.
Finally, the fact that this happened in Irvine corroborates all of the above notes. If you live in Irvine, you probably make a lot of money and have enough sitting in your bank account(s) to pay off your mortgage, but you keep the mortgage up because your interest rate is 2.5% and you like having liquidity. Your time is too valuable for you to worry about manually paying bills, so everything is on autopay. The neighborhood has an HOA with mandatory lawn care because not having a perfect lawn is a major transgression and having a single landscaping company take care of everything ensures that yardwork noise is set to a specific schedule. You don't talk to your neighbors, because a good neighbor in Irvine is an invisible one. Your mail gets saved at the post office indefinitely because USPS is accustomed to people leaving for months or years at a time, likely traveling or living at their 3-4 other residences. Most of it is junk mail anyway; everything important is paperless.
So yeah, interesting news story; Not really surprising though if you understand how Irvine works and how different their reality is from most other people.

It’s very real.. not some.. A lot! Their home is in a wealthy area..,you never what the family relationships are like..when there’s wealth involved. Some relatives only come around when your giving them something and some wealthy people stay to themselves because of the stress of all the people with their hands out. So, the selfish “can I have” relatives get an attitude and won’t even call to say hello, “ do YOU need anything “ .. You just never know.. this is a sad story. Watch the relatives come out of the woodwork now.

Three people can LITERALLY be decomposing in their home for 18 months, and nobody will even bat an eyelash. Even worse than the horror of the deaths of these three people, is the complete disconnect that people have with one another nowadays. I mean, what does that say about our society and culture that something like this can happen?

There are countless videos on CZcams of Good Samaritans going out of their way to help others in danger. Stop being dramatic and claiming no one cares. This specific story is in a rich neighborhood where you can go long periods of time without seeing people. Many homes there are empty because the owners live in other parts of the country for long periods of time.

@@christoffesedao3579 Dramatic? Dude, we're not talking about a few weeks, we're talking about 18 MONTHS where there were dead bodies decomposing inside the house! There were neighbors a few feet away, people who knew the comings and goings of these people, and then suddenly, no one sees them anymore. Yeah,, people really need to mind their own business more than the so already, right? Yeah, I wouldn't be so self absorbed with my own life to at least start asking questions as to why the Smiths we're there one day, and gone the next, while also maybe putting that together with the green mold growing in the pool, and the collection of newspapers in the driveway. But yeah, it's none of my business, right? I've got bills to pay.

Those houses/neighborhood are in the million+ price range, so have a feeling it is paid off. Taxes though can't be automated monthly unless you are a senior 65+ then you can do it in installments, so not sure how that was working out.
Edit: Well looks like it isn't paid off as it says there is still a mortgage amount of a little over a million left on the house according to Zillow. So autopay I assume.

Up to 18 months? This is so sad. So their utilities and phones must have been cut off, there apparently was not mortgage or rent being paid. The parents didn't work? This is scary that 3 people would just cease to exist and nobody was looking for them, no family close enough to raise an alarm before then. Just went back and read the comments about having bills on auto pay. That's definitely a possibility.

Yep. Happened in an apartment complex with a John Doe in I believe his 80's about a year ago where I lived.
Terrifying things is that pest control did rounds a day before and nothing was said or done until the next day.
I could smell it through closed doors and windows from an adjacent building.
Coroner/ME, fire department, law enforcement, private investigators all showed up.
Completely blockaded off that front side of the building. Nosy kids were out trying to figure out what was going on, and I know for a fact that people lived above this man.
Had a buddy who worked at the gas station and one of the responding EMTs happened to come in that day.
They told us he had been there for at least two or three months, and was to a degree of decomp that the John Doe was pretty much just skeletal remains at that point.
Oh, and during the middle of a very humid summer too.
When it's like that? You often have to condemn the area because the decay has seeped in through the floors into the concrete foundation of the building. We watched multiple firefighters and LEOs who were responding come out and walk over to a nearby building to vomit. It was gruesome.
Eventually they got the skeletal remains into a coffin and locked up before purging the apartment.
Yeah, that's still an open apartment to my understanding. Landlords are horrific.

i have autism. having autism doesn't mean you automatically have developmental delays. while i totally get that the son might have been on the spectrum and that could very well have been why he often sat on the swings, the way the reporter put it is very frustrating and insensitive to those who are adults on the spectrum and don't deal with developmental delays. it really irks me to hear rhetoric like this, especially in autism acceptance month.

Don't think the reporter was trying to be insensitive. I have someone in my family who is autistic so I certainly understand why you may feel this way.
