    Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the largest natural gas field discovery in the country's history. But the question remains, how much of this has been exaggerated and to what extent this discovery really is a game changer.

Besides, the USA has an upcoming presidential election, a war in Afghanistan, troops in Syria and the US population is putting pressure on the politicians to end involvement in foreign wars. Besides, the USA needs a neighboring country to allow them to station troops for an invasion.

    If the newfound reserve is smaller than announced, then Turkey most likely will only be able to have an advantage in future talks for a while, maybe a decade or so. But if the gas field is actually bigger than announced, then there could be chance for Turkey to be a big player in the energy market, and huge opportunity to strengthen their position as a key player in the area.
    Either way, the ball is on Turkey's court. Done right, they could get lots of profits from this

    Less than two years on and :
    1- More reserves have been found. Countinous exploration is ongoing with Turkiye now owning 5 of the 9 drilling ships on Earth.
    2- The gas terminal is almost finished and the ship to be laying the pipes in the shallow part of the sea is in port getting ready. 2 months later the deep sea pipe-laying ship will arrive. They might start testing the whole system starting in late 2022. If by 2023 Turkiye starts using that gas in households, it will be a world record for the shortest time ever to build such a huge complex system. It usually takes between 5-10 years and the Black Sea is pretty much like North Atlantic in terms of roughness.

      I was on the land terminal site this week. Undoubtebly the time from discovery to consumption will be at record speed but the gas terminal didn't look nearly done and on site workers are in doubt about the march '23 finalization date.
      Hats off to Turkey for how well they are handling this large project none the less.
      On i side note i wonder if Turkey's new position on the energy market has played a part in Putin's decission to invade Ukraine. The economic value of the Balkan pipe was going to deminish anyway so less to lose there.

    • @omerulger8
      @omerulger8 Před 3 lety

      @@LoveBD153 Erdogan unfortunately is polarizing the country at the moment, by serving the majority rather than the whole. Some of his acts are criticized by the most, even his supporters, however, the weakness of the opposition parties and the fact that Turkish people strongly believe that there is a need for the consistent continuation of the government keeps Erdogan afloat. 2ndly, although the majority of Turkey is Muslim (90 95%) only 35 40% are conservative. Conservative Turks operate differently than Arab or Persian conservatives and the remaining 50 55% of the people are your average Joe's when it comes to religion. They have it as their culture
