I've been at this many years and this has proved to be the most cost effective method of adding both life and uniqueness to your Detolf case. BAM Collectibles Hey quick ? When you set up your detolf did you assemble them on top of your Besta? Or did you build them than put it on top of the besta? And do you recommend I do a small hole a the bottom to work in the LED from the bottom? I know unrelated, but still love the vid great idea!!!😉👍🏻

Displays always look better with a background, your is looking good. I buy cheap posters from eBay & cut them down (if they used often it's the edges that are raggedy & I just trim then off & center the image) I am gonna try different adhesives though as blu tac leaves greasy marks on the posters.
That's a great idea as well man! Wish I could see a pic of your setup to see how that turns out. I won't forget when I first started putting backgrounds in, couldn't believe what a major upgrade and difference it was.

For years I always hated that the bottom cube of a DETOLF felt like the rejection cube where I send a part of my collection that I liked the least. That’s where I got that idea to Put something under to rise it haha! Loved it since, def give it a try if you find something.

I have heard of these breaking but I really like the look do you use any kind of reinforcement for the shelves or do they work well as is?
Hey there! I do not use any reinforcement but I also don't house very heavy items on the shelves. As long as you keep it around 10lbs you're good but any heavier than that and what you risk is the welds for the metal bars that hold the flat glass into place eventually not holding up. I do know there's a reinforcement tool you can use to secure the shelves for heavier weights, I believe it's called a C Clamp. I'll eventually do a video on how to secure them though as that topic is very VERY important for people to be informed about.
@@BAMCollectibles Best thing to do is use the cable clamps under the build in shelf and also to get a 1/2 plexiglass or tempared glass made to be safe. Also others have taken thick metal wire and make an x under the shelf as well.
A bit sad that Ikea doesn't seem to carry these glass cases anymore. I am going to visit my local store tomorrow to see if they have anything comparable, thank you for the inspiration

I would highly recommend picking up some IKEA Detolf then man. I use to collect SHF SW figures but have since moved on just to keep my collection focused and not have my hand in too many pots. My brother collects MP Transformers as well, G1 and Beast Wars. He uses a Detolf with some very nifty backgrounds I made for him for his birthday.
What do you use for your riser to set the Detolfs on? Also have you used any bestas? I have two currently and was debating on adding a background to it.

Well I finally got some good quality images and got them back from uprint. They are AMAZING! Cant thank you enough for this idea ! It is so sick! Wish I could attach a pic on CZcams to show you but I dont think they allow.

I went a step further and incased LED stipps on a piece of flat board and attached to the wall ouside the back of the cabinet so the backgrounds glow as if they have lights in them! Looks so freekin cool. I will let ya know when I upload. Thanks again!

Great video, man. Thanks for the info. I searched the comments and watched the whole video but I did not see any information on how you make the base or floor images once you have the background. For example, in the video at 1:20, you have the photo of the bridge on the left side and the floor image on right side. How do you make the floor images and where do you get them from?
4:30 surprised nobody said this but in general you can roll it up in the opposite direction and it will straighten. Takes a few seconds. Saves you of having to wait hours.

They're mounted on these old IKEA wall mount cubes I got that I know for sure they no longer sell the exact type (Or I would send you a link) but they do sell something similar. Just search "IKEA Kallax Single Cube" to see exactly what I use....but again likely not for sale and you would need to find them online or used. SORRRYYY hope this helps mate

AWESOME!!!! So happy you enjoyed it and found it useful, makes it all worthwhile. I actually don't use Bestas, I use PAX because I enjoy the depth they offer for my statues. That being said I've been contemplating adding backgrounds to those cases but still a but torn because I like the slick black look behind it all. So for now I have that on hold.....BUT I will always keep backgrounds in Detolfs, it just looks to dang good hahaWhat type of things do you collect and display?

Bam, may I ask what lighting you used for each level?
It’s a very cool option I will admit. I did it myself and the results were mixed. I went more for logos a posed to full blown grounds. I would recommend ordering in bulk. I did 8 backgrounds and 8 for grounds. It came out to about $38. Also for the background I would recommend the width 16 x height 15. It can be hard on some detolfs bars to match the dimensions and it give more flush look.

Hey there! Those are old IKEA puck/disc lights. They cast the perfect amount of light on the statues/figures compared to people using LED strips which I think overexposed the collectible.

I really thought about doing this , looks GREAT! do you have strip lights or just the pucks? I bought 2 big rolls but when I started installing it just looked like trash! The only time it would be hidden is at night. Mine looks great with puck lights only. Thanks man , looks awesome!
For Detolfs I'm ALL ABOUT those puck lights bro! I've seen strip lights in them and I personally think it's overkill for that small of a space. Usually the subjects have harsh light on them because it's on a 12"x15" space. Hope it helped and you get a chance to do them! They really do take things so a whole new level when you see it all together (^_^)
@@BAMCollectibles I have 2 Detolfs housing NFL/NCAA mcfarlane figures. I make my own custom bases for them. Im thinking the backgrounds would make them really POP! Arena stands with fans in the seats, Super dome background ( Saints fan), etc. Yea man its gona look bad ass! Thanks brother!

This is a great idea, but how do you search for the floor images? I've been trying to use google for coming up with some ideas but can never find a good one for any of the backgrounds Id like to use

Great video i am allmost done with my can't and I used uprint and they images came out so nice only bad thing is that my order cost was 40.00 and they changed me 53.00 for shipping just for a normal order and the box was huge that this rolled up prints came in , such a waste and could have been put in a tube for much less. Sent them feedback on that.

I just tried and can also confirm the price shot up to $25 after shipping which sucks because I definitely wanted to add some city backdrops for my TMNT. Awesome idea with the magnetic strips though. If I can find a cheaper option one day I’ll definitely do that.
Update: if you use a 3’x1.5’ banner through Staples you can fit 2 of these side by side for $15.99 and pick it up in store to avoid shipping costs. Might try this method out soon so I’ll update this if it works out.
Thanks so much for sharing your findings on this. Last issue I had with staples was they cancelled my orders because I couldn’t verify it was my original content. They some how image searched to find I wasn’t the owner. So that’s when I went to the site shared here.
I hope it works out and hope I just got a bad store or manager that time I tried it. Either way would love to hear and hope it works for you!
what risers are those that your detolfs are on?
Do you lose image quality when you print these out even after getting the highest possible photo from google?

Oh boy, those are like 7 years old and IKEA doesn't sell them anymore. If you search "Wall Cube" or something of that nature you may find some but I can't directly recommend anything since they're out of print these days,

what's considered high resolution?
I would say anything above 1080 should work great for high resolution. If you can get higher that always helps. Ig you search and image under Google, then Image > Image Size > Then select Large or above you should be all set.
Which lights do you use?
Hey hey! I use thin LED Puck Lights for my IKEA Detolf cases and LED Strip lights for my larger cases. I also go with Cool White because it makes everything really keep that natural color. Thanks for asking!
hey, where do you get those wallpapers? i cant find good ones for my dragon ball and one piece statues. especially the ones for the "floor" are hard to find.
All I did was google and sometimes I had to use a little bit of photo shop but most were good as is if I cropped the picture.

Silly question but any tips for actually searching for great backgrounds and foregrounds?
I wish there was a method or rhyme to it all honestly. I usually had to customize ones that I found as well sometimes.
For general ones I’d search stuff like this “Anime forest background, cartoon city background, Death Star interior wallpaper, Pokémon grass theme background”. Eventually I’d get what I wanted.

Hope that’s not coming across as rude, I just know I did and I forget all the details now haha! It’s been years since I got them. You won’t regret it though. One of the things I hated most about Detolf was how you couldn’t appreciate the bottom shelf. Risers solve that so well!
You mentioned ikea wall cube as the base of the cabinet, but Ive checked the wall cube dimension on ikea, it is 13' 3/4 by 13' 3/4 where the dimension for the cabinet is 16 3/4 by 14 3/8. would that be a problem?
Hey man! Unfortunately these were their older versions of cubes they had. I can’t recall the name but I know it’s in one of the comments on the video. Definitely go by the measurement of it all and with that being said not sure they would work.
May help to get a tape measure and take a trip so you can see in person what would and wouldn’t work. Would love to hear a follow up if they do!
Those detolf have custom outer wood casing?
They do not! Just the black version and they’re sitting on some risers I bought from Ikea as well.

Hey there! Unfortunately I do not know if they ship international. I imagine you may have local print shops in Singapore that could possibly do this service? It's pictures printed on material that people use on banners for outside. I hope they're able to get back to you about your quote asap though.
Does the metal frame wobble when you open and close the door? And when arranging the figures? The one I have is pretty old and I got it used but its SO wobbly I cant even open the door without it shaking my figures
Definitely sounds like the integrity of the Detolf has faded. Would recommend replacing it in the near future if your finances will allow for it. I’ve had mine for 6+ years now and I do not experience at all what you described.
Also for figures falling. Look into getting some Blu Tack. It’s a blue non damaging adhesive that will help your figures to balance better. Worked wonders when my kid started walking haha!

If it's wobbly like you say that definitely tells me something has gone wrong though either the previous owner or just naturally exchanging hands to another owner because they're usually very sturdy.

They have sustained my Detolfs for over 8 years now now problem! They're sturdy and made of good quality so no warping of sorts. Thankfully I do NOT live in an area with earthquakes. We had ones years ago but my collectibles are in a basement are so surrounded by concrete mainly, not much happened down there beyond a few figures falling (I collected smaller figures back then.)
Wow! Where did you buy Kyogre and Groudon?
Oh WOW! I sold those a while ago but I got them from Toys R Us before they closed down many years ago. Sorry won't be able to advise where to get them now except checking eBay.

So far I have not had an issues with that. Here's hoping that continues. I use to print these at a local Staples shop until they refused me for that very reason. Best of luck mate!! Definitely report back should you have any issues.

When I first saw him I though the exact same haha!! Too bad they didn't make many other legendary pokemon, would have preferred my original trio birds When I picked them up they were $30 I believe but they're called "Pokemon Monster Collection Groudon/Kyogre" if you want to searched them up on eBay. I did get them from IKEA many years ago. I'm not sure they sell the exact same one BUT if you search IKEA Wall Cube you should get some ideas of other options they offer. They were a great investment because usually the bottom cube in the Detolf suffers because you can't see it, a riser make it all perfectly visible while standing in front of it.Let me know if that works out for you (^_^)/

Man, the cost for a 15/15" is about $25 a piece on Uprinting, not cheap! Great idea, need to find a place to print canvas at a cheaper price point, perhaps Micheal's?
It really increased that high??! You sure all the setting were right correct? I’m printing some soon for myself so I can verify. Mindblown if it really went that high.
If you got it done you’d want it at Staples, they make banners and stuff while Michaels makes art prints. Problem with Staples is they will question you if you own the image or not while Uprint doesn’t.
So I use this uprint sight you spoke of and first he calls me and says files arent good enough so I fix that. Now he tells me that he cant do 15×15 because none of the images I picked and uploaded were square??????? So I have them refunding my 80 bucks. Did you have this issue with this guy or am I actually doing something wrong??? HEEEEELP haha

I’ve never had any issue when ordering them through them before but I do usually send them pretty decently quality images as well as crop them to the correct dimensions so I can’t say I’ve ever had anybody come back at me like that. Are they not willing to work with you at all now?

All good man! You'll need to be sure the original file you're using is a larger size which should help. I'm not a master at computers and graphics either so may need to do a bit of research on that. Best of luck man!

No matter where I look, it's detolf this, ikea that and they don't SHIP here and Amazon wants to rip my beating heart from my chest to pay for their overpriced version. Ugggh I wish there were other options or somewhere someplace offered me an option. I get stuck with normal shelves with no enclosure because I don't want to sell my soul just for a bit of metal and glass. -.-
I will never keep a $3k model in a $60 dollar garbage "display case"
