Tommy’s echoplex intro to Standing In The Rain from Midnight Special - re-created within in the spirit of what the echoplex is about - keeping the focus on Tommy, which is where it belongs - over all the camera work in this original footage is just a standard zoom out and the blue light is not part of the camera work!
Clearly, Tommy had learned to a lot since Don Kirschner‘s Rock Concert was recorded, and instead of the echoplex being chopped off completely - a proper blue light bath was implemented with full lighting going on as the song kicks in, and Tommy’s body language throughout the Midnight Special taping here is far more confident and assertive. But many times that’s going on during really wide shots so at some point we’re gonna go in and create a video that just focuses on Tommy’s most relaxed, cool rock star body language ever seen on video.
