  • In this video, we look at the highly anticipated Breville/Sage Barista Touch Impress. This home espresso machine includes Breville Group's ThermoJet technology for super fast heat up, a NEW burr set from Baratza, a 4" touch display which is quite responsive and has a good resolution, as well as the best steamer I have tried yet (in manual mode anyways). Let us dive into this machine together, to see what Breville Group has come up with! Check below for product links.

    Thanks for watching, comments welcome! I'd like to emphasize here, that while the manual milk frothing is amazing, and easy to use, the automatic milk frothing (one of the main features of this machine) does not make the milk as creamy and silky (see the difference at 10:53). Nevertheless, the automatic milk frothing can produce some pretty good milk, but you need to use trial and error with the can placement and milk froth level. At the end of the day though, I'd recommend trying your hand at the manual steaming, because it's fun, and a skill you can use on other machines, too!
    Let me know if you have any questions about this machine. 🙋🏼‍♂

    Awesome video! I've had mine for about a month now and as with you, my wife loves that she can easily make her favorite drinks without having to really dive into the techniques for pulling a great shot.
    One thing I did learn about this machine. It will dose out about 16g for a double shot espresso or milk drink using the "non-pressurized" basket. Since it doses by sensing the tamper lvl, there is really no adjustment (using the Impress) to increase the dose to about 18g. I enjoy a stronger Americano (long black) and milk drinks so this upset me but I found a work around. I bought the IMS H28 18g-22g basket and since it is deeper, using the Impress I get about 20g in the portafilter. Now I'm happy!!!

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for your feedback! I was actually getting about 18-19 grams in the OEM basket, but it might depend on your bean and roast too. But no matter what, I find the IMS baskets to be the best anyway, so I buy them for each machine I have. I like that you can buy different depth baskets, for larger doses. Cheers!

    • @BruceJamesCobber
      @BruceJamesCobber Před 8 měsíci

      Have you tried grinding your coffee finer? Afaik your shots should at least take 20 seconds when making espresso. If it‘s taking less time you need to grind finer, in which case you‘ll have more grams of coffee in your portafilter

    • @timothyhestand9439
      @timothyhestand9439 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@BruceJamesCobber It takes about 27-32 secs for a double shot at my grind lvl. The shots are great but I like it stronger. After speaking with Breville, there is no adjustment of the weight of grounds in the basket. It only goes by tamper lvl. I solved the problem by getting an IMS H28 18-22g basket. Since it was deeper, it takes more grounds to obtain the correct tamper lvl. It holds about 20g when tamped. Problem solved.

    Hi Tom. Another great review as always. I currently have a DeLonghi Prima Donna soul. It is faulty and out of warranty so am looking to replace it. Prior to having the DeLonghi, I had the Breville Oracle for 5 years. I have been thinking about going back to Breville. Would you recommend this machine or the Oracle? One of the things that I am keen on is making two flat whites at the same time and the Oracle uses a double boiler system, but is much older technology. Thank you for considering the question.

      Hi Wayne, which market are you in? I haven't tried an Oracle yet, but I have done the BDB, and that is a sweet machine. Btw, what's wrong with your Prima Donna Soul? I've been meaning to test one of those, with the adjustable burr grinder.

    I'm so tempted to treat myself to this machine for Christmas. I'm worried in case one part breaks and you're stuck with a big machine. But it would be really disappointing if there wasn't a noticeable improvement in the end result from my current dedica machine, which is better than any cafe bought coffee.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  Před 8 měsíci

      Well this machine is quite a different beast from the Dedica. Tons of options and features, PID controlled, integrated grinder and tamper, way better milk steaming, to name a few. But the Dedica can do quite well with an IMS basket, good beans, and a good grinder. The Touch Impress has the edge however for settable and quite flat PID controlled thermocoil over the Dedica's which has quite a dip in its temp curve.

    @TomsCoffeeCorner hey Tom, great review! After doing extensive research and comparing Breville machines to Philis and DeLongi, I've decided to go with Breville brand. Can't decide between Breville Touch and Touch Impress. Can you tell me what the main difference is other than the automatic temper on the Touch Impress? Also, I get my Mochas at a local coffee shop...is there an option to make a Mocha on either of these two? Thanks in advance!

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Well, the Touch Impress is newer. It has a nicer screen, and a better steam wand. The Impress tamping system is also pretty nice, and it has an updated Baratza burr set in it. For Mocha, we used to first warm up the chocolate sauce in the bottom, then extract a shop onto it, then add the frothed milk, at a coffee shop I worked at. So, I'd select the flat white or cappuccino option, and follow those steps.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  Před 6 měsíci +3

      No, you can make them with the Barista Express or Barista Express Impress as well. This machine mainly offers the advantage of a wizard on the touch screen to help those new to espresso. It also has newer burrs, and a great steam wand. But you can make very tasty drinks with the other machines I've mentioned, too.

    • @jose09841
      @jose09841 Před 2 dny

      I would say the big advantage this machine has over the other machines is the Barratza burrs which grinds beans much finer and creates a better cup of espresso. So yes it makes better drinks and its steam wand is superior to the Barista Express and allows for manual steaming as well. Lastly the machine grinds straight into the portafilter and tamps in the same place and measures the beans based on volumetrics so you will always get a great extraction.

    Hi, I really like your videos! Could you give me your opinion? I am between the express impress, pro and touch impress. I tried tamping twice at a local store demo station and both times it came out tilted. I am completely new and that has been my only experience with making espresso. I have never steamed milk. I have been watching a ton of videos and I want to learn how to pull shots and steam milk manually. I also like the idea of not always having to do it. i see alot of videos with scales, timers etc for pulling shots and think it would be fun to learn but is a little intimidating. So, is the touch impress a good machine to learn on? Looking forward to your recommendations, Thank you!

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi Kelly, I feel like a one on one talk would be the most effective, because there are so many choices. Maybe start with a cheaper machine to learn on before splurging on one with more features. The Pro and Touch Impress steam the best. All make similar espresso. The Impress tamper is nice and convenient and clean. Let me know if you'd like more info. You can reach out at my email or Insta dm if you want. Good luck!

I can dial in a grind perfectly … then find 2 shots later it is way way off. I wind up having to weigh and time every shot and besides it being a lot of work it is very wasteful. I am considering impress express, impress touch and bambino plus machines. I always wanted a super automatic one, but their super watery drinks are so underwhelming. 1. Do u know how much steam/water gets added to the steamed milk of either impress machines?
    2. Can I use dark roast/oily beans in onboard griders?
    Thanks.

      @TomsCoffeeCorner  Před 6 měsíci

      I'd say the Impress Touch infuses the least amount of water of those three, but the Dual Boiler is even much better - super dry steam.
      As for oily beans, I really cannot recommend them in any grinder, as they will gunk up burrs pretty quickly in my experience. But at least all three of the ones you mentioned can be opened and cleaned easily.

      Well, you really out to warm up the PF by pulling a couple of blank shots, regardless of machine. But I still find that a heated brew group edges out one that is not. For example if I dial 170f on the machine the textured milk rarely go hotter than 130f. From my understanding, the pro has the better steam wand with 4 hole compared to 1 on the express impress.
    Also has more grind settings
    Whats pulling me towqards the impress is the tamping. Like i believe thats the biggest problem with my current flow. no matter how hard i try, my tamp is always a bit tilted as i fail to apply pressure on center. There is always a slight incline to my puck. Impresses auto tamping will resolve that.
