Zone wouldn't be OP if 2K made the court a realistic size. There's no reason the 5s court should be so small that you can guard the corner and wing at the same time and consistently get steals if they pass your way.
Facts, running zone makes everything crammy and is just another way to exploit the games weakness. It’s not hard to beat but just annoying to deal with.
Now this I agree with, zone wouldn’t be such a viable strategy if the court wasn’t so damn small lol

Its not the court size. The size of the players themselves is just WAY too big. It makes the court look smaller. Compare the broadcast angle of a irl game to 2k and you'll see what I'm talking about.

If you’re trying to find that fire again look towards fighting games I recommend Tekken 8 sf6 or even MK1 if you haven’t played them before. Was never into fighting games but I tried getting into them like I did with 2K then bam now my favourite games to play I deleted 2k 😂

I took the whole 2K24 cycle off, the game is essentially the DEVS at WAR with the community 100% of time. The greed of 2K and overall instability of the game has played a massive role in the uprise of cheaters Zens etc.
Had the made a good game from the start the cheaters would have nowhere to hide.

When I am bringing the ball up court and hit the left hash... My guy AUTOMATICALLY STARTS GOING TO THE RIM INSTEAD OF GOING TO THE CORNER AND DRIVING BASELINE... LIKE MY CONTROLLER IS TELLING IT TO DO... BUT 2K DOES WHAT IT WANTS

Zone is part of basketball. They do it at the highest level and 2k is a game based off the NBA. If u don't know how to play against a zone then your actually the weakest shit. Me and my squad break zones all the time.

Zone defense in 2k IS for the weak that wanna exploit the game mechanics since the court is so small a zone covers almost the whole offensive side. I have been saying this for years.
I refuse to play zone. I might not be great defender, but I'm not gonna shy away from guarding my matchup. If I die, I die.

I'm a legit PG with good defense, but I don't do Rec or Pro-am anymore. Nobody has time for that cheater trash, toxicity, etc.

I mean if you arent going for a ton of steals, you can get a pretty good PG build. I have a 2 Way Diming 3 Level threat with 93 perimeter and 82 strength at 6’8. I dont go for a ton of steals, just locking up PGs and making them actually be a PG instead of 3 hunting or rim running. A lot of guys dont know how to switch up their style and they either force bad shots or quit. I also built my player to be able to score in multiple ways. 78 DL and 86 DD for good finishing with 75 Post control for bullying smaller guards, 93 Mid 86 3pt for consistent shooting. 89 PA 84 BH and 75 Spd w/ ball gets you most of the good dribble animations and allows you to create at a high level. 75 might seem low, but the versatility makes up for it with your opponent not knowing how to guard you. 93 Perimeter D gets you most Defensive badges on Gold for extra stickyness and gold Challenger to stop 3 hunters. Physicals are 81, 73, 82, 70, and 95. 82 is extremely important as it gives you immovable enforcer on silver to stop drives and on switches in PnR to stop the roll and be able to contest.

True, IRL zones are played by teams that typically lack the ability to guard their man 1-on-1. However, i'm not sure you can apply this methodology to a video game.
Most team playing zones have elite defenders in them while also having strengths that the zone forces them into. Miami is an amazing defensive team and the still ran zone for most of the playoffs because it forces turnovers against teams that are surprised by it. Switching your defensive scheme allows you to throw different looks at the offense

It's a flaw in the player builder where you have to pick and choose to be a defender or score it's damn near impossible to make an all around player that works
I got an all around pg. Perimeter d, middy, 3, pass acc, lay ups, dunks .. y'all must just want to put everything 99 or something.

I’m not defending cheating at all. But the Zens and Titans are because 2K originally ruined the game experience for its users. But it’s just a different way of looking at it
Bro if people were incentivized more for being wide open like older 2ks then people wouldn’t use zens, I feel like they just use them because they want to have fun and not feel like they are clocking in for a 9 to 5 job🤷🏽♂️

How do you play man with HOF brick wall double screen and ja Morant step back with a 96 three ball? You gotta play zone at that point.
Also as far as hiding the PG on defense, the PG for my squad plays up to half the time with a 25 steal and mid 70's perimeter.
Running zone in the rec isn't like running a zone IRL. The way the game is designed...the space between you and the opponent and the time it takes for the catch animations to play out when a pass is coming your way isn't like IRL. IRL a pass can catch you off guard. In 2K you have to be super far away from your opponent for a pass to be a "surprise". A zone can be defeated. However a zone in random rec vs. a zone in squaded rec are two different things. Especially, when you are given an A.I. teammate or people quit out. Or when your Center or the 3 or the 4 can't shoot.
I agree with this. The spacing in 2k doesn't allow to zone to be realistic and have faults. People are guarding 2 to 3 people at a time. That's not basketball
2-3 Zone is very fun to play when it’s done right. I have 94 perimeter and people still get blow by animations on me. I can be in the best position possible and it still happens. So sometimes it’s nice not having to chase people around the whole game. It feels like I’m playing tag half the game because 2k awards people who do the same three moves and rim run. And it’s even worse when you have to guard an off-ball scorer. Be out there running laps on defense😂

It is but when your squad gotta 6’2 guard in the lineup its either let 60 get put on his head or zone that court and make them move the ball lol so it just depends,
If your playing 5spro-am against pure locks then yes u need an all offense PG. But if ur playing rec, park or any other game mode u don’t need it. If ur actually good u can put up elite numbers with good offense & strap up w/ good enough defense. No need for an all offense build. Not even in proam 3s.
They need to go back to the pie build. This wasn’t a problem when we had to work with the pie system for builds
I'm cool with playing man but I love to play zone when I with my Inside Center I get like 3-5 blocks per game. (sometimes 7 blocks per game)

As a passing big with a 92 pass accuracy i be fuccin teams up in random when they run zone against me 🤣🤣its to the point the pg lets me bring the ball up the court in the rec plus i can shoot soo all i do is drag the center out the paint after that its unlimited dimes for me 😂

On old 2ks you couldn’t run zone the characters were smaller and the court was bigger you had to have some kind of defense even the play shots had bronze chase down on. Also this year I feel this game promoted zone defense on accident by making the builder so strict. Just to have a good perimeter and block even with no steal made you sacrifice a bunch of other attributes. And I play helldivers when I’m done with 2k
I agree the post itself isnt good for nba2k24 players but Devs getting gear is very normal.
I didn’t know the goal was to play against the other team the hardest way to lose possible. I might just start losing on purpose at that point

So I'm one of the you got to catch me to stop me or get punished players. Which in the rec I average 35 pts 5 assists and 75% from 3. That said zone is just a weak mindset. However switching on def if you can't guard your man in a one for one setting that I'm cool with.

If I’m with my squad we in zone. If it’s Randoms and theres the usual no communication because no one is on the mic, it’s always going to be man. IQ REC Randoms will switch when necessary without even talking though

Zone defense is OP because of interceptor. Someone will have a high steal then suddenly you can’t complete simple passes. We’re supposed to believe a fully grown professional athlete can’t throw a pass half court.
I mean everyone double teams and switches and EVERYBODY crashes the hoop when someone tries to dunk. But most people play NO defense on Rec, I’d gladly take any sort of defense out these cats

lol he missed the part where he said zone is also the easiest defense to beat. Just have a big that can shoot and stay at top the key and move the ball, its so simple fr. It goes both ways. zone works bc ppl dont wanna move the ball around and work as a team. They wanna spam L2 cancels and murray behind the backs. I play MYTEAM and zone is def not effective bc i move the rock and have open 3s every play

I have no problem with 2-3 zone. What I have a problem with is if you can coordinate a defensive gameplan… of any sort you should be in pro am not rec .
Communicate figure out different ways to challenge the offense. Make the game not feel the same.

Funny thing: I stopped playing Squad Rec bc I didn’t want to PLAY zone defense myself, not bc I didn’t want to PLAY AGAINST it. I played zone for years and it’s such a boring style of play to me.
I play Elden Ring, GTA, basically everything on Game Pass! The games I play not on game pass Cyberpunk 2077, Mafia 3, Witcher 3 etc.
All my pg builds has atleast an 85 perimeter defense I don’t need no steal or play zone lol

I play man a lot but i also play with randoms a lot and am forced to but i play zone sometimes when it makes sense to for example i was on my 6'3 yesterday and my match up was a 6'8 PG with zero shooting on his build but had 97 dunk and 91 layup and 90 strength so it dont make sense for me to guard him and going zone make sense in that situation but since i was with my cousin and 1 friend ee had 2 randoms so we played man and i switch with my friend that was playing Center so i guarded the center with my 6'3 since he could shoot and my Center was able to stay around the paint that guy came in with the worse kinda PG that cant shoot she helped me when the center and PG was in the paint together but if the center post up i guarded the center in the post since im good at post defense and the guard tried to back door every time while the center post up because he was useless out since the paint with zero shooting and im not guarding a 6'8 rim runner that literally just hold R2 and press Square tryna force dunks and layups when i can let the center guard the paint because thats the center job to protect the rim and most teams 5 out and thats the best way to let the center protect the rim is zone
Zone in rec sure, but zone in 3v3 when your opp can shoot decently is beyond me, like damn, why are you here helping us lose 😂
