    This video not only makes it easier but complicates the whole process without explaining what each material is and what it is used for .

    Excellent introductory video. I shall watch the others with interest. Do you have any videos on repairing gilded plaster/gesso frames? There are some on CZcams but very mixed. This is so thorough and professional, thank you. And the voice is wonderful. Only guessed it was Italian and not English by the way she pronounced gesso.

    Do you give quantities for how much glue, water and clay to use please? Can you use a pva glue for size, like Modge Podge for imitation leaves?

    In the video you talk about applying water-based size for indoors and alcohol based size for indoors. Then you suddenly show a picture of oil-based size, but you have not explained why one needs an oil based size, how one mixes it up (amounts) and when this is applied. Would this be for indoors or outdoors and would it be applied before the water or alcohol based size? I would really like to know. And finally, can one varnish the indoor or outdoor gilding? And can this be done with a varnish that is water-repellant so the item can be cleaned with a damp cloth without the gilding turning dull?

      If you use a gesso base, it is not possible to put the frame outside. If you have a metal or plastic base you can use oil size or even water size or alcohol size. Keep in mind that if you use outside an imitation leaf it will oxidate unless you use a very hard varnish, such as auto varnish. Inside it is enough a light varnish such as shellac or other varnishes.

    How is gelatin glue used in water?

    • @silviarinaldin8316
      @silviarinaldin8316 Před 4 lety

      The gelatin you refer to is the rabbit glue. I advise you to look at the video again, in the beginning where we explain how to prepare it with water and the right portions. Then of course it has to be used to prepare the gesso and the bole.

    Does the bole have expiery date?

    • @RINALDINsrl
      @RINALDINsrl  Před 6 lety

      Hallo David,
      Acrylic bole does not have expiring date actually, but it just can become dry. Natural bole instead has rabbit skin glue inside, then it can deteriorate along years. It is advisable then to store it in the dark and in a cold place (not at higher than 20 degrees)

    • @davidmercieca3663
      @davidmercieca3663 Před 6 lety +1

      RINALDIN SRL Thank you for your reply. So it could be that my bole have expired because when I touch the ready bole with gwazzo the bole comes with the brush, do you agree ?

    • @RINALDINsrl
      @RINALDINsrl  Před 6 lety

      Hallo David, yes that is a clear sign that your bole is not good anymore.

  • @thegildersstudiocheltenham33

    Both water and size gilding can be done using both genuine and imitation leaf. On the opening vocals you also mistakenly say that there is no other process between the gesso and application of size.
    This is also misleading and inaccurate as a colour wash is usually applied between these two stages.
    I've been a professional gilder for 30 yrs. just thought you'd like to know.

    • @RINALDINsrl
      @RINALDINsrl  Před 5 lety +3

      What you write is possible but not advisable, as also for traditional systems, under the gold leaf you should prepare the suitable surface so as to be able to burnish it afterwards (proper Water Gilding).
      With Gold Size Gilding instead (which uses gold imitation leaf), this is not possible because the Size is such a glue and therefore it remains soft. If you would burnish it with burnisher, the result will not be good and you would paste the two products.

    Your results aren't nice enough for you to be being rude to professional tradesmen in the comments. Your results are mediocre at best. Actually mediocre was me being nice. Your work is just outright awful. I see why the camera man didn't zoom in.
