  • The West of Doncaster has always been industrial. These days the majority of business is done primarily on large industrial estates, but there was a time that this same area was dominated by the two major practices of mining coal and quarrying limestone.
Whilst the mines have all disappeared, the quarries survive in some small quantity at least and the main road through this next parish, a once heaving metropolis reliant on coal - and another one with town status no less - is a major transportation route for lorries that travel North to the A1 in Warmsworth from the quarries in Stainton.
Don't let that fool you into believing that there's nothing left here anymore though. A through route it may be, but much like other areas we've seen on the channel that have history of mining, the locals here have adapted to life since the 1980s. There are new housing developments, a small park built around the remains of an old brickworks used to create the colliery, and speaking of the colliery, that has been turned into something else too - a wood.
Everywhere you look you see pit history. It is unescapable. I expected that when I came here. What I didn't expect was the sheer number of religious buildings dotted around, and I have said before that churches don't really interest me personally but I know to some they are of great importance. You definitely get your fill here.
There's also a fire station, a range of football clubs based at the Miners Welfare Centre, and perhaps the shining star of the town - the huge recreation ground providing facilities for everyone to enjoy. If all that wasn't enough, the legend of the white greyhound is something I discovered whilst here that I'm sure you guys will like. The number of old buildings here is quite astounding too. Some have been repurposed, some remain the way they were, and yes, some have fallen into disrepair, but above all the community that exists here is still as strong as ever.
Way too much here to film it all, but I hope I've made a good job of presenting you with the town of EDLINGTON.

Needs properly paid jobs in properly run businesses. The middle classes will do all in their power to prevent that ever happening.
