You didn't review this lens at all in terms of optical performance. You just talked about the old version.
The fact is it IS different. How different? I don't know because you didn't say!
The specs are generally identical (Other than size and weight), except one thing. The new lens can focus much closer than the old version. The old version included a close focus diopter that gives it a 1:4 magnification. This new lens has a 1:4 magnification without a diopter. This means there are at least some small optical changes.
I'd really like for you to test this lens against the old version and see what you find.

what you failed to mention is the other two reasons to choose this lens over the pancake...closer focussing without need for attachement filter and recessed elements, no need for lens hood. Still, pretty pricey.

i prefer the old styling personally. more discreet and compact.

I love these reviews but what about the NWO?
I done a comparison with this lens and my nikon 28mm 2.8 ais both were shot wide open using kodak trix400 film and beleive it or not the 28mm blew it out of the water. I was pissed off because myb40mm was my favourite lens for its look, size and focal length

I bought a few years ago from your recommendations a nikon 35mm f2D and its very good, I also bought the AMAZING Voigtlander 58mm 1.4.
Now I am thinking on buying the new Voigtlander Ultron 40mm SL-IIS. Do you think it will be better in terms on image quality, sharpness, color rendition, micro contrast than the Nikon 35mm f2D ?
I got this lens on my nikon fm3a film slr and its the sharpest lens ive used personally and ive owned tbh

Dude! I scored a EX++++ Voigtlander 28mm F2.8 for nikon on Ebay! The only one of 2 that I have seen available this year. Excited to try it with the D750, thanks for the info Ken. Your advice has helped me advance my photography over the past 2 years, thank you!

I love Voigtlander. It’s those lenses, that stabilised monster Leica 24-90 and my small vintage M-mount Leica lenses are driving me towards a Leica SL right now. But those GFX lenses...🤔
Biggest problem is the manual focus! Can you imagine people with large hair, the Australia Gentlemen or channels with that shoot jpeg using it? Probably not. 95% of stuff I do is manual focus. I sometimes do a little action sports at a local race track and I use some autofocus for that.
I use Nikon F3, leica m3 and sony a7iii.... am i crazy?
