Thank you!! I quite liked that hard light effect. It was tricky but fun to edit later. The colors were so distorted from the glare that I felt I had freedom to play with them a bit. :)

I use a custom mode (for me its U2), where I have set up AF-ON to zoom in to 100% for accurate, manual focusing, when not using zone focusing. I found the "zoom in" button to be kind of hard to reach while photographing.

I have a beautiful collection of vintage Nikkor lenses I really don’t want to sell off. Debating buying a Z5 just to shoot them.
Thank you!! Make sure you check they will with it first. The FTZ adapter has a few limitations with older lenses. I'm not too knowledgeable on the details, but I know some lenses may not work like they would on a native F-mount camera.
Interesting video, thank you you two! I wonder why i never used zone-focussing with my Q2, though it has a great summilux-lens with precise focus-gage, should be easy. Will try it, seems great technic for crowded spots where there is not much time to focus & frame.
I also appreciate your consitency Lukasz to realy stay in one interesting spot and wait for a nice subject, and not just walk around. I will try that too, next time i visit and interesting big city (hope my wife does not get angry too soon :-D)
And you realy dont need to think you have to deliver that perfect street photos in every of your videos, its impossible & unnecessary, because it is just about following you through the city, see the way you approache scenes, hear your ideas / concepts, because you rly have a talent as a teacher and thats what makes your channel so special. And Alex, I wonder how you acheive to film Lukasz all the time that perfect without bumping into somebody, especially in that crowded streets.
It should work well on the Q2. I have used the Q a little bit and I think I remember it does have a focusing gauge that appears when you switch the lens to manual focus. I assume the Q2 is the same.
Glad you like that! On video, we walk around a bit more, but when I'm on my own I will easily stay in one spot for a very long time. Lucky for me my wife is also a photographer so she gets it, haha. :)
I'm also glad you feel that way about the photos I take and the teaching. I know most people get this, but some people leave comments telling me the photos are boring. And I have to explain to them that the point is the process, not the result.
And yeah, Axel works very hard and he is the true hero of this channel!
Point taken about lack of DoF scale on (most) current lenses. Fuji cams have DoF gauge in display - not as convenient as on lens, but something.
Yeah, the digital scales are not too bad. :)
Great video. Never used 40mm prime. Thinking about the Voigtlander 40mm f1.2, with the Nikon Z mount. Ever used it? Opinion?
I've never used the f/1.2, only the f/2. I'm sure the bokeh is buttery smooth wide open! :)
Hey Lukasz, have you tried using Focus Peaking on the Z series while using manual focus?
Good question! Yes, I have and I hate it haha. It's waaaay too distracting. I can focus very well without it, so it's just not worth having all those pixels covering the actual scene I'm trying to observe. Turning it on and off is an option I suppose. Maybe I'll try mapping it to one of the function buttons on the front and see how that works for me. :)
Great video! You’re using center weighted metering? I didn’t know then there’s average within the center weighted?
Have you tried the new Nikon 40 f2 S lens ?
Thanks! Yeah, if you go to custom setting B3 you can change the center-weighted to average. And I would love to get my hands on the new 40mm but it's sold out everywhere! :)
Hi, first of all, thankyou for your videos, I like it. One question, do you think that this Voigtlander is sharper than Nikon Z 40mm f2?.
Thank you!! It's hard to say which is sharper. I think the Voigt has more pleasing 3D pop effect (a lightly out of focus background) at around 4 meters from the subject. But I'd say the NIkon is probably a bit sharper and higher quality overall. The Voigt also has this super cool red-ring style lens flair when shot wide open into the sun. I always loved this effect! But the biggest different is that one is AF and the other is MF, so they have to be used completely differently. :)

I have 35 AF-D from Nikon and on Z-camera thru FTZ it behave only manual.I will give it a try but its focus ring is a little bit loose. Probably your Vogits is better in this matter :-)
Yeah, the focus dial is so nicely dampened, though it has become a bit lighter due to years of use. :)
Can you use zone focusing at night, or no due to using fast lenses giving sdof it would be harder?
You can and I do! It's harder but you can still do it even on f/2. :)

Always use viewfinder this kind of situation and never make eye contact after taking shots of strangers, rather look behind them . This strategy always saves me from any kind of unpleasant confrontation from people while I take their pictures. Also I prefer not to get below 50mm while doing so. 85mm is the best for strangers.
I always make eye contact and if people look back I smile and even say hello sometimes haha. :)

Have you ever gotten into trouble for photographing strangers? Sometimes you could argue that they are almost the main subject in the shot.
They are OFTEN the main subject in my shots. I have never had a problem. I am not doing anything wrong, and I would happily explain that to them, but usually people just ignore me. :)

I really like the way you explain your thought process before hitting the shutter button. It makes it much more easy to learn a few compositional tricks. I also really dig the philosophical aspects about photography you mention in some of your videos. It also makes me want to go out and shoot :-)
On another note, I am really close to pulling the trigger on the Z6ii. I've been using the D750 for a while, but the IBIS as well as the improved AF of the Z6ii are really tempting. Did you have any negative experiences using the FTZ adapter? I want to use my old F-mount glass and this uncertainty is pretty much the only thing that is holding me back and this point.
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you appreciate those things! Regarding the Z6II, I have had no issues with the FTZ adapter, but be aware that officially you get a bit less stabilization with F-mount lens (3-axis vs 5-axis with Z-mount). In practice, I never noticed difference. I only found out when someone told me about this. I am also looking forward to the release of FTZII which streamlines the design a bit (they removed the little foot on the bottom of the adapter). But basically, my F-mount lenses work great on it!

I'm sure you get this question a lot, but I want to start photography/videography and want to know if there is a camera that does both decently for a beginner price. thanks so much.
What is a beginner price? I think a Nikon Z5 is a great beginner camera. A more budget camera would be a Nikon Z50, or Zfc if you'd like the flip-out screen.
@@EYExplore Well at this point I'm willing to spend $2000, so I was now thinking that a Sony a7c would fulfill my needs perfectly. Do you have much experience with it? The Nikon z5 does look like an amazing camera too.
@@allen.9 I've not used the Z5 much, but from what I've seen you can use pretty much the same way as a Z6, but with fewer fancy features. I've also used the Z50 a bit and it's, again, just a simpler version of the Z5 (and with a smaller sensor). All I can say is that I am very happy with my camera choices these days. :)

where do you explain how to focus on eyes... ?
I don't because I don't personally care about this feature. I just just use Subject tracking AF, which is accessed from Auto Area AF by pressing OK either on the screen or on the camera. You can also set some of the Fn buttons to access this mode as well. :)
so, in street photo you activate auto area focus af-c and directly subject tracking so it tracks the eye at same time than the subject ?
@@marclabro Yeah, but I don't care about tracking the eye specifically. It just doesn't matter to me. I just track whatever I feel like I want to track. sometimes it's the face, sometimes it's something else. If you want the camera to lock onto the eyes automatically then I don't think you should use Subject Tracking. There is probably a better mode but I don't know because I don't use any other modes.

to be correct - not "sharp", but "in focus". objects in focus may or may not be sharp (guess why).
Sure, you can be pedantic like that, but I think everyone knows what I mean. And I also do mentioned motion blur early in the video. :)
How does the street photography pay you? do you really get paid with this genre? Is it the CZcams videos that earns you money? How can you earn from street photography?

But basically, I do commercial/editorial work which sometimes includes street photography. Also, EYExplore is our company and we provide street photography workshops. CZcams makes very little money and certainly not enough to love off of.

What a bad joke that was -- and unfortunately most not even took into account to think about it !
Maybe -- as bad as it is for street photography to not see the faces at all -- it was at least a good documentary about human stupidity and the consequences of obeying to a system of criminal rules !
So -- what do we have now in Japan ( and in most "civilized western countries " all over the world, and all countries which applied the mandates ! ) -- about 15-20% excess mortality ! And no official media is talking about it !
IT outrageously surpasses everything we had in the time of the "Pandemic" -- and now it is totally fine ....
And whenever this is mentioned, of course it has nothing to do with some mandates, some madness-created genetic experiment , which they wanted everybody to take, which they forced as many as possible to take by whatever totalitarian actions.
What a sick time we are living in here ...
And we are still wanting to take photos...

I'll be honest, I mainly wore a mask to not get yelled at or get into arguments with people. But also, it wasn't thaaaaat bad. Like, we did it, it's over. It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be (like some kind of oppression). It's just a precaution that probably had little effect. I do weep for the kids who had to wear them in schools though for long after it was even remotely necessary. In general though, I do feel that these kinds of things should always be up to the individual. People were wearing masks in Japan long before 2020 and it was not a big deal. Some people just wanna wear one. Some people just wanna shoot with Leica, but I don't judge them hahahahaha (I really mean that as a joke).
