CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After finding out that they killed another man, Alan (Christopher Reeve) asks Mara (Lindsey Haun) and the children why they can't just live in peace.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This film is a remake of the classic 1960 science-fiction thriller, Village of the Damned, which was based on the novel The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham. Veteran horror director John Carpenter is at the helm this time, with Christopher Reeve replacing George Sanders in the starring role. Aliens put the entire village of Midwich to sleep for 24 hours and impregnate many women. Reeve plays Alan Chaffee, the town doctor, whose wife Barbara (Karen Kahn) is one of the women carrying an alien baby. Visiting scientist Dr. Susan Verner (Kristie Alley) is monitoring the situation for the government. She supervises a mass birthing in a barn. The children turn out to be white-haired, glassy-eyed, and telepathic. Their plan is to use their supernatural powers to kill the villagers and help the aliens take over, and only Chaffee and Verner can stop them.

Thank you, Christopher, for making this your last film before your paralysis. You gave one of your best performances here. R.I.P.
"That's a cruel sport". Sacrificed himself here in this film. Good actor. Respect.
Aww 😭😭
_Yeah . . ._ it's not like he had much choice in the matter of making this his last acting role. 'Oh dear, I'm paralyzed . . . better make _Village of the Damned_ my last acting role then!'
I wonder what his movie career would have been like if he wasn’t paralyzed. I bet he would have made some good movies as he got older
I always loved Christopher Reeve's work! His character, Dr. Alan Chaffee sacrificed himself to save a small town, and his character, Superman wasn't all that different!
“Emotion is irrelevant. It is not our nature.” MY FAVORITE LINE!
Same... These kids were awesome in their characters (acting)...
I thought this was a futuristic documentary on post millennials.
@@nihilist4184 bro I am so glad you said POST millennials lol I’m a millennial so lol
The alien life force had no emotion, but David became more human when his future partner was stillborn!
Yes, this is how Zionists think.
I love the way she says ' father!?' What an amazing actress
Lindsey Haun's character was sinister!
lol "Father?" She's so evil and cute.
Love to flick her in the eye.
You mean creepy.
There's NOTHING "cute" about being creepy and evil!
R.I.P. Christopher Reeve
2:53 I love this scene ... How she said "Father" just to manipulating him by his feelings ... I adored Mara, no matter how evil she was ... I guess I am a prisoner of my values, I am too emotionally and I love children ;)
Ha!! Animals rules, they are cuter than little brats from space
@@joaquinumpierrez9940 no need to decide, I can adore animals as well ...
Lindsey Haun played an evil character! The "little brats from space," were creatures of the life force, which was an alien life force!
"Emotion is irrelevant. It is not our nature."
You have said the right thing... Nature... And some will thought that can find people to understanding some nature... How to live with differents habits or nature (for the first time)?
Psychology.
"We are the Borg"
That’s contradictory for them because as soon as they interpret some wrongdoing from humans, they automatically kill them. What happened to exploiting them for their gain? They are a doomed species…
When God created the Earth, he meant for humans, animals, and nature to coexist!
She is a great actress!!

Christopher Reeve was so handsome. And a magnificent actor. May he rest in peace. ♡♡♡
His last film role before his accident..
I really like this conversation. Yes, these children are sociopathic half-alien hybrids, but they're still children. They have a need to protect themselves from danger before everything and everyone else, whether it's justified or not.
It's fear that motivates them into acting the way they do!
I love this scene and this film. That said, if their survival is all that mattered, as telepaths, even if they couldn't conceive the reasons for it, they should have been able to understand the practical upshot of other people's expectations. Were they better at adapting and fitting expectations, they would likely have been able to survive and flourish.
They weren't as "better" as they thought they were!
Mara was making sense in her Statement "Life is Cruelty"
Mara was right. Emotion isn't relevant to survival.
Good luck with your life then my friend.
Mara had a point, but she wasn't entirely right!
You should FEEL!.... You should FEEL something!
It's the truth!
"Without feelings, you're nothing!!" No more can be true about the human race.
I agree, but apparently you can't negotiate with an alien force
"You're just a second-rate mimic of a higher organism. That's right, a higher organism; *we're* your superiors in our capacity to love. Without love, you're a doomed species."
Dr. Alan Chaffee was right about that! He even looked at David, and saw that he wasn't like the others, because his future partner was stillborn!
Most memorable line in this movie. We can apply this to advancing AI that will give off the appearance of having feelings only because it is mimicing us.
Christopher Reeve, may he RIP.
To me, he is Superman in my eyes. Without him, I would never got into comics from marvel to dc comics and other companies. And I would never found other comics like popeye and Flash Gordon
Monster-Child that inspires no empathy: "We're going to replace, then eradicate your species; but you won't do anything about it because of your morals, haha!"
Human: "Stealth bomber go nneeeerrrrrrrrBOOM!"
Then she doesn't understand humans very well because when threatened even the most meek man is capable of horror. In the movie they said kids like them in other nations were eliminated.
The kids in the other nations were eliminated, because they were dangerous!
This is my favourite scene in the film I just saw it tonight for the first time, I found it hilarious that he argued as if it was an adult and he's calm sarcastic demeanor with some of his remarks lol
Mara sounded like an adult, but she was STILL a kid!
@@LisaKoffler She isn't a literal child- she is an alien life form that is without mercy or emotion. There physical forms were still growing, yes, but mentally and intellectually they were more advanced than adults.
Resident Evil Gamer, YES! Mara described themselves as "creatures of the life force," and it's an alien life force!
Christopher Reeve was amazing in this. My dad and him looked alike. I thought my dad was Superman when I was a kid.
In your perspective, he probably was an equivalent, regardless of his appearance. 💗
If you are close with your father, then he is Superman. I lost mine recently.
IF your father was a "Superman," you were extremely lucky!
I've never seen this film before. It's good seeing Chris in better days. His range.
Artisan1979 This was his last film before his accident if I'm not mistaking.
Nicholas Wetzel Yes, his last movie before the accident.
No, Reeve's last film before his accident was "Above Suspicion" where he, ironically or eerily, plays a cop who gets shot and becomes a paraplegic.
Kinda ironic that he played a superior Alien himself in the Superman films and now he has to fight them 😅
they don't have emotions yet they get pretty upset when someone blocks their thoughts from them
Mara asked Dr. Verner why she spoke some thoughts, but not others! I agreed with her that the world would be a noisy place if we said everything we were thinking!
Well because It's comparable to them being computers struggling with a firewall or glitch.
The way she says Father is so creepy.
That's to be expected from someone who's evil!
"Father" look at the eyes of deceit.
She was trying to see his thoughts!
God Bless Christopher Reeves, thank you for all your films you will always be sadly missed RIP.
"YOU SHOULD FEEL!!" I thought he said "YOU FAIL" as a kid lol. Pretty good movie. Super Man would've destroyed these kids easily though.
Nah...superman is a coward, he never kills his enemies because "nooo but its alive i dont want to hurt"
.... sometimes you have to KILL bad guys in order to save innocent lives
Superman is NOT a coward! Christopher Reeve acted like "Superman" in a different way in this movie by using a bomb hidden in a briefcase to destroy 8 of the 9 children! David survived, because he wasn't like the others!
Compassion and empathy aren't the only emotions that exist, Alan.
It is clear The Children feel anxiety and nervousness, that's why they act like monsters without really meaning it.
Explain.
I wouldn't call it Anxiety or Nervousness. If they felt anything it'd be overt caution, with a layer of cold calculated survival instincts. For example, when Mara was a baby, she tortured her mother, simply because her soup was too hot. Even when said mother apologized, she felt the need to hurt her from one of the most minor things. When one of the others accidentally got burned with a corrosive eye drop, the group forced the optometrist to blind her eyes with said chemical. Both while unfair actions on the surface, being an example of said overt caution. They don't feel emotionally hurt from each experience, but through said survival instinct, they logically go to the extreme to ensure it never happens again. The only time they were justified in their actions if not by a little was when people started intentionally hurting them, like the Janitor, The priest and the townspeople. They even stated themselves they don't hate humans, but still will fire the first shot before they could.
@@Shanethefilmmaker In the novel, The Midwich Cuckoos, it's said a few times how anxious are the Children about being killed and we can see too which their emotions are.
Ray , el dios cazador de demonios its not anxiety per say , they’re an alien life form with a linked consciousness which are aware of the failed attempts with the other colonies . It’s more a survival defensive instinct to ensure no threats cause them to die like the others.
@@bdixie3290 "It's more a survival defensive instinct to ensure no threats cause them to die like the others".... yeah, and that is fear and anxiety 😂.
Guys, seriously, read the novel. There all the things are very clear.

The Sizzler Superman learns how to fight their psychic attacks
One alien to another 😁
In a way though wouldn't Superman's very existence on Earth disprove what they are trying to say?
Superman always wears his underwear outside of his pants 😂
"Superman" was upset that his daughter and the others didn't act human!
he was a great leading man for sure and the kids did a fantastic job acting.. Wonderful suspence movie.
What I want to know is how they got so many nine year olds to walk in perfect lines, keep a straight face, or act in unison... That could not have been easy.
Yea, I could see him in this movie . Wow. Didn't know he work there lol I heard this film though
Is been along time .
The only thing I didn't like was 2 girls being cast as boys! I couldn't believe that the producers couldn't find 2 more boys for the movie!
This was a good show the children obviously new the meaning of❤because they protected each other. Eg when the janitor hit one of them in the face with the broom they were just sitting in the classroom not bothering anyone, just because the janitor knew they were not full human. They just wanted to survive.
The drunk janitor hit Mara the Leader's future partner, Robert in the face with his broom! That was his worst mistake, and he ended up paying a terrible price! He deserved punishment, NOT death!
this movie was ahead of its time,
way too underrated! it does have it's flaws, mostly phasing issues and rushed plot lines at times...
but its still a very engaging and fun movie!

@@MrCrystalm8 The way of nature she is right about that, throwing morality and ethics out the door and taking a primal approach solely focused on survival, emotion becomes irrelevant - We are the only beings (That we know of) to experience something different than basic instincts and even have adapted to experience more emotion than any living thing - Sloths and other animals will let their babies die if they fall out of a tree simply because they won't risk losing the energy they don't have in order to increase their chance of survival - Even with humans we one way or another benefit from the consumption of others, to even live is to devour others upon masse, Born into a life of comfort while others are born less so, it's an innate consequence of our birth into society - Religion, Ethics, Morality none of this matters to the Nature surrounding us, we are the only beings close to such ideologies and yet not all of us are, Psychopaths, Apathaps are a few can't experience emotion nor understand it, religion, values and morality is senseless showing us that evolution and Nature has colided. If even humans struggle with the conception of our origin and Milennia of improvement why should another species be expected to do the same?
@@Mithras-jp4jp Well, in the end Mara ended up what she expected. One or the other to survive. In her species it would be the order/ way of things.
@@MrCrystalm8 About how living together wouldn't work. Their powers would make them the more dominant species, people would fear them & would eventually try to eliminate them.
@@ZaneDude oh just the saw the comment now, didn't show up in my notifs lol but yh the only reason they wouldn't be able to co-exist with humans is because of their lack of empathy and emotions which is why he got angry and said they should feel something. Without those emotions like empathy and compassion, the end result is always the same, a species gambling their extinction over dominance, which is wot happened in the movie lol however if they could feel and empathize they would not feel the need to dominate but instead try to help the humans progress and teach their potential, kinda like vulcans on star trek
I love when she says big words/big phrases 4 the kids such as "inevitable, irrelevant, biological obligation, should we pity you empathize with your plite, emotion is irrelevant it is not our nature, your a prisoner of your values, etc."
I love this film. It is one of Carpenter's most underappreciated.
Lindsey is the best, very talented actress✨
She outplayed this guy!
I literally just realized a few weeks ago that she was Hadley in True Blood she is a great actress
From Mara's POV, it's survival of the fittest.
She's the leader of the group, since she's the most dangerous!
I still think David was one of them... I don't fully trust him. Him acting like he had emotion was probably a deceptive method of survival. Like a backup plan to ensure their survival. Just because he can display emotion and imitate it doesn't mean he can actually feel it for real.
I saw a slight smirk at the end of the movie...he played it off very well acting like he was good but nahh I saw right through his cute little evil self.
The scene in the cemetery when he took hold of the doctors hand was supposed to display a genuine emotion. 😊
ANYONE can be deceptive, but in David's case, he wasn't capable of "imitating" emotion, because his future partner was stillborn! As a result, he was grief-stricken, and he walked in the back of the group by himself! David would have been exactly like the others IF his partner lived! At the end of the movie, he was just looking straight ahead thinking, and I thought he looked like he was about to cry, like he did when he saw his future partner's well-preserved alien corpse in Dr. Verner's laboratory!
David trying to be like Damien.... He wishes. 😅
The thing is....they talk about emotion. But they have anger...........?!?! 😲
Not so much anger as a survival instinct. The same contradiction is true of the Pod People in the Body Snatchers films and the viral alien parasites in "The Invasion" based on the same Jack Finney novel reimagined to be a social commentary on the mind-numbing effects of pop psychology(Which was also a theme more effectively explored in the previous 1978 remake),post-911 social tensions and the biological weapon scare of the mid 2000s .
The manner in which they dispatch if other people suggests a certain type of anger and cruelty. The seemed to take revenge on the doctor who had their 10th sibling dissected.
Mara does MOST of the talking, since she's the group's leader! She insisted there wasn't anger or hate, just a survival instinct!
2:48 - 3:01 Is Allan controled by the Children in this moment, or he is just still thinking in the ocean?
Shea O' Walleen I don't know. I think he is thinking: ``I will kill all of you this night, and no one of you can know it guajajaja``.
Still thinking in the ocean.
no. Alan is thinking of his wife Barbara when Mara threatens his life and basically says that he is expendable. he misses his wife and this scene shows not much or I should say not so much regret but also thoughts of suicide his daughter is a weapon and a Mindless automaton and the woman he loved his dead and so many of his people his friends his town are being killed not just by the children but by the thing that calls him father.
Mara indirectly killed her own mother, and her father's mind was being dug into as well!
Lindsey Haun you adore me when you said father the way you did.😊
She's a great actress!
What I don`t understand is if David could be taught to feel, why couldn`t the others?Clearly, the way Mara said "Father" and smiled meant she had the potential.
1.I understand that.
2. In reality, the closest things to collective minds observable tend to involve physical contact and pheromones. In fact, many transhumanists and spiritualists argue that collective consciousness could potentially make us more empathic towards one another, not less. Also,I am on the Autism Spectrum so I understand better than most that empathic capability and empathic expression are separate categories.Indeed, the primary distinction between a psychopath and someone on The Spectrum which sadly are often conflated within mainstream media to this very day lies in the fact that neuroatypicals such as myself have deep empathic capability but reduced or delayed empathic expression due to the disconnect between our higher and lower neuromotor functions.Psychopaths,on the other hand, have no empathic capability but can be very talented at feigning empathic expression.
3.I understand that as well.
I`m a High-Functioning Aspie.
@@phoneguy4637 In fact psychopathy and autism are two totally opposite conditions: autistic people feel emotions, they just don't know how to express them, while psychopaths are very good at feigning emotions but they do not feel them. Thats why neurotypical people are easily manipulated by psychopaths while they tend to reject autistic people as 'freaks' and 'weirdos'.This scene is very good analogy of these differences: Mara is clearly a psychopath, trying to manipulate her 'father' by appealing to his paternal feelings, while David acts like autistic, feeling empathy towards people and rejecting Mara's logic, but not knowing how to express it and stand by David's side.
Let's not forget that they are half alien 👽..... So that may also have something to do with that.
@@phoneguy4637 David has emotions (as the Children in the novel) because Carpenter caught an hypothesis of Zellaby from the book, about how would be the Children if they were more independent.
In the novel there are too a few Children who lost their "partners" thanks to an illness.
1- David's girlfriend died because she is a fail experiment, something get wrong with their genes when she was made.
If you watch the bassement scene, you can see she has an alien look and she's a bit deformed.
2 and 3- In the novel the Children show some emotions in front of humans (they cry when one of them is shooted and they act happily around Zellaby in the last chapter), but it is implied that they preffer to hide them.
They also smile genuinely a few times.

Having no empathy is considered to be "good" in the children's culture on this movie because that way they are able to survive.
Well empathy is a strategy to survive. Those child monsters have nothing to live for.
Good and evil are REAL, just like Heaven and Hell!
Here you are. With the same comment. Again.

Ok We Get It Damn
I'm albino and kids made a lot of joke on me cuz this movie in my childhood
Sorry to hear that, discrimination against albinos is really bad in many parts of the world and media to this day.
Kids can be cruel, because they don't know any better, but it STILL doesn't make the hurt go away!
