  • Mick Mars might be one of the greatest 80’s heavy metal guitarists of all time. He’s in no small part credited for pioneering the hard rock and metal sounds of LA. And believe it or not, Mick was inspired at the age of three to take up guitar by the country music singer Skeeter Bonn.
From that early exposure to music, Mick Mars defined his life with his musical skills until he ultimately helped found the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. But it hasn’t always been good times for the guitarist. From a crippling spinal disorder to substance abuse problems, Mars has faced more than his fair share of life challenges. Let’s take a look at the untold truth of Mötley Crüe’s Mick Mars.

    Couple points to clear up.
Mick Mars urged Tommy and Nicki to accept Vince as the lead singer, we didn't mean to infer that he was the sole reason Vince joined.
Also, We didn't get into the whole Mick Mars birthday controversy. Mars real birthdate is probably 1951, but for years professionally he used 1955 as his birth year. Sorry about those points and we'll be sure to be more clear in the future!

I don't even care much for Crew but I've always liked Mick more than the other ones. Saw them live a few times, last time in 2010 and Mick was the guy carrying the music. For his disease and restricted movement, he actually plays the songs how they sound on the record. A ton of these guys of that era could barely do it then and it's even worse now. I like Jake E Lee and aesthetically he may have fit the girly look of Motley Crew in 86' but Mars was interictal to their success. Would've been a dumb move with Jake probably leaving in a few albums anyway.

I can relate to him in so many ways. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago with ankylosing spondylitis and evidently I've had it for several years. I am already starting to hunch over. The pain is unbearable sometimes and I cannot get one doctor to give me anything for pain so I can see why he turned to drugs. There are some nights when I just lay there and cry until I'm exhausted and I finally fall asleep. I go two and three days without sleeping and finally pass out from exhaustion. I completely understand about the 'opiate crisis'but there are some times when it is just cruel to let someone hurt so bad that they contemplate suicide. Your quality of life is shit and you beg for God to please take you. I have stopped seeing doctors all together because when you try to get help (something for pain) they act like it's coming out of their own stash! My heart goes out to him and I wish him all the best. 🙂

Doctors now are afraid to prescribe them. There's a stigma attached. A few years ago the DEA cracked down on prescribing, prescribers, and pharmacists. I've been on and off them for 20 years myself. If you find a pain management doctor you can trust with your well being, and they can trust you, it's an honest deal you have to make with them. I actually prefer cortisone shots and Prednisone over opiates. But yes there are days to weeks at a time I need pain meds 24/7. But can go just as long not needing anything. Best of luck to you 💜
