I’m sure it was deliberate. He seemed really likable and I think if he was featured even a little, the audience would definitely be rooting for him and be super disappointed when he didn’t make it to the end. Instead he was presented as an obstacle for Foa Foa to overcome.

To your point about Edgic being blown up, I think that Survivor has been trying something since S37 where a bunch of early merge boots get content in the premerge but then the purple contestants really get their airtime ramped up in the endgame, examples being Alison, Aurora, Dean, Erika. I don't even mind that much since it means players like JD and Brad can get a lot of screentime.
I'm inclined to agree. Seems like as of late a lot of the big personalities go out early, so I don't blame for getting mileage out of them while they can. 41 in particular though I do think was going out of their way to hide the winner in a very intentional manner
@@IdoledOut Even Erika's edit was something I was ok with. Compare that to Tommy's edit in 39. We all saw it coming from his very first confessional. It wasn't exactly fun to be proven right at the end.
Season 35 is a great example of this, Simone and Katrina get basically no screentime and Roark and Desi get majorly shafted but by the time we reach the final 8 the audience knows every single player very well
I collect Survivor Buffs and I actually started with Tavua from Game Changers. I couldn't have told you who was on Tavua nor what season it was from. I only just recognized that's what my first buff was when I saw it again on screen. You have made your point!

idk about pointless, because the editors still have to justify the winner's game. Even if it was hard to see, there was at least an opportunity to see Erika's game and understand her moves + why she won.
Note about Survivor 41: I think Survivor may have changed up their editing style completely for this season (following the drop the four keep the one thing). As I watched the season, I noticed that they gave a lot of screen time to people early on that were voted out early. Then as the game goes, they give more screen time to people voted out in the mid game and so forth. Whereas in previous seasons, the earlier you were voted out, the less screen time you received. I think they wanted to flesh out each person's story as the season went and provided a somewhat equal amount of screen time per person instead of just focusing on a handful of end-gamers. Before you dismiss this, hear me out. Premerge: Ua: JD, Brad, Shan got the most screen time. JD/Brad voted out pre-merge, then Shan shortly after. Old survivor would have edited Ricard as the stronger player because he makes the finale and is taken out right before the final immunity challenge as the biggest threat to win the season. Luvu: Sydney, Naseer, Danny got the most screen time. They were the three earliest people voted out from Luvu. Yase: This is where my theory *kinda* falls apart. Xander probably got the most screen time here and he makes final 3. But even then, Evie/Tiffany got more screen time than Liana and they are voted out earlier as well. I think Luvu was considered "Invisible" for two reasons. One, obviously, they never went to tribal. In between the immunity challenge and tribal council, only the losing tribe(s) is shown. Luvu never lost so they were never shown. Two, a lot of the people on that tribe went deep in the game, so Survivor had more time to flesh out the stories. They did not need take precious minutes from the early boots (JD, Brad, etc) and give them to Luvu because Luvu had more minutes later on in the game. Once again, before you dismiss this. Think about a season like China. Who were the memorable people? Amanda, Todd, Courtney, James, JR, Peih-Gee... anyone else? Now think about the memorable people from S41. JD, Brad, Shan, Ricard, Xander, Tiffany, Evie, Liana, Danny, Naseer, Deshawn, Erika, maybe even Sydney? I think Survivor is intentionally trying to "spread the love" instead of only giving screen time to outlier personalities (Coach, Shambo, Debbie, etc) and the end-gamers and instead giving everyone on the cast time to tell their story. Drop the 4, keep the 1.
I honestly would've added Moto from Fiji on this list. Both pre and post swap they got very little meaningful content because they won every immunity challenge and all but one reward.

Pre-Merge Beauty tribe in Cagayan was pretty invisible/not memorable as well. You had the brain tribe blowing everything with Spencer as a solid/sarcastic narrator, which was super entertaining, and you had the Brawn tribe, with Tony's shenanigans, Cliff+Woo palling around, and Lindsay quitting because she wants to beat the shit out of Trish. Then you had the beauty tribe... the player from that tribe that made it the furthest was Jefra.
As someone who spend the pandemic warching Survivor past seasons and even spent time reading summaries of diverse seasons, I didnt remember Tavua was the green tribe of season 34. No joke, when you said Tavua I tought you referred the 3rd tribes of Ghost Island, and then you brought UP Game Changers, wow, that tribes was forgetabul.
I'm AMAZED La Mina didn't make this list, and this is coming from someone who was rooting for Austin when the season aired. They have a soft spot in my heart, but their content can be summed up as "Terry finds the idol, the men team up, everyone starves, the end." There's a reason Terry is the only player from this tribe to be invited back.
Agreed. As forgettable as they are, Nick and Austin are probably the nicest players to ever play and will always have a special place in my heart but they were not compelling tv. Especially compared to Casaya .
The problem with Erika's edit to me isn't that she destroyed edgic it's that we as the viewers don't really see why she won, or why Xander lost. The casual watcher who never saw any exit interviews probably thinks Xander got robbed, and I can understand where they are coming from. I don't mind having a low key winner, heck we had Adam who clearly made mistakes and was never the front runner to win at any point, but at least we see why he wins handily in that F3 whereas we don't really see that with Erika.

It's not like there's never been a weak and undeserving winner before. I don't see why we're supposed to look at every contestant who doesn't get a ton of screentime and assume that some mute inglorious Milton there must rest.

Erika gets talked about through confessionals by others where they say she's a massive threat, yet we don't see why this is the case. Deshawn/Danny wanted to throw a challenge just to allegedly get rid of her (others have said it was to get rid of Syd.) We don't really see hardly anything from her in the merge either, she doesn't make any real blunders or anything, but we don't see her taking the game by the reins either. Erika/Heather were a super tight pair that the editors didn't even bother really developing because they cared more about the Ricard/Shan dynamic. I could still get behind Erika winning making sense if we saw why Deshawn/Xander played badly. We see it with Deshawn, he's shown lacking social awareness in the Danny boot tribal and he isn't strong strategically since he sunk his game by booting Shan too early. Xander? Not so much. He unfairly gets credit for a lot of things when he really was a passenger, most notably the whole fake idol exchange with Liana which was all Tiff's idea but that never made the episode. And then when everyone thinks his social game has finally put him in the majority after the F7 when he saves Ricard, it's actually nobody cares to vote him out because they all realize he's a goat that they can beat in the end. If you look solely at the episodes and not the exit interviews, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think Xander at F6 beats everyone at the end other than Ricard. The editors are entirely responsible for that. There have been "boring" winners before that we still understand why they won. Adam made mistakes but did great at eliminating everyone ahead of him on the threat level. Tommy was a rather boring ish winner who never had an idol nor won individual immunity, but we get a lot of content from him and can understand why he won. Michele wasn't flashy in her win, but those that understand edgic kinda knew she'd win over Aubry. It's unfortunate that Erika got such a bad edit when she's the first female winner since Game Changers.
Laura from Caramoan was legit and the only good part of that season - she was an actual fan and gave good insightful confessionals. Too bad she got screwed by Shamar's medivac
Have you done a video on future theme ideas, tribal makeups, or concept the fans want but will never happen? Ever since they started switching up tribes/themes, I thought a Survivor: No Tribe would happen at some point. An individual game from the start where the first 10 to finish a challenge win immunity and the remaining 8 go to tribal council. At the usual merge, you could have them draw for "tribes" at challenges or assign real tribes for a reversal feel. You'd have to switch between brain and brawn challenges to ensure it's not just beasts at the end, but I could see the gameplay, passing idols to save an ally, throwing a challenge to gain a vote, etc, being a fresh change for a new season concept. 🤷🏻♂️
I definitely agree with the point about trying to hide Erika. Still, it would be a more satisfying surprise if someone with an actual presence we simply didn't expect was the winner. For the future, I'm really hoping the editors find a happy medium where they don't overhype their winners but they still acknowledge their existence a bit more.
I honestly don’t get why Survivor didn’t show Luvu more (especially Erika and Heather). It doesn’t make sense for them to try to hide the winner from Edgic bc that is only a handful of fans. They should be trying to create a narrative that makes sense for most viewers. The entire premise of edgic is based on them knowing the outcome of the season and creating a good story to explain the season to viewers. Hiding half of the end game players just doesn’t make sense from a storytelling perspective.
The I just rewatched 41 and Erika and heather were so invisible I couldn’t believe how badly they were under edited given the fact one of them is the winner and the other was her right hand men who got 4th it’s makes no sense
Jokes on you, I did guess guess Tavua right! I remembered Cirie because she never lost a challenge, Troyzan because of the idol, Zeke and Andrea because they were tight before the **EVENT** that happened next swap, but I had to pause the video for a good 10 minutes to guess the last man and woman and remember which tribe they were all on. I just though of the Malcolm tribal and said "I don't remember Sarah or Ozzy being there so I guess its them?"
Ok so I will put a slight defense for Kama (although most are like paste) Defense 1)they had seen historically that any returning player who gets deep in this game basically lands the win(Sophie only won because Ozzy was out and coach took things tooooo far), it's hard to say when to take them out and I wouldn't have taken out joe so early but we saw in confessionals that Aubrey was trying to get in the driver's seat it's just a shame she was busted by Victoria Defense 2) honestly Victoria is the only reason this tribe didn't get bonked with returning players, she saw through it immediately and orcastrated Aubrey going out (had she not pointed it out I think that Aubrey charms her way into an alliance and goes deep with backup from Joe) the tribe is invisible except for Victoria (who I think could become survivors new Parvati if she plays again) she's brilliantly clever, a challenge beast, someone who can get a really good read on the jury being her back for Heroes vs villains 2, second chancers or all stars and she easily takes the crown
Okay but named another interesting newbie on that tribe outside of Victoria. Gavin, Julia and Erik were white bland rice. And Aurora, Julie and Ron were not compelling.

Kama is a very underrated tribe and were turned invisible because of winning challenges, they were very dysfunctional and had a lot of personality but were outshined by Lesu sucking. I hope Ron, Victoria, Julie, or Aurora play again
This is the reason Samoa is my least favorite season. There'd be a pan to the jury and I didn't know who any of them were. I did a rewatch of many seasons several months ago. I skipped that one.
On my first viewing I loved that season but I see why people wouldn’t like it as it’s the russel show with Shan i on the side everyone else is purpled it’s crazy
Samoa is a God tier season that was ruined by pumping up Russell too hard. Distribute 50 of Russell's confessionals amongst Natalie, Erik , Dave, Laura, and Brett, and you have a top ten, possibly top five season in my opinion
The only person I remembered from Tavua was Cirie and it wasn’t even because of the show, it was literally because she never went to tribal in the pre-merge and on Wikipedia it said she was on a green tribe in Game Changers, that’s it

I think what you said about Luvu is true to a degree(Them wanting to do a better job about hiding their winner) and Production wanting to milk the Ua trainwreck for all it was worth and they also KNEW Ricard and especially Shan would be popular with the audience and assumed JD would too (to which I say when will Jeff stop assuming that just because he likes something doesn't mean we will to and more importantly stop being salty as fuck when he realizes it) EDIT: #1 never mind that said first boot from the tribe is a massive production and fan favorite who they were going to milk as much as they could another thing too about your little theory I am 99.9% they decided s40 would be all winners before casting EOE the season I am also just as certain that whole season was an attempt to get Aubry or Wentworth on it tbf they also would've been happy with David on WAW and at least at the time with Joe, but I say Aubry and Wentwroth because it's no secret that Jeff and Production DON'T Like most female winners (pretty much the only ones I know they like are Tina/Sandra/Parvati/Sarah) and you cannot convince me that they'd bring back Danni fucking Boatright unless they absolutely had too

I consistently enjoyed S41 all fall long, defended it against all the major criticisms it attracted, but once I saw how it ended and what it was building up to, all that goodwill it had earned with me was gone and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Tbh I’m the exact opposite I hated the season until the finale when Erika won. I even rewatched it to see her gameplay shame survivor didn’t give her the edit she deserved because she was really socially dominant. Kinda wish there was more Erika but less Xander lolol

In my opinion, it was an average season that could have been a great season if not for the premerge slog, lack of engaging challenges, 2 stupid twists and advantages for every good one, and the weird editing. Other than that, it had a good cast, some memorable moments, and a winner, who while not my first pick, I didn't actively hate.
On ghost island why is Chelsea invisible she when 2 or more challenges (I haven’t finished the season yet) like always the green tribe in the tribe swap I legit saw NOTHING OF THEM
Chelsea was just quiet but a lot of the Ghost Island cast was shocked by her edit. She eliminated her biggest rival Bradley during the pre merge by getting her tribe to throw a challenge. She also knew who Michael was going to play his idol on during the pre merge and convinced them to vote out Brandon. Not to mention she organized the split vote between Libby and Micheal, getting Micheal to play his idol and send Libby home. She 100% deserved a better edit but the editors themselves decided to give Dominic all the credit for her moves.
Conflicted on Erika she had a good social but it seemed she had powerful advantages that helped her like the hour glass and skipping half of the final 5 immunity challenge and she was purpled for the first half

Agreed. As forgettable as they are, Nick and Austin are probably the nicest players to ever play and will always have a special place in my heart but they were not compelling tv. Especially compared to Casaya .

The problem with Erika's edit to me isn't that she destroyed edgic it's that we as the viewers don't really see why she won, or why Xander lost. The casual watcher who never saw any exit interviews probably thinks Xander got robbed, and I can understand where they are coming from. I don't mind having a low key winner, heck we had Adam who clearly made mistakes and was never the front runner to win at any point, but at least we see why he wins handily in that F3 whereas we don't really see that with Erika.
True. she's quite the mystery. But while it's fashionable to blame editors for such things, isn't it just remotely possible that she simply didn't do anything all that compelling? It's not like there's never been a weak and undeserving winner before. I don't see why we're supposed to look at every contestant who doesn't get a ton of screentime and assume that some mute inglorious Milton there must rest.

Erika gets talked about through confessionals by others where they say she's a massive threat, yet we don't see why this is the case. Deshawn/Danny wanted to throw a challenge just to allegedly get rid of her (others have said it was to get rid of Syd.)
We don't really see hardly anything from her in the merge either, she doesn't make any real blunders or anything, but we don't see her taking the game by the reins either. Erika/Heather were a super tight pair that the editors didn't even bother really developing because they cared more about the Ricard/Shan dynamic.
I could still get behind Erika winning making sense if we saw why Deshawn/Xander played badly. We see it with Deshawn, he's shown lacking social awareness in the Danny boot tribal and he isn't strong strategically since he sunk his game by booting Shan too early. Xander? Not so much. He unfairly gets credit for a lot of things when he really was a passenger, most notably the whole fake idol exchange with Liana which was all Tiff's idea but that never made the episode. And then when everyone thinks his social game has finally put him in the majority after the F7 when he saves Ricard, it's actually nobody cares to vote him out because they all realize he's a goat that they can beat in the end. If you look solely at the episodes and not the exit interviews, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think Xander at F6 beats everyone at the end other than Ricard. The editors are entirely responsible for that.
There have been "boring" winners before that we still understand why they won. Adam made mistakes but did great at eliminating everyone ahead of him on the threat level. Tommy was a rather boring ish winner who never had an idol nor won individual immunity, but we get a lot of content from him and can understand why he won. Michele wasn't flashy in her win, but those that understand edgic kinda knew she'd win over Aubry. It's unfortunate that Erika got such a bad edit when she's the first female winner since Game Changers.
Laura from Caramoan was legit and the only good part of that season - she was an actual fan and gave good insightful confessionals. Too bad she got screwed by Shamar's medivac
Have you done a video on future theme ideas, tribal makeups, or concept the fans want but will never happen? Ever since they started switching up tribes/themes, I thought a Survivor: No Tribe would happen at some point. An individual game from the start where the first 10 to finish a challenge win immunity and the remaining 8 go to tribal council. At the usual merge, you could have them draw for "tribes" at challenges or assign real tribes for a reversal feel. You'd have to switch between brain and brawn challenges to ensure it's not just beasts at the end, but I could see the gameplay, passing idols to save an ally, throwing a challenge to gain a vote, etc, being a fresh change for a new season concept. 🤷🏻♂️
I definitely agree with the point about trying to hide Erika. Still, it would be a more satisfying surprise if someone with an actual presence we simply didn't expect was the winner. For the future, I'm really hoping the editors find a happy medium where they don't overhype their winners but they still acknowledge their existence a bit more.

I honestly don’t get why Survivor didn’t show Luvu more (especially Erika and Heather). It doesn’t make sense for them to try to hide the winner from Edgic bc that is only a handful of fans. They should be trying to create a narrative that makes sense for most viewers. The entire premise of edgic is based on them knowing the outcome of the season and creating a good story to explain the season to viewers. Hiding half of the end game players just doesn’t make sense from a storytelling perspective.

Jokes on you, I did guess guess Tavua right! I remembered Cirie because she never lost a challenge, Troyzan because of the idol, Zeke and Andrea because they were tight before the **EVENT** that happened next swap, but I had to pause the video for a good 10 minutes to guess the last man and woman and remember which tribe they were all on. I just though of the Malcolm tribal and said "I don't remember Sarah or Ozzy being there so I guess its them?"

Ok so I will put a slight defense for Kama (although most are like paste)
Defense 1)they had seen historically that any returning player who gets deep in this game basically lands the win(Sophie only won because Ozzy was out and coach took things tooooo far), it's hard to say when to take them out and I wouldn't have taken out joe so early but we saw in confessionals that Aubrey was trying to get in the driver's seat it's just a shame she was busted by Victoria
Defense 2) honestly Victoria is the only reason this tribe didn't get bonked with returning players, she saw through it immediately and orcastrated Aubrey going out (had she not pointed it out I think that Aubrey charms her way into an alliance and goes deep with backup from Joe) the tribe is invisible except for Victoria (who I think could become survivors new Parvati if she plays again) she's brilliantly clever, a challenge beast, someone who can get a really good read on the jury being her back for Heroes vs villains 2, second chancers or all stars and she easily takes the crown
Okay but named another interesting newbie on that tribe outside of Victoria. Gavin, Julia and Erik were white bland rice. And Aurora, Julie and Ron were not compelling.
Totally agree, I think Victoria would kill any returnee season. Very underrated player!

Kama is a very underrated tribe and were turned invisible because of winning challenges, they were very dysfunctional and had a lot of personality but were outshined by Lesu sucking. I hope Ron, Victoria, Julie, or Aurora play again
I loved the original fans tribe, it’s one of the big reasons why Micronesia is my favorite season

This is the reason Samoa is my least favorite season. There'd be a pan to the jury and I didn't know who any of them were.
I did a rewatch of many seasons several months ago. I skipped that one.
On my first viewing I loved that season but I see why people wouldn’t like it as it’s the russel show with Shan i on the side everyone else is purpled it’s crazy
Samoa is a God tier season that was ruined by pumping up Russell too hard. Distribute 50 of Russell's confessionals amongst Natalie, Erik , Dave, Laura, and Brett, and you have a top ten, possibly top five season in my opinion

I think what you said about Luvu is true to a degree(Them wanting to do a better job about hiding their winner) and Production wanting to milk the Ua trainwreck for all it was worth and they also KNEW Ricard and especially Shan would be popular with the audience and assumed JD would too (to which I say when will Jeff stop assuming that just because he likes something doesn't mean we will to and more importantly stop being salty as fuck when he realizes it)
EDIT: #1 never mind that said first boot from the tribe is a massive production and fan favorite who they were going to milk as much as they could another thing too about your little theory I am 99.9% they decided s40 would be all winners before casting EOE the season I am also just as certain that whole season was an attempt to get Aubry or Wentworth on it tbf they also would've been happy with David on WAW and at least at the time with Joe, but I say Aubry and Wentwroth because it's no secret that Jeff and Production DON'T Like most female winners (pretty much the only ones I know they like are Tina/Sandra/Parvati/Sarah) and you cannot convince me that they'd bring back Danni fucking Boatright unless they absolutely had too

I consistently enjoyed S41 all fall long, defended it against all the major criticisms it attracted, but once I saw how it ended and what it was building up to, all that goodwill it had earned with me was gone and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Tbh I’m the exact opposite I hated the season until the finale when Erika won. I even rewatched it to see her gameplay shame survivor didn’t give her the edit she deserved because she was really socially dominant. Kinda wish there was more Erika but less Xander lolol

In my opinion, it was an average season that could have been a great season if not for the premerge slog, lack of engaging challenges, 2 stupid twists and advantages for every good one, and the weird editing. Other than that, it had a good cast, some memorable moments, and a winner, who while not my first pick, I didn't actively hate.
Post-swap Kama is basically just ore-swap Kama, just without Aubry, Victoria, Eric, and Gavin; AKA the only interesting players on original Kama.

Chelsea was just quiet but a lot of the Ghost Island cast was shocked by her edit. She eliminated her biggest rival Bradley during the pre merge by getting her tribe to throw a challenge. She also knew who Michael was going to play his idol on during the pre merge and convinced them to vote out Brandon. Not to mention she organized the split vote between Libby and Micheal, getting Micheal to play his idol and send Libby home. She 100% deserved a better edit but the editors themselves decided to give Dominic all the credit for her moves.

I didn't really think the show did a good job of depicting her as either in the edit. So it felt a little bit forced in my opinion.
Conflicted on Erika she had a good social but it seemed she had powerful advantages that helped her like the hour glass and skipping half of the final 5 immunity challenge and she was purpled for the first half
