Thanks Jevin. Agree the DJI is ahead now, so Rhode is undoubtedly working on their answer. Its like n new camera bodies, everyone is leapfrogging each other. Both sound great and can be adjusted in post. Nice to have options. Curtis Judd uncovered a firmware issue and is working with them to fix it. He typically goes very deep into audio gear. Great review.

Thanks for the comparison tips. Very thoughtful points from an ease of use perspective, which does matter more to me than a tiny fraction of sound difference. Actually, that Noise Reduction is worth more than a few degrees of sound quality difference. The Rode users who love that sound quality will still have to get rid of the noise in post edit- so a little tweak of EQ at the same time is a big deal? And, if in a studio, a person who values higher quality $1,000 sound is likely not using a wireless mic anyway. That's why, to me, a feature like the NR on a wireless remote mic can be worth a small amount of sound quality.

Sucky thing is that the wind reduction/noise canceling does not work when the Mic 2 is connected via Bluetooth to a smartphone. I believe that's because smartphones do not have such a feature built-in. I have paired the Mic 2 tx to my Insta360 X3 (which has Wind Reduction for even the built-in mics) and got it to work that way. So the only way to get noise Reduction when using a smartphone is to use the Mic Rx

  • @HardIsEasy
    @HardIsEasy Před 6 měsíci +3

Let me play devils advocate - I agree with others Rode sounds cleaner.
For noice cancelling most editing softwares can do that on the fly with you in control instead of baked in.
Changing the volume is also kinda not too much use since you set it once and forget.
Taking one case out of another case and then taking the mics out is not that much better:D
Looks like you're picking up on features that don't really make it that much better of a mic =]
I like that DJI mics are smaller but that also reduces the total battery life to 6h vs DJI 7h - although I tested DJI transmitters without connecting them to the receiver and it lasted for 8h. which is nice for full date shoot - I would actually wish even more :D
And to be clear I had horrible experiences with past Rode wireless mics so I'm not a fanboy o them.
But still decided to try the Pros and one feature I love is that it can start recording on the tx once you take it out of the case - that is a very nifty timesaver for me :)

I prefer the receiver ergonomics from the DJI, but I find that the Rode sounds much better. I also find the DJI noise canceling makes the sound, sound, well somewhat artificial, well, even less good. But then again, I agree with you on the shape of the DJI mics, it’s much more pleasing than the larger Rode square shape. I prefer the Rode box which offers a direct data connection to the two mics.
Damn, can’t they both work together and deliver us a set of mics which bring us the best of both worlds 😂

  •  Před 5 měsíci

honestly? I have the DJI MIC2 however this noise canceling stuff sounds awful, If I don't want noise I don't go to noisy places :D RODE has better sound but the extra software makes it a nogo for me. like the smaller size of the DJI. love the display of the DJI more, the luv's would be great to get in the pack from DJI too. all in all great video, love the jeep!

The lavs are pretty good and the sound is better all round. Ive had multiple dropouts with the Mark1 DJI when Im using a lav and the transmitter is on the talents hip only a few meters away. I dont see the transmission being any better on the Mark 2 from all the reviews. If you dont care about a big ugly mic on your neck then the DJI is worth considering as its definitely smaller and less obvious then the Rode. It needs plenty of eq though.

Counting down the days until I get my second Alucab setup! Stoked for you dude!
To everyone else, Rode sounds better but cuts out a LOT in my experience. The Pro seems to cut out more than my Rode Wireless 2 did. Good thing is has backup recording, because I find myself doing that an awful lot. And I’m talking from like 20 feet away, in a forest with no solid objects between myself and the receiver.
My Dji units should be here today and from reviews they seem to work better with some range. Comments on Dji reviews for the range tests are “who’s going to film that far away though?”. The real point is that if it can keep a signal at 800 feet, then from 200 feet it should be solid. A good lav mic will make them sound just as good as the Rode in most situations. My plan is to use the Dji set when driving to cut out trail noise that I’m always fighting in my videos. Also, the screen on the side vs the top is very useful. I’ll keep both sets so I can mic up buddies in their vehicles, as I’m usually the only guy with a camera.
Both have their pros and cons, but I am very much looking forward to the DJI set for the advantages it offers in certain scenarios.
    Thanks for your reviews, Jeven.

I’ve completely given up on the mic l and the mic ll and gone to the Tentacle system. No need for airwaves and no limit on recording time. You can also use the time code module to time code, cameras that don’t have that ability. I stopped watching after 4 minutes cause the noise cancelling...sounds terrible. Rode is the best sound quality for me and clearly the best in this test. Thanks for the comparison Jeven Dovey, I go for the Rode Wireless Pro.

The fact that this video is sponsored by DJI already says it all. Ahahah
The sound from DJI can't even stand next to RODE PRO. If you don't hear it, once for you. But my choice is RODE.

The DJI's case is actually bigger than the Rode's because the wind screens and cable don't fit in the charger case. The actual case for the DJI is the larger black one. The Rode sounds better, point blank period. I bought the DJI and heavily considering returning it. The only reason I got it was for bluetooth. I hate that the DJI didn't come with lavaliers so for another $80 I can have the two DJI lavaliers at which point, the kit is more expensive than the Rode for lower quality audio. Plus I'm seeing videos of people having mismatching audio from their transmitters. Do you have that issue? I will be testing mine today.

Thanks for doing these videos! I prefer the ease of use from the DJI but they do not sound as good and don't come with lavs! Ugh, frustrating! But honestly I think my biggest frustration is the way you say "accessories"...lol just kidding brother thanks for all you do!

Sorry the rode sounds better hands down no contest, it’s literally night and day different. On its own the DJI might not sound to bad, but compared to the rode they sounds utterly terrible!. I’ve listened to the video through my tv sound bar and my Sony MDR 7506 studio headphones and the end result was the same. The most important thing for microphones is obviously sound quality not all the fancy touch screens etc for me personally at least!. My findings are echoed by hundreds of comments across multiple creators videos!. Unfortunately the new DJI mics are dreadful.
