Mark reminds me of Gerald Undone in that he does a lot of no fluff info in a relatively short time, and adds in some real world outdoor tests which Gerald doesn't often do. Compared to many other CZcams creators who try to provide more entertainment style, incorporate other guests in their videos, etc. but that's often not what I'm looking for. I just want to hear about the product and it's features quickly and concisely to get any questions I may have answered and see/hear it in action.

Interesting timing! I chanced across a second-hand Rode Wireless Go two weeks ago for a decent value less than new (ironically less than a week after I bought a Rode Lavalier Go). And I love it! Hey Mark! You are of the best, not the rest! I'm confused about something. I have the wireless go II and when used with the camera, once they are turned on they start recording for 31 minutes, so they don't do different internal audio clips every time you record a video with the camera. I think, if I remember well, that the dji mic 2 does do different internal audio clips for each video you record with the Osmo pocket 3. My question is, does the RODE Wireless PRO do different internal clips for each time you press record on the camera or is it still a long audio clip and that's why time code sync exists? And if so, is there a quick button to stop recording every time or is it like the wireless go II, that you haver to long press to turn them off to stop the recording? Thank you!

2)thank you for this review and I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. I really like the Lark Max and was gonna recommend it to my boss when we buy mics next but DJI just knocked it out of the park with the bluetooth connectivity.

Another slam dunk video Mark! I actually much prefer the sound of the Rode in this video (and every other video where it's directly compared to other brands). However, if DJI threw in a lav mic and kept the same price point, they'd completely dominate this category in value

    • @arjuntao
      @arjuntao Před 6 měsíci +2

Totally agree. I waited for the dji release today and in all honesty very disappointed. The noise cancelling quality is not good enough, the lack of lavs is disappointing at this price range, the overall quality of the audio is subpar to rode wireless pro. I really wanted to get the DJI Mic 2. In fact I ordered them today. I then watched a bunch of comparison videos, cancelled the order and got the rode. As well as all the above, the time code and overall internal storage and slightly better battery life made the rode wireless pro unbeatable for me. As a brand I actually love and prefer DJI. But I still couldn’t justify buying the dji mic 2 over the rode wireless pro 😢

Great video. I had two questions. When connecting the dji mic 2 to iPhone via bluetooth is the audio automatically synced to the video on your clips or do you need to sync it in post. Also I have found bluetooth to be really finicky over the years so if it's giving you hell at connecting for a shoot can you still plug the dji mic 2 receiver directly into the lightning port on your iPhone? Thanks for the info.

Just wish they would update the firmware for Bluetooth protocol in action 3 like they did with action 4. For DJI mic 2. OA3 is not such an old product but they still allow other product to connect outside of DJI. I would totally buy the new mic’s to have a truly wireless mic system. It’s how they get ya I guess. My action 3 is just fine, don’t need the 4. I’ll just use my Ulanzi am18 not purchasing dji mic2 at this time just for that reason. Mark… your channel is still the best. Keep on bringin’ it buddy.

I am writting my consolusion after a very tough comparsion of the 2 mics regarding sound quality!
DJI MIC 2 Firmware version: v04.02.01.13
Røde Mic 2 Firmware version: 1.2.8
    1) Using Røde Lav II mic on both units (DJI Mic 2 , Røde Wireless Pro) :
-- Noise Cancellation off , No Low cut filter :
Simple! They both almost identical. You will never beleive it. You can't prefer one other the second. They might sound different if you compare them using 2 different LAVs which is not fair.
    -- Noise Cancellation On (DJI MIC2) :
    Røde Wins 100%.
    2) NO LAV on both , RAW audio, No DeadCat wind shield. Both clipped equally on the top of my shirt:
Røde : Better sound quality! Way better than the DJI Mic 2. Of course it depends on your voice and how much is the difference for your voice, but in General from audio samples from others as well, I found the Røde sound quality is more pure and native and fuller
So, Finally: in case you will be using both with LAV, I think you are good to go with the one you prefer more.
    - if you care about the nice design and the very handy touch screen and compact case, DJI Mic 2 is the winner.
    - If you care about the noise reduction, then DJI is the clear winner.
    - If you are going to be hybrid between LAV and without, then the clear winner is the Røde.
    - If you are going to use it for street interviews, Røde is the winner again.
If you have any questions, Let me know! :)

Hi Marc, thank you for all the info.
To avoid bad surprises for people which think to buy this DJI Mic2 Set, here is my experience:
1.First surprise for owners of the Pocket3 with one Mic, you are not able to buy this set with only 1 Mic and charging case. Very user-friendly from DJI.
    2. I was told you can adjust the Mic 2 only with the receiver, that's why I got the full set. You can adjust the levels with the receiver, but as soon as you pair it with the Pocket3 or the Insta360X3 the settings are not working. Specially with the Insta360 you get easily distortion.
    3. You can't use the internal recording 32bit float if you connect the mic via Bluetooth to the Pocket3 or the Insta360.
Is this possible with the Rode?
    4. Action4 issue, You can connect 1 mic, but not two, as with the Pocket3.

Great review. I guess if you're recording to the DJI Mic 2 internally and recording scratch audio from the camera it would be easy to sync in post. I don't see Rode's TC implementation especially useful because the Rode Pro CAN'T receive TC. So if you're shooting multi-cam, every other TC device needs to jam with the Rode. You might have a much better TC generator like the Deity TC-1 but it would need to jam sync to the Rode, not the other way round.

you can jam timecode into the pocket 3 of you have time code setup. so if you had something like a tentacle sync or a Deity time code device, you can make all your devices work on the same clock. if you’re sending the Bluetooth audio to the pocket 3, that audio would stay with the pocket 3 video

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for your input Mark… this is what I was picturing. I have 5 Track Es and 5 Sync Es and an Instamic Pro Plus for Weddings and Events. I wanted the Mic 2 for my personal carry but also use it as backup catch audio along with the Pocket 3 as a safety angle. The 32 Bit Float local will just be a backup to the backup 😅🎤
I’ll definitely dig more into this.

    • @cppguy16
      @cppguy16 Před 6 měsíci

You're good. The mic alone can be used as an external recorder, and it captures in float. Once the signal reaches the receiver and the camera, it's not float anymore. The receiver just mixes the two inputs and adds that audio to the video file as a convenience and backup. When you're using the mic alone, you have to sync the audio to the video, but there's no other way of recording float anyway with these devices.

I have to take issue with your comment that you sacrifice quality using a lav over the built in mic. If you use a quality lav (in my case I use a Countryman), it will always be superior to the built in mic. I also agree with others that the Rode sounds better.

About peaking at mic level: DJI Mic2 has a SPL of 120dB,while Rode wireless Pro’s SPL is 123.5 dB. If these specs are accurate, you are easier to peak the DJI Mic 2.

Thanks for the review! I preffer the sound without the NC, it really sounds bad, muffled, metallic, digital, all sorts of bad. The logo is too much, the shiny case is annoying, the dead cat should be black... Bluetooth & 32 bit float are really nice, but for the price i'd rather go with something else. I like the sound of the rode wireless pro a lot more, damnit the perfect one for me hasn't been produced yet...
