      @Andrea Mendenhall true Andrea...but to be aiming for Vice President and possibly becoming President of one of the most powerful countries in the world, you have to be prepared to be interviewed. It’s not that anyone is trying to put her down. As others have stated, she was simply out of her depth.

      @@anonnon4737 She was running against Obama at the time McCain picked his VP. Am I wrong? So he didn't know if she'd win. This is why his people told him to pick a female VP. Sadly, he picked someone he hardly knew.

    • @anonnon4737
      @anonnon4737 Před 2 lety

      @@OntarioAndrews415 Obama won enough primaries and secured enough superdelegates by June 3rd, to win the nomination, four days later Hillary conceded that she lost. On August 23, Obama announced Joe Biden as his running mate. John McCain announced that Sarah Palin would be his running mate on August 29th. So Katie Couric's comment that McCain figured any woman would do to combat Hillary is disingenuous as Hillary was never on the ticket, and Obama had already announced Biden as his VP. Also anyone in the know knew Obama would never picked Clinton, as there was so much bad blood between them. Clinton's team started the birther business with Obama. You'll find fake fact checking stating this is false, but I will give you the names. Clinton staffer Sidney Blumenthal went to the offices of a media outlet called McClatchy in DC and met with McClatchy's editor James Asher and encouraged McClatchy to pursue stories on Obama's connection to Kenya. Other McClatchy staff such as Shashank Bengali were aware of what the Clinton campaign was asking them to do.
      McCain picked Palin because he wasn't polling well with young people and women, and he hoped Palin would help him with both. Similarly Obama was polling poorly in the southern states, especially with whites and he hoped that Biden would help him.

    • @OntarioAndrews415
      @OntarioAndrews415 Před 2 lety

      @@anonnon4737 Okay, but Clinton did a good job and McCain recognized that so he figured (I think mostly his advisors) that going with a woman VP was the way to go, which is fine in itself. However, he picked a nut case who he said he only met a hand full of times.

    • @anonnon4737
      @anonnon4737 Před 2 lety

      @@OntarioAndrews415 Clinton did a good job? As Senator she convinced Democrats to go to war in Iraq, which was the wrong call and an utter disaster. As First Lady, Bill put her in charge of creating and drumming up support for a universal healthcare plan and even Democrats said she rubbed people the wrong way and was difficult to work with and as you know Congress rejected the plan. Even the American public preferred Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.
      McCain picked Sarah Palin because he needed youth on the ticket and someone who could pick up the youth vote and the women vote. Palin was out of her depth, inexperienced, and not smart enough for the role, but she wasn't a nutcase. Marjorie Taylor Greene is a nutcase. Lauren Boebert is a nutcase.

    As Steve Schmidt offers Palin-like vagueness about John Edwards' weaknesses relative to Palin, Katie Couric's disbelieving smile-and-nod at 8:47 is terrific, but Schmidt's weary gaze at Couric speaks volume as he anxiously wonders if she will ask, not to belabor the point, for one specific point. Kouric's final polite smile back at Schmidt (8:51) is priceless: as if saying, "That's the best you can do?". At least he admitted, in so many words, "Mistakes were made".

    To this day, I blame Palin as a VP pick with the anti-media/liberal media mantra and accepting ignorant candidates in American politics. It wasn't that Palin had a disastrous interview with Couric, it was her supporters damage control of it. Instead of calling out for what it was, they blamed it on "gotcha" questions and that Couric was the problem. Now every time there's news that shines a GOP member in a bad light, they blame the liberal media.

    During the campaign I was hoping that the Terminator would appear from the future and do his 'thing' to Palin.
    She made the road for dum dum Trump so much easier.....she softened up the Republican voter who had a brain.

    I vote Republican and was actually one of the people who was infamously unfairly interviewed by Couric for the "Under the Gun" documentary, BUT I agree with Couric and MSNBC on this! Palin was clearly out of her league here and not a reasonable choice of running mate.

    Your past should not prevent you from improving yourself.
    The question now is, has Sarah Palin been reading since then? The national embarrassment that she had created should have inspired and propelled her to improve herself drastically, if only for her sake.

    Well, speaking of unfit, some of the senators that questioned Judge Jackson seem to me to be completely unfit to be in Congress, one wonders how people whose aims are to degrade, whose racist attitudes and ignorance about the law seem boundless, were able to get elected. Citizens need courses in civics, starting early in school, in my opinion, Junior high and onwards.

    They actually took Palin shopping and got her clothes, shoes, a haircut and makeup to make her more presentable to the public after she was picked. All that “lipstick on a pig” as she loved to say, and she was still a train wreck. Too bad they forgot to ask her if she reads a newspaper! Unbelievable!!

      They would have done better to get Sarah to read more or pick a candidate that was more involved at that level. She was not on their level but Katie could have expounded on the Bush Doctrine and then let the woman give her thoughts. McCain didn’t want a strong VP to be seen as a threat.
