Doom II OST - Map 09 - Into Sandy's City

- Bobby Prince: "When I was composing the songs for DOOM, I did not get to see any finished levels. In the case of DOOM II, there were some levels that changed very little from the very early days of development. One of these was what I called "Sandy's City" because it was a level designed by Sandy Peterson. Everyone loved playing that level and I decided that I had to write a song that sounded sorta "city-like." This song was the result. Originally I had a piano playing the part that the harpsichord is playing but no one at id liked the idea of a piano in any of the music. As a joke, I changed the patch to the harpsichord. I expected everyone to voice opposition, but everyone seemed to like it -- so, I left it in!
Sandy's City level made it into DOOM II, but there were several changes (made to raise the frame rate, I think). To me, the changes made the level less fun to play (but it's still a great level, especially for deathmatch)".

Apparently he was going to do this in piano and everyone else said no. So he did harpsichord as a joke, and it turned out brilliantly.
Bobby Prince trolling the id Boys by using a Harpsichord and accidentally making the best song in Doom 2 is an iconic moment.
mood.
This isn't piano
Well at least at the start i mean
@@zanclawpyro well spotted!
Chilling in the Fortress of Doom with this on vinyl, the music of a true slayer
Same here bro
i can't leave my fortress because of this track
The only problem is that the music is too quiet. Turn that shit up, I wanna kill my eardrums!

vinyl is to hipster for doomish places.
This is one of the best songs in the DooM series
What's your favorite then? ;)

nah dude, e2m3
I remember back in 1995 I used to turn on DooM just to hear the music while I did College Homework. God, this game seriously rocked my life...
Sounds like a whole Fucin montage
Epic
So close to 666
@@SlavicDoom its 666 now
This makes me sad to have been born in 1995.
I only got in to the doom series around 2010, before that I was just playing cowboy fps games (Outlaws, similar engine to Doom)
At least Ive redeemed myself and beaten ultimate, doom 2, doom 2016 and eternal on nightmare to avenge my lost childhood
it’s a damn shame that this song is only used in Map 09. this is legit one of the best songs in the soundtrack
The pit isnt that bad, is doom 2 himself, run and gun in every room of the map, and is fun
@@quandaledingle8153 yeah but i’d love to here this song in maybe just one more map y’know :(
@@PickleAndPearBTBM yes :(
if you like this, you'd like sex type thing by stone temple pilots
It does make a couple of appearances in TNT Evilution IIRC.
I started watching my sister playing doom when i was 5 just when it was released, but i was so scared to play myself. Then, when i was 8 I played the whole game. Nowadays, i can say that Archviles are like my family

+Kaze Captor I like Mastermind more :P
Haha, I was 11 when this came out, and I watched my dad play it. I remember playing on dial-up with some friends I met on BBSes. Sadly, this game makes me motion sick, as do all old-school FPS games (DOOM, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem, RoTT, Hexen, etc). I bought DOOM and DOOM II on Xbox Live Arcade and can't play them for long.
***** lol great chillhood dude
"According to Bobby Prince, the harpsichord segments used in that song originally used a piano, which was was turned down by the rest of id Software as they didn't like the idea of a piano in any part of the music. As a joke, Prince swapped out the piano with a harpsichord, but the change proved popular with id Software (much to Prince's surprise) and it was kept in the final release."
Now I'm curious how it sound like with a piano instead of a harpsichord
This music is Doom in all its glory.
+refluX1kreborn e1m1 all the way, no doubts and you can't disagree
I disagree. Into Sandy's City > E1M1, though the latter is the most popular song in DOOM.
Ok smartass, first off it was an opinion. sure i said no doubts and you can't disagree because of the classic tune. it made the player genuinely introduced to the game
I regret saying my comeback and i wish to apologize about my stupidity overload. also i was making both a joke and a statement. it was gonna be around the whole big butts song but then i realized how stupid that would be and put in disagree instead. Hey! that rhymed and now i have to do time! IN THE ANIMAL CELL! AWWW YEA! BAD SCIENCE JOKE!
Cringeworthy? Lmao what the hell? How? It's a damn classic dude. Into Sandy's City is my favorite but there's no denying that E1M1 is easily the most memorable track in the whole Doom soundtrack library, and one of its best soundtracks.
The transition at 1:42 was so smooth, I almost slipped
Goosebumps
"You knew this was coming. The very essence of what a boomstick is, lies in two barrels prepared to deliver a lead kiss of death. Don't aim, don't worry about range, just point in their general direction and pull the trigger." - Boomstick
I want someone to make a remix of this using SpongeBob screams and call it "Into Sandy's Treedome"
Jake Espinoza I could make that
Please do.
Someone did that in a CZcams Poop called Spingebill and Potrock fight ISIS for Dota cosmetics.
Oh jesus
the threesome just reminded me of the football players that made Sex type sing which is the song that they riff from
Why the fuck did I read it as "Into Sandy's Threesome"...
It’s a crime this only plays in one single level.
I'm glad in a way - it makes the song and the level it plays in that much more special.
Without ID, the world wouldn't even know FPS games-they were the pioneers of the concept.
Quake code is still used in a lot of games today.
@@Knights_of_the_Nine And Quake used a lot of Doom code. Or at least the concepts anyway.
They would've still been created.
Shadow Warrior would like to have a word.
Fun example- TF2 literally evolved from Quake. That's why there's so many shotgun and rocket jumping.
It's such a shame none of the remixes I can find use the harpsichord like in the midi. I love unconventional instrument/genre compositions in music and this is a great showcase of that.
Yeah a lot of covers are too conventional in composition, whereas some of the best ones by Bobby Prince use shit like plucked violin, xylophone, and harpsichord (Into Sandy's City), electronic piano (The Healer Stalks), and panpipes (The Demons from Adrian's Pen).
Mick Gordon’s mix still uses harpsichord. Such a shame it was cut from the game
someone needs to make Sex Type Thing from Stone Temple Pilots on Harpsicord then, because thats where this song comes from.
Mine does
Thats the fun if composition!! Using shit that most are like "the fuck is this?" Then cooking with it and makung it sound completely new and near unrecognizable is just... Fuck i love composing
Heavy metal harpsichord.
Bobby prince said that he originally scored it for piano but no one liked it. When he did it for harpsichord as a joke (and because he was upset) everyone loved it.
cl0vvntiem Congratulations on reading the fucking description.
Cap'n Proctology I pissed myself.
Harpsichords can make really badass sounds, shown in this and Hellsing Ultimate's Badrick, yet it is rarely utilized. So sad.

And soon, we'll be re-entering Sandy's City in DOOM: ETERNAL! HYPE LETS GO!

It's SORT OF in Doom 2016, but yeah.
how is it in Doom 2016
In Vega Core, there's a melody that sounds sort of like the first bar. Sort of.

Music was played throughout the livestream. Head to 17:00 and it sort of sounds like it except much more sped up and remixed. You can slow it down too!
1:42 It’s pretty cool to see that part referenced in “Dune Eternal” from the Ultrakill Soundtrack.
Yes sir
Where?
This was one of my favourites, and finding out that the harpsichord was a happy little accident makes it even better!
This theme makes my happy trigger finger itch, "who's next!?" *reloading shotgun*
Along with "I Sawed the Demons" and "Hiding the Secrets" this is the best song of the original Doom songs.

Yep couldnt agree more
I used to hate this track...but Its so awesome now after I gave it a chance...every time I hear it, I can just picture how it would fit into a scene towards the end of an awesome Doom movie- where Doom guy is loading up and bout to take on some serious shit...
Yes
The actual doom movie was terrible......
Destination: Hell on Earth.
Passenger Status: Too Angry To Die
Its funny how the doom creators or bethesda or ID idk replied that they werent involved with the movie because they knew how it sucked

In sandy's city I was, and man was it hell.
I hate to say it, but now I can't wait for the reboot of DOOM 2, Id really pulled it off with the reboot, it's probably the most fun I've had in like 5 years.
Hopefully it turns out good.

DOOM is honestly one of the greatest games in existence.

SmokerFace12 And perhaps a Former Human doing the moonwalk?
I don't think a song can be hell. And if a song were, it would be something by Jacob Sartorius. Now _that's_ what I call *true hell.*
So Sandy Peterson lives in hell? Ok.
This level makes me appreciate the elevator you took to get there, or the "door3" texture if you follow me.
Such a great track ... Burned into my brain since childhood :)
Well then, I can now cross off "Unironically Headbanging To A Midi Track" off my bucket list...
Whats the problem with midi tracks?
The intro riff sounds like Crazy Train! I literally JUST noticed it! Gosh, I'm such a slow-poke sometimes...
what makes this song so fire is the feeling of progression. you could free solo mount k2 listening to this song
This is one of the best tracks in DOOM 2. glad it was used in BFG Edition :]
I personally don’t think any other Doom track tops this and that’s saying a lot.
I read that as BFG Division, not edition, I’m so mad at myself
So fond memories of being 7 years old and playing this game with my father. This music takes me right back to duking it out with demons using a double barreled.
Good times
Most badass game music I ever heard!
@Alexander Kedyulych doom 2 music still clear tho imo
Harpsichord is a badass instrument. Should be used more in metal.
Out of all the Doom's, this one had the best soundtrack
to the classic games I have more affection than the current ones
The harpsichord is one of the most underrated instruments ever created.
You did it again, Mick! Another banger, as per the usual. 🔥🔥🔥
Bobby Prince...
This was made before Mick knew how to play lol
The first two doom games were one of the greatest games of all time!
"You're lucky I don't smack you for thinking about leaving."
Always going to be the best use of harpsichord I will ever hear in my life.
YEAH!
slaughtering mancubus to the sound of a harpsichord!
This is by far my most fav track of all of DooM!
Came here because the open melody got use in one of the part on dune eternal from ultrakill
When ever I hear a song this epic I cant help but to type to the beat of it.
one of the best classic doom tracks
Such a damn good track and an effectively menacing track for a Sandy Peterson level.
This was my favorite track in Doom 2. Just plain awesome.
Bobby Prince is one of the best artist ever.
my personal favorite track of the game, brings back memories from the good ol' days
You can fit the Enter Sandman lyrics into this pretty well.
One of my favourites of doom music.
It's funny that the best part of the best song in Doom 2 was literally put in as a joke. Bobby Prince really didn't think that anyone would like the harpsichord, but it ended up being absolutely awesome. Very unique feel.
Came from Nemistade's channel, he really did a great job with his cover.
This and E1M1 are the two most popular Doom songs, by far.
Bobby Prince was a genius!
Bobby Prince: Hmmmm today I will make a fucking bop
This is definitely my favourite Doom II track, I'm glad they brought it back for Eternal but it's a shame you can't play it over the music in missions, only at the Fortress of Doom

Easily the best song from the classic Doom games. That drum fill makes me moist every time i hear it.
