  • There are several benefits to fasting and some of them may be surprising. Fasting is a biological stressor that initiates metabolic processes and can be used to treat numerous diseases.
In this Episode Leonard Wilhelmi, the managing director of Buchinger Wilhelmi Lake Constance talks with Dr Francoise Wilhelmi de Toledo, the scientific director of the Fasting clinics about the indications and contraindications of fasting.
Diseases currently treated at Buchinger Wilhelmi:
    - Cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors (Hypertension, Smoking, Coronary heart disease, Peripheral vascular occlusive disease, Chronic stress, Cardiac insufficiency, Peripheral lymphedema)
    - Metabolic disorders (Obesity, Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Hyperlipidaemia, Hyperuricemia)
    - Chronic inflammatory and degenerative diseases (Arthritis / Osteoarthritis, Migraine, Gastritis / Colitis, Fibromyalgia, Allergies / Asthma, Chronic constipation, Multiple sclerosis)
    - Mental and physical exhaustion (Depression, Chronic fatigue. Burnout)
    - Prevention and regeneration (Promoting stress resistance and immune defence)
Life can be stressful, challenging and exhausting. It is easier to master day-to-day challenges with a healthy body and a strong mind. Fasting creates the ideal conditions for restoring inner balance and offers various health benefits. However, it is only one component you need for a long, fulfilled life. Therefore, this podcast covers additional topics such as integrative medicine, inspiration, mindfulness and health-conscious nutrition from the Buchinger Wilhelmi AMPLIUS Programme.
Fasting, integrative medicine and inspiration - The Buchinger Wilhelmi Amplius Programme: Where Tradition meets Innovation.

My uncle had liver cancer, the doctor told him he was going to live one month,
he went to fast under doctor Burton (Sydney Australia) he was 55.
He fasted for 16 days and then he ate vegan for another 25 years, until he died in a car accident. We were close friends all my life.

To consult a specialist before fasting is a "must ", but the problem is that there are NOT fasting specialists. The medical community is driven to treat the symptoms and not the root causes. Diabetes type 2 associated to fatty liver and excess weight can be treated with fasting and reversed in most of the cases.
I have practiced water fasting and dry fasting regularly , the longest water fast was 39 days, I dropped 13 kilograms and also 9 daily tablets ( cholesterol, blood pressure, metformin and beta blockers ). The dry fast, that I did a few weeks ago , was during 6 days. I allowed myself a shower a day only.

@@costlyamara5109 Let me answer your question with my own experience. I did 22 days water fast seven years ago, in Egypt while working there. After five days of breaking the fast with vegetables and fruits, I ate 100 grams of Egyptian cheese and I ended in hospital due to a gallbladder movement. I was literally crying of pain. When I returned to Barcelona I received a medical suggestion to remove my gallbladder, but I refused at that moment despite that the diagnostic was "porcelain gallbladder ". During these past seven years I have never had pain at all, and it seems that my gallbladder is still working.:-)))
My advice to you is to seek medical advice and do not take decisions on your own.

Warm greetings from Costa Rica. I would suggest that there is an endemic "disease" of having spent the decades of one's life within the contaminations of modern society... those ingested, injected, breathed in and imposed through stress and even normal bodily process. These are cumulative and unavoidable and so, Fasting is indicated for all persons seeking a greater measure of health and wellness, body, mind and spirit.
I applaud your efforts, knowledge and wisdom.
If I may ask a question. Your best estimate of numbers of individuals like myself who have done a 40 day water only fast... especially when weight loss was not the motivation?

It would be wonderful if during this pandemic that you could have a subscription service where you are able to work with people in various countries world wide, where you could pay per lecture that you have in your clinics and that health information including blood work and other markers (BP and possibly insulin levels) could be inputted via an app or website. It would be nice to see a clinic in Canada maybe in conjunction with Dr. Jason Fung. I've wanted to visit your clinic since I discovered it a about four years ago but with the pandemic the last 18 months travel is too risky and difficult to get an extended time away from work where one would receive the most benefit.

I feel many criticize fasting because it's difficult for most to do. And it is if you consume the typical Western diet. The difficulty of it can sometimes make it feel unnatural. I've done a 3 week in 2014 but didn't make the necessary life changes and now I'm paying for it with chronic high BP and stage 3 CKD. Even with taking chlonidine, carvedilol, and amlodipine, both numbers are routinely over 100. BMI being 31. Obviously weight is an issue. I'm on day 5 of a 3 week liquid fast with maybe a fruit smoothie here or there. No more then one a day though. I'm also walking outside close to 5 miles a day when the weather permits. For anyone interested I'll come back with an update in about two weeks. I'll even have exact numbers. I've already noticed better sleep. I'm praying for strong will and the best outcome. Also, I'm surprised at how I'm still able to do some basic bodyweight exercises to maintain muscle tone. Nothing crazy. Just enough to keep the muscles stimulated. I feel optimistic like this is about to change the rest of my life🙏🏾

I just purchased a scale, so I don’t have good beginner stats, however, I am starting to notice tone in my thighs, clothes that no longer fit now fit. Clothes that did fit now fit a little looser. Because I know better than to use CZcams as my medical provider, I spoke to my physician and obtained her approval. Talk to your doctor to see if this is a viable option for you. Good luck!

Fasting (no food, as the term is multidimensional), is completed with feeding. Thought is the first food after food. It's the thought what attracts food & in a way vice versa. So breaking the fast complete the fast. It's knowledge rather wisdom that's completing fast. Happy that you focus on physical dimension. But physical comes out of Time (mind) and time from intellect. Thought leads, food is the last in line. Evidence based is not Evidence limited 🙏
