    The coral rose is just gorgeous! My dream color. What an amazing transformation in such a short time. Being in the south, my garden is several weeks ahead, but now I wish I could relive the best month in the garden. May for me, probably June for you. As my garden diversifies though, there’s something to look forward to every week - bet you feel the same. Here come the hydrangeas!

    I feel like your living your dream, a dream for a lovely, stunning garden ! I’m sure it’s A LOT of work hard work but in the end a dream come true. AND with all of your land it may be a never ending dream, your just going to have to figure out how to keep the critters out so they don’t think of your garden as a all they can eat buffet. Country living can be a struggle keeping your gardens looking great with all of the browsing animals around. Good luck in all you do. 💐💚🙃

    LOL -- what gardener is not way behind at the end of May??? Every day is triage: what is the most urgent of the urgent projects? I'm enjoying seeing you develop the new property. We have a service that sprays for deer every 3 weeks and it seems to be working well. I am too old and disabled to cart around a sprayer large enough to do my property myself.I fenced the vegetable garden to keep all the larger critters out. Once left the gate open and the raccoons dug up the squash seeds. The critters are very focused on eating and are out there 24/7.

    I always want to get more projects going than I can reasonably do. This year our street was hit by an EF1 tornado...we lost about 13 huge old growth trees. Between us and the two houses closest to us, probably 60 trees down. VERY lucky our houses were spared. The clean up has been a lot to say the least. I had gotten one large project completed prior, now I'm humbly taking care of what I have , added some annuals to my planters. This fall we are starting adding new trees. When I did my project in April I was thinking how risky it was because we always get another frost in April...but this year no frost and little did I know that the tornado damage would take away all of May!

    I just wanted to thank you! When you passed by your Bee Hive drip timer I noticed how close to the ground your facet is which is a problem I’ve been pondering over this last month in my garden. Seeing yours set me on a quest to find out how hooking up drip to a faucet with low clearance could be done. Found the answer on the Drip Depot website. Thought I was going to have to spend a lot of money to have a plumber raise the faucet! Thanks again

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  Před 3 měsíci

      You can just insert a 90 degree barb to make the turn if you don't have enough clearance to gently curve the tubing.

    • @giniambrosino5167
      @giniambrosino5167 Před 3 měsíci

      @@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden it wasn't an issue with the tubing it was connecting the timer, backflow preventer, and pressure regulator to the faucet.

    Matthew, I am being pulled in a few different directions myself… it is just part of the season I guess… it can certainly feel overwhelming for a while. I’ve decided to try vegetables for the first time in about 10 years and it’s a lot more work than I anticipated and quite time consuming as well. My shade perennial stash is about 4-5 times your shrub stash but I’m not able to expand my shade bed yet because I’m busy everyday trying to get veggie beds prepped and then planted and trying to figure out the best placement of a certain vegetable so it doesn’t overshadow other beds and block the sun to them… result of poor planning on my part. I have a plan in my head but execution is a lot more complicated than it seems to be in my head! lol… (there are worse problems to have!) I’ll be thinking of you and your gardens while I’m trying to get thru mine as well! One day at a time my garden friend 😊♥️

    Thank you for being so transparent on which projects need to still be accomplished in your garden. I am new to the gardening game and I am learning through you and many others. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), we don’t have a lot of ‘fun spending money’. The lack of money is making me pace myself and my projects. I am able to make seasonal note, research plants and draw up plans for the future.

    You have done so much in one year. It's fun watching your vision come to life. Your roses are very close in color to Supertunia Bermuda Beach, which I love and am growing this year. You said you grew them last year. What was your experience with them? I realize it's still May, but mine so far haven't taken off but I LOVE the color. NC 7b

    • @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden
      @TheSouthernersNorthernGarden  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I did grow them last year, and liked the color. But, we moved in July and most of the annuals that I brought with me in containers didn't do well as I did not have the time to care for them after the move.

    Good morning Matthew, I have a tip for you regarding deer or rabbit problems you might encounter in the future. There is a new ag repellent product called Trico Pro that I understand extension personal are raving about. I don't have that problem myself and don't have experience with it but I thought it might be good to try if you start serving dinner to the deer population. I found a few YT videos about it. It is said to be harmless to humans.

    Lots of new growth.
    Cant believe how well the limelight hydrangeas are bursting with new growth.
    If you check out "Murphys garden", she has a great video on how to maintain box woods.
    I think your oak leaf hydrangea is going to get really big because of the warmth from the brick wall and a good amount of watering.
    Repeat flowering would look nice...maybe add another 2 after you pull the alliums?
    You've really done an amazing job.
    I know how overwhelming gardens can be, but you have prioritised well.
    "Coco loco" is going to flower.
