  • Wayne Mount's love of horses stretches back to his boyhood in New Jersey. Never in his wildest dreams did the ten year old think he would ride not one but two legendary racehorses.. Secretariat and Riva Ridge.

What a great story! I feel very lucky to hear about his time spent with Secretariat, the greatest race horse in history!

Looking at Secretariat as a baby… you knew he was going to be great.

Thank you for spotlighting Mr. Mount (perfect name, eh?) and his connection to Secretariat. I know of Eddie Sweat and Charlie Davis, so it is nice to learn something of one of the other people who worked with him.

I was visiting Claiborne Farm in 1973 shortly after "Big Red's" winning the Triple Crown. Penny Tweedy (at the time, became "Chenery") greeted me personally and asked if I would like to have a ride on Secretariat! No comment needed there, so skip ahead to me raising my left foot in reach of his saddle's stirrup when my dream was suddenly interrupted by, "Becky, get up! The alarm didn't go off!" True story. And I've yet to forgive the man who was my husband at the time.

So glad I stumbled upon your channel tonight. Love Big Red. He was a gift! I have to say also the El Camino was a cool looking car. The horse and car, two great rides.

As an Englishman with a love of horses , and no disrespect to the legendary "Secretariat"... No where near the class of the best horse ever , During his distinguished career, Red Rum established himself as the greatest horse to compete in the Grand National. No competitor in the history of the most prestigious meeting in the sport triumphed more than the bay gelding. His total of three victories at the event are yet to be beaten in the 40 years since his retirement. Elite horses have attempted to match his accomplishment, but not a single one has managed to win twice. Red Rum stands alone in the history of the Grand National, arguably the toughest of all tests for a racehorse.

Just like no one has beaten Secretariat's triple crown records.

@@deathshock5072 I always give credit where it is due , Secretariat is the finest looking horse I have ever seen.. As a 68 year old, and bred over 4000 horses .. He was a beauty.. ❤

Red Rum was a jumper/steeplechase racer. He ran in completely different type of races. There is no comparison from flat racing and jump racing. Secretariat was not bred for hurdle race’ing… he was bred for flat racing.
