Sham ran easily 2 of the fastest ever times at the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Just happened to come in second to the horse with the records at both tracks. Probably would have run a much more conservative Belmont against a different field, but then again, maybe it was just too far for him, especially after maximum effort put forth the previous two races.

    today after 50 years.

He triggers these emotions in the heart, and the soul more than just the brain,
because when you watch him run it is glaringly obvious that he himself possessed
a rare, and unusual amount of heart and soul.💧

If I had only known back then that the history books would have been completely rewritten... what is amazing to me is that neither of these first 2 races have been beaten in 50 years. that is incredible. The Belmont? It will NEVER be beaten not in a thousand years. A coupla horses have run it in 2.26. But 2:24 is still 10 LENGTHS FASTER! he would have beaten Justify by 20 lengths. Need to repeat that.. 20!

    Two amazing trivia feats:
    1. Secretariat was the first horse to run the derby in under two minutes, at 1:59 and 2/5 seconds. I believe it's happened only one other time since, in 2001.
    2. His split times for each quarter mile were faster than the previous one, which effectively means he was still accelerating at the end of the race.
