      That was Joe Garagiola who made that call. He was a ball player and understood the significance of such an event. However, poll every single Phillie fan and each one of them to a person would tell you that they would have given anything to hear Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn finally get to call a Phillies World Series win. Due to broadcast rules at the time only the network was allowed to have their announcers. Sadly Richie Ashburn was gone by the time the Phils won in 2008 but Harry got to make the call...then he passed away early the next season.

  • @YouTube.Algorithmic.F___kery

    The 1991 World Series was the most gut wrenching, nail biting series ever. The best World Series EVER. Puckett hitting a HR in extra innings to force Game 7 and then Game 7 won in the 10th inning 1-0. John Smoltz and Jack Morris both pitched incredible with Morris pitching 10 shutout innings. Think that would ever happen today?

    • @Sgtalex-iv6eo
      @Sgtalex-iv6eo Před 2 lety +2

      Nah I think it was 2016 both Indians had long championship droughts with Cubs not winning a World Series since 1908 and Indians not winning won since 1948 with both fighting up to a game 7 and the whole series was filled with nail bitting innings especially that game 6 Cubs fans could have gotten a heart attack because that game was filled with them taking the lead to losing the lead late to them coming back Cubs took the lead then lost it late when rajai Davis homered when aroldis champman was pitching to them tying late and then Ben zobrist hit a RBI double in the 10th inning to take the lead late and when the Cubs had one more out to go the Indians already had a man on base so if they homered the Indians would have won that simple it was the bottom of the 10th inning so the Indians could have won right there but it was a groundball and the Cubs win for the first time in 108 years

      They stopped letting fans run onto the field around the time that baseball players started earning millions. Up until the 1980s, the players were poor and had to take a second job to make ends meet. You would see them working at car dealerships or something. They were regular guys. Once they got rich, they separated from society and approaching them became taboo.

      The 1995 Braves World Series rings actually say TEAM OF THE DECADE on them. Let that sink in.

      I still consider ATL the team of the 90s..sure NY won more WS, but they spent half the decade at home during the playoffs while ATL was in there every season

    I loved the 84 footage. No announcers, just the last fly ball to Larry Herndon in left field at the old Tiger Stadium. Scully and Garagiola let the pictures close the book on the only team in major league history who started their year 35 and 5.

    Also, in '87, while it's true that the Twins won their first World Series, they'd previously won a World Series in 1924 when they were the first version of the Washington Senators. The second version of the Senators is now the Texas Rangers. '87 was the only year that the home team never batted in the ninth, and the first of three, the other two being 1991 and 2001, that the home team won every game. Thanks for this clip!

    • @nelsonharrington9847

      Also both 1924 and 1991 were the only World Series with game 7 going into extra innings.

      It seems I knew those two things, but had forgotten. All I knew was that the home team won game 7 both times (literally) in the last at-bat. Interestingly the Twins are the reincarnation of the first version of the Washington Senators, the second being the Texas Rangers.

    Crazy. I was at one of the home games in Philly as a kid in '93. I still have nightmares about that Joe Carter walk off. Insane Coletrane Hamels, Pat the Bat, the Flyin' Hawaiian, J-Roll, Lights out Lidge and the rest redeemed us in '08

    Wasn’t that Edgar Renteria who got the game-winning hit in the ‘97 WS for the Marlins? If so, he got the go-ahead HR in the WS clincher for the Giants in 2010. Dude’s clutch!
