Debussy - « Clair de Lune » on the theremin

- Update, seven years later : • Claravox Centennial | ...
Playing Debussy's famous "Clair de Lune" on the #theremin - which is a very special musical instrument, invented in the 1920s by a Russian scientist (Leon Theremin). You play it without even touching it through electromagnetic fields - generated by two antennas. On the vertical one you control the pitch, and the other one determines the volume.

The movie “First Man” has a theremin as it’s lead instrument in the original soundtrack; fitting instrument because it resembles a human hum but also has connotations with space-travel, making it the perfect instrument for a movie about Niel Armstrong processing the death of his child while riding a rocket ship. Didn’t like the movie personally, but it’s use of theremin is such a smart move on a meta level, and the soundtrack’s use of it really redeems the instrument by using it unironically to show off its strengths.

@@avoidant560 Holy shit what a smart reference
This sounds amazingly 1920s Art Deco kind of futuristic, like it was from the soundtrack of Metropolis or World's Fair demo. I think it's because a classical music piece is played on one of those early synthesizers that used simple sinewave oscillators and vibrato.
David Woodside you are right :)
David Woodside yay metropolis! I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone reference that film and I love it
Metropolis by Kraftwerk would be more fitting imo
The 21st century finally arrived thanks to this guy
1:39 gives me chills
Zanderfist absolutely right!
It’s perfection
I heard it from some where years ago but nobody I tell remembers it
Zanderfist omg yes!! :0
I'm not trying to be contrarian, but it didn't impress me that much.
