Playing Debussy's famous "Clair de Lune" on the #theremin - which is a very special musical instrument, invented in the 1920s by a Russian scientist (Leon Theremin). You play it without even touching it through electromagnetic fields - generated by two antennas. On the vertical one you control the pitch, and the other one determines the volume.

Still be the waters on first summer's day

From the cool night frost formed on wild hay
As frogs and birds sing their daily tune
She flies high above as we twril in ribbon and dance
This short chance to make my advance
Eyes that shimmer in glamor keep me in trance
Until she is compelled from our romance
Fly away, fly away, from the dying of the light
Fly away, fly away, from the cruelty of blight
Fly away, fly away, into the restful new night
In tears I am propelled towards this new smell
Secret portal hidden in caverns that giants dwell
Landing in fields of hair, I drink a sip Until I am felled
Crumpled and fading I say my final farewell

The movie “First Man” has a theremin as it’s lead instrument in the original soundtrack; fitting instrument because it resembles a human hum but also has connotations with space-travel, making it the perfect instrument for a movie about Niel Armstrong processing the death of his child while riding a rocket ship. Didn’t like the movie personally, but it’s use of theremin is such a smart move on a meta level, and the soundtrack’s use of it really redeems the instrument by using it unironically to show off its strengths.

Kind of a music instrument that could fit well with a space exploration journey. Vast, unknown, hauntingly captivating and beautiful.

Sweetest playing of a theremin I've heard in decades. Pitch perfect... and exceptionally well done. Thanks for posting....

How do you even get into this? Are there classes you can take to become a thereminist? This is literally the first time I've ever seen this instrument.

this instrument was invented in Soviet Union by L. S. Theremin (sorry, idk if I spelled it right, I'm Russian) and in Europe the only school that can teach you this instrument is called «Russian Theremin School», there're two departments of it: one in Moscow, one in St. Petersburg. The headmaster is a grandson of L. S. Theremin - Peter Theremin.
I've only heard about this instrument on my history of the music lessons at school (I don't play any instrument, it's just a subject), so I needed to google some info.

This sounds amazingly 1920s Art Deco kind of futuristic, like it was from the soundtrack of Metropolis or World's Fair demo. I think it's because a classical music piece is played on one of those early synthesizers that used simple sinewave oscillators and vibrato.
