- Sennheiser recently announced the 5th generation of its Evolition Wireless microphone ecosystem, the Sennheiser EW-DP. Given Sennheiser's previous generation wireless microphones and their level of performance and reliability, we had to check out the new Sennheiser EW-DP for ourselves while at NAB 2023 in Las Vegas.
The first big difference between the new 5th Generation and the previous generation models is that the EW-DP is entirely digital. Its predecessors were all analogue. This represents a significant change for Sennheiser's flagship portable wireless system and helps to speed up the on-set workflow. However, unlike most digital microphone systems today, this one runs on UHF frequencies and not 2.4GHz.

Anybody else get distracted by the model in the background @6:30? I had to watch the video twice because I missed what he was saying 😂
app control makes so much sense, love it
They were a big thing on the show...
Wait so how do you actually use it with an audio recorder in a mixer bag? I would imagine the antennas being in the way, and there's no metal buckle unlike the G3/G4 that can hook onto straps in mixer bags.
I reached out to Sennheiser, and got a promising reply, especially with that wait for more TK. I am going to check back with them at IBC.... (or before...)
EW-DP is a 112p successor, and 112p can also not be used in a bag. Although the antenna placement will work, you won’t be able to see any display or operating controls when using a 112p in a bag.
EW-DP is first and foremost designed for filmmakers who prefer an RX on-camera placement. - wait for more to come ;)
can you guys see the microphone or not
Why does this appear to be too good? What are the down sides??
G4 had been out there for so long. It's time for an update. I'm not sure I see any prominent downside aside from having a Sennheiser price attached. (Then, again, you are getting a Sennheiser device)
How would this product compare with AVX? Better, worse or different?
I'm a big fan of the AVX system. This is what we used for covering NAB.
EW-DP operates on digital UHF which is more realizable than the AWX DECT. and the form factor is different. Gonna have a full review soon, but all and all, it is a higher end system
@@diyphotography cool, thanks for the excelent NAB coverage
Thanks for tuning in ♥️
Ew-DP has way less latency. And higher dynamic range. What I don't know yet is noise floor, we'll see soon.
@ AVX is known for never clipping, thanks to its built-in limiter.
Why haven't they released a dual channel receiver.....? WHYYYYYY?
I want that one so much as well......
Exactly, dual channel would be a no brainer!!
I reached out to Sennheiser, and this is the reply, looks like they have thought of this, and the encouraging part is that "wait for things to come" bit. I say, lets check back again at IBC...
EW-DP is meant to be a 112p successor and has the same price point. You will not get two high-quality UHF channels at 699,-. Besides - wait for more to come ;)
I wouldn't mind paying 699 for a dual channel receiver only, like the P41D from Sony. That's the direct competitor.
Wrong antenna placement. Should design it to be on the same side as the lcd screen so that the receiver can be used into a bag.
Having used the g4 and g3 for a long while now, I'm pretty sure that's not going to be an issue
@@diyphotography g3 and 4 lcd is at the body, not top. The new design is going to be a problem for who who wants to use in audio bag.
Oh, gotcha! Good point. Let me ask them
@@shem44 I reahced out to Sennheiser, and got a promising reply. Looks like there are more kits in the pipeline:

@@diyphotography great! Thx for clarifying with sennheiser. Look forward to other kits that work well for both on camera and in bag.
As a Sennheiser fan, it's sad to see how the DW-DP pales in comparison to the Deity Theos Wireless System. I would be really ashamed if I were on the Sennheiser product development team. Please don't mess up when you decide to refresh your AVX system, we need the receiver to be dual channel, and the transmitter should have SD/MicroSD that records backup audio in 32-bit float automatically, so if audio gets messed up, we can use 32-bit float backup and sync the audio. I'm so disappointed because I expected more from Sennheiser.
Well the issue with the on board card recording is Zaxcom has the patent until 2028, so if they do that they have to get license from Zaxcom. They may have but only decided to put that into the plug on transmitter for some reason...who knows! But that is generally why. I'm going to look at the Theos, but remember the noise floor specs weren't great. Sennheiser is generally a solid reliable brand and so is deity, they're just not known for high end gear is all.
@@whiterock1865 I will never buy a Deity, all of my audio equipment is Sennheiser cause I'm a fan. I'm just disappointed in Sennheiser. Onboard card recording is 1 thing, but for transmitter of that size being only single channel. It's almost unacceptable
@@Slipsch I agree, Sennheiser seriously missed an opportunity here. Coz it’s like there are low end wireless, then the pro wireless has such a huge price jump. I was looking at the deity Theos and honestly it looks pretty interesting…but wow the transmitter has pretty decent specs the receiver only has 103 dB of dynamic range, so to get the best quality, you probably want to extract the recordings from the chip vs receiver.
Is there any specific reason why you are copy/pasting the same comment under every single EW-DP review video which is being released? It feels almost like you are systematicaly scanning for new video reviews to then be the first to place your comment. If you are so dissapointed by the system it makes me wonder why you have still spend so much time and energy in looking up new reviews and post your lines.
Considering how dreadful the Audio is on this video, you'd think Sennheiser would not wish to be associated with it
