What Happens When Mountain Bikers Design A Road Ride? | Strade Bianche Challenge!
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 5. 03. 2021
- All bikes are gravel bikes, right? Riding on light, gravel roads on a road bike is great fun! It adds a whole new challenge to your cycling and makes you feel like the pros at races like Strade Bianche! Komoot are encouraging users to take part in their 'Komoot Strade Bianche' challenge and take their road bikes off road, in honour of the Italian bike race this Saturday. Alex and Conor teamed up with the boys from GMBN, who showed them how it's done!

Love it when Conor genuinely shouts âWe made itâ after cycling through a puddle. Classic.
We DESPERATELY need more crossover from gmbn, gcn, gtn, and hell even embn!
Yess
Yes Yes Yes!!
I want to see Blake vs olly on road bikes
Yes! We can learn much from each other
@@chrisridesbicycles yup
Connor: I will protect my bike with my life
GMBN: If our bikes explode, they explode
haha I was definitely trying to protect the bike....!
Iâm with Connor. Protect my bike.
@@crosisofborg5524 that's why you have one bike for normal riding, which is your baby. You protect it at all costs, take really good care of it, and make it absolutely perfect.
Then you get something cheap, and that's your "send" bike for mountain biking. Crash it and wrap the frame around a tree like a Sherman's Necktie? F it who cares. Rip all the good parts off, and another frame for $50 off Craigslist. As long as she's got the lowest three gears, maybe lowest five if your local trails have some faster sections, stops when you want it to stop, turns when you want it to turn, and rolls over bumps basically at all, the that's all you really need. Anything else is just expense to replace after a big crash wrecks it.
@@CPD0123a I get something expensive all the blings and latest drivetrain and brake techs, and that's my "send" bike for mountain biking
@@CPD0123a unless you are a mountain biker then your "send" bike(s) is your priority and you get whatever cheap bike you can find for the road!
The only thing I take from this video is "look at how much more fun the GMBN guys have on a regular basis"
I personally agree, but donât forget fun is subjective.
I love these crossovers though
@@Iheartdgd I also think itâs two very different topics. Road biking seems more centered on personal achievement and athleticism, while mountain biking centers on an exhilarating atmosphere and daring stunts.
@@definitelytoddhoward8603 well said bud
@@Iheartdgd i think I just had a positive interaction in a comment section⊠wowâŠ
@@definitelytoddhoward8603 đł......
Not everyday you see that, huh? Hahahaha. Glad to chat with ya.
GMBN and GCN crossovers make for the most entertaining videos thatâs for sure.
LoL Conor on off-road tracks is like a camper van at the Nurburgring đ
Long-wheelbase camper van, too.
I am that Camper Van. đ€đ
Just to be clear: I meant no disrespect there. But because he's so tall, his center of mass is so high and his wheelbase so long that he can't possibly have the same agility the other guys have. Just like a camper van đ
My teammates used to say I descend like a double decker bus haha
@@conordunne219 Accurate ahahah
My god, blake in lycra. BLAKE IN LYCRAAAA. I've seen everything now
Sam Pilgrim did it once too... about a year ago, took a road bike around the woods... Two of my favourites, in Lycra... and you thought 2020 was a year for crazy unexpected things to happen...
Did you catch him riding with his knees out at the beginning? Funny, trying to look as noob as possible. Then when he was riding later, his knees are in and aero. The guys a pro on a bike, and his bike handling skills are astounding.
He was looking great wasn't he!
It was probably Gorilla Tape, not lycra.
blake was in lycra on GMBN main channel too... ^^
Endgame is the greatest crossover of all time
GCN and GMBN: hold my derrailleur!!!!!
Strange to see Blake in Lycra on a drop handlebar bike đ
But love this group! We definitely need more of them
Man these collabs always make me smile
Thank you :) Glad you liked this one!
Blake and Neil are the best. đ They really help change up the episodes.
Both legends
"get it together, pretend we're not out of breath!" So true, so relatable.
I like how Blake is on his best behavior when hanging out with the roadies :) Love the GMBN/GCN combos. They all seem to get along, the way all of us cyclists should
The seat height difference between the roadies and MTBers is hilarious.
Noticed that too!
they are both much taller if you didnt notice so.... :D dont worry gmbn guys did have their seats high enough for road riding for sure...
On the BMX track I would nominate Conor for the "Oliver Bridgewood Trophy" đ
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł poor oli
I remember 15-20 years ago Mountainbiking for me was all about this kind of roads. Furthermore you got a hard and direct feeling hardtail. I loved it! For some reason it got more and more extreme and it became more about downhill and monster suspension with enormous wide handlebars. I stoped riding my bike 10 years ago but discovered gravel bikes just now. I have the feeling I am 20 again! GCN brought me back, thanks!
As a fellow tall rider (200cm) I can fully relate to Connor's terror going over the BMX jumps and technical single track. It's just more terrifying from up there - especially on top of a road bike!
Itât about time for the roadies to go beyond 28â. When I watch old photos from the 26â MTB days it looks just like that
Thanks Paul!!! Glad you agree.. its a long way to fall eh!
I can sort of see where you are coming from also being a tall rider except I am not sure it quite plays out, Steve Peat, Greg Minnaar, Rob Warner, Jack Moir, Ben Cathro to name a few, all fairly giant and all pro downhillers!
As a short guy, I must say that when I jump on my enduro I always feel safe and close to the ground ;)
@@chrisridesbicycles true. when i look at roadbikes (i have a 29" emtb) they always fell too small in terms of frame/wheels. i am 174cm tall so id say normal height. i somehow prefer the 29er even if some people would recommend a 27.5 for my size.
Without a shadow of doubt Connor and Blake are best suited to their own disciplines.
The great thing is - it's all cycling in the end!
These collaborations are my favourite GCN/GMBN films
I love when GCN and GMBN do content together. Keep them coming!
As a roadbiker, and mountainbiker I love these videos with crossover from GCN, GTN and GMBN. loved the music and edit@ 3:00, and those slow mo jumps at 7:25. Well done guys, and thanks!
We need a GMBN teaches GCN episode for Connor now! That man is in desperate need of offroad confidence. Maybe include Manon in the video, too!
I'm all for that! Put those two in baggy clothing, heavy armour, sturdy bikes and have them SEND IT!
The juxtaposition of Connor and the old woman with the cane on the trail is gold.
Haha love it when the Roadies avoid the muddy section đ A Roady never gets dirty. A mountain biker loves the dirt
Where is SI with his TT bike? He would have blown the socks of everyone even on the trail đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
now THAT is an idea!!!
Conner and Blake played Ollie's part!
Maybe fit some big tire on a time trial bike and it will become a time trail bike.
Great collaboration guys and a great route!! Conor going over the BMX track đđđ! #moreplease đđ
Thanks Jay, glad you liked it. If you can think of any other torture for me on a BMX track I'm all ears hahah
I canât imagine how the bike sponsors are feeling while their roadbikes are used in a mbx track
As long as nothing breaks its good advertising đ
Worrying 14 minutes for Canyon đ
They wonât care the bikes are being used for advertising. Plus they wonât come to any harm anyway.
I'm pretty sure Conors bike is his own.
More like this please! Alex went full send. Very impressed
Alex comes out top in this one for being right behind the Don on the last sector and fast round the bmx track too
Best all round rider of the 4 I'd say
@@ollyharris9438 Neil wasn't bad too.
Love his competitiveness ... "Right Conor - catch your breath!!.. Neil's close!" :-)
Yeah, fair play, Alex did a good job off road!!
I agree. If each section was timed i think Alex took the combined.
Bit of a tyre width difference going on there..Neil looked like he was on 40s and Connor on 25s.
Bit of a lung difference too, although I'd be even worse!
Oh my goodness--Neil's outfit and gear, Blake in spandex....just over the top!!! Go GMBN, whoo!
Really enjoyed this as it looks like everyone had a great laugh while doing the ride.
Thanks Carl, it was great fun. Just riding bikes for the heck of it. Feel very fortunate to have that opportunity
@@conordunne219 Thanks for the reply, hope to see more like this.
Seeing talented riders actually finding a different discipline difficult, however having good go & enjoying the experience is what itâs all about.
Connor off road is like a giraffe on ice skates.. chuckled a lot at this vid. Great entertainment! Impressed by Alex once again đȘ
Alex is everywhere now, i love it!
Crossover videos are among the best.
It would be awesome if you could arrange a massive crossover for an epic bike-packing adventure !
Watch the Neil and Si in Iceland video
@@petervonl I have. Multiple times. :)
Me too đ
Iâll say it...This was fantastic!!! These crossover videos are sooo good!!! Iâm a mtb, fatbike, single speed and road rider so bringing in Neil and Blake on gravel bikes was fun to watch!!! I subscribe to GCN,GMBN, EMBN seeing the different presenters on another channel showcasing their skills in a fun video is great!!! More of these crossover videos please!!!! đđđđ€đ€đ€đđđđ
Hahaha! Loving the Djenty intro! I ride a Marin gestalt gravel bike but with 25mm slicks and narrow handlebars, so I'm pretty familiar with the hybrid area between mountain specialist geometry, but then somewhere between gravel and road in perishables.
3:30 My God. Conor is really tall, seeing the size difference between his and Neil's bikes... đź
Conor is 6'8", basically has to have frames custom built for him and extra long steer tubes on his forks.
@@mrvwbug4423 his bike ends up looking like it has 650C wheels because of its size. Whoa.
I suddenly remember the custom mountainbike Thomson built for Shaq that has 32" wheels.
@@kswsquared Shaq has a 36er now but I forget what brand it is
This video was a hoot to watch! Seeing the GMBN guys just sending it, while the GCN guys at least tried was worth it! Never be afraid to huck your bike, you never know how it's going to go until you do it!
Great job guys. Love these mixed challenges đđ
Loved the GBN guys with this collaboration.
I lack a tyre and wheel sponsor to try this on my road bike.
Comments like this is why people think roadies are up tight đ
Word!
you need a gravel bike to try this
Indeed! Thank goodness no Canyon was harmed in the making of this film ..... As Canyon say - 'Bikes of this category are designed for riding on hard-surface roads where the wheels remain in permanent contact to the ground.'
The first 6 minutes in and most of these surfaces seem pretty mellow for the road bike...
oh wait...
Great video, Guys !! I really envoyed watching it !!
Loved this. Great when Conor appeared from the hedge with a clump of grass in the brakes đ
Living the dream....riding bikes across Europe for a living...winning. Keep up the great work.
You Know its gonna be good when u see Blake and Neil on GCN..Epic Vid !!!
Effing brilliant. Really enjoyed this one. Well done lads
Music for the whole vid was spot on.
Dirty trails got noticeably dirtier music! đ
More of these! Love the GMBN vs. GCN
The sound design on this video is one of the best GCN has ever had
Every bike IS a gravel bike after all. Great vid guys!
Blake should be a mainstay in GCN!

Love the guys from GMBN coming over and vice versa
Nice to see the GMBN guys really riding road bikes and smashing it off-road.
Jolly good fun to watch. More of this, please! :-)

This is definitely COOL Y'ALL NEED to do more of this.
The GMBN guys rock!
Best gcn show I've seen in a while
This is one of my favorite episodes
When your lead rider has a dropper seatpost on his road bike you know you're in for a ride. LOL
Fun to watch, ...very entertaining, .. I'm out of words.!
a lot of fun.. cheers!!
Oh this is cracking me up. I love the bit with the BMX track.
I love it when GCN and GMBN collab đ
Your videos allow the rest of us to go on vacation around the world, while peddling slowly in place! You are lucky in Europe that you have roads where rude, monster trucks are not trying to run you over every time you head out. Keep up the nice scenery videos.
GMBN and GCN pure power love the ride..
Never clicked so fast.. My heart is in road cycling.. But in watching CZcams my heart is in watching gmbn and Blake :P
5:36 that bunny hops were amazing!!!!!!!
âIf you feel up to itâ đ€Ł
Blake and Neil are beasts
Dang! Those are beautiful mountainroad bikes. So cool!
Love to the Canyon Grail AL in action. My favorite all around bike.
Brilliant, no other word for it đ
I love mixed surface rides like this, and I do them all the time.
Love this. Recently I started doing hill bombs on the road in my local mountains with my mtb. All the roadies made it look so fun. I raced a few as well. lol
love the edit and the spirit in this videoo
What a treat, Neil and Blake đ€©
Blake jumping on those deep section wheels - just wow!
and that jump was big!! mad skills
Blake is nuts on top of a bike. Any bike. Wouldn't surprise me if he managed to clear jumps on a recumbent!

Love the cross over! Trails and roads are a bit extra here in the heart of the Montana Rockies. No need to search for challenging routes we have no other kinds!đ
