Be sure to check your tires ALL THE WAY AROUND!
Two years ago I knew it was nearly time for new tires, but I still had plenty of tread left...except for one spot where a defect in the rear tire had left it worn down nearly to the steel belts. I never noticed the bad spot, it was never in a visible place when I checked my tires, and one day it blew out on me. Fortunately this was a "learning experience", but it could have just as easily been a horrific crash.

In Snowland, also prep the driveway all winter ! First real sunny day of spring yesterday with a balmy 8 Celsius predicted in the afternnoon. Spend the morning prepping the bike (thanks Revzilla) and open the garage door to a short, but uphill packed snow driveway now a sheet of ice, glistening and wet under the sun. Aaaargh ! The de-icing salt is at work but the opportunity was wasted. I'm keeping a track to the asphalt next year ! Live and learn...

Get a float charger and you'll have no issues. Unlike a basic trickle charger which constantly delivers a very low current, a float charger monitors the battery as it self discharges and delivers enough current to “top it off” without over charging and causing the electrolyte to boil off.

Check the tire DOT date code on the side wall. Tires are considered old after five years. The four numbers in the DOT code represent a two digit week of the year they were manufactured and a two digit year ( i.e. 1420 is the 14th week of 2020, or, first part of April 2020). I personally do not ride on tires that exceed this date ever!
