The airliner one is also a favourite of mine.. not least because of who it was played the flight attendant/hostess. It was Marina Sirtis, but you may know her better as Counsellor Deanna Troi.
Haha when he greets Vincenzo in Ski Lodge (spot 2) he says to him "Buenos Aires" ..instead of "Buenas Tardes" (good afternoon). Also he mumbles "gracias" in spanish when he should be saying "grazie" in italian. So hilarious and funny!
These ads were directed by Alan Parker who passed away July 2020. After making Bugsy Malone, Hollywood wanted him-making such films as Evita, Midnight Express, and Mississippi Burning.
The airline one really deserves its reputation as one of the great comedy ads. The way Joan seems to have avoided the inevitable splash and the look one her face when Leonard puts her chair back.
Aaaaah the late great Leonard Rossiter. I used to love watching "the fall and rise of reginald perrin". Arguably his most memorable role (unless you prefer rising damp).
These ads were run after Joan Collins' huge success in the films The Stud and The Bitch. those were the films that Aaron Spelling saw that made him want Joan for Alexis. In fact, the man with the moustache in the ski ad is her co-star from The Bitch!
Very funny. I grew up on these ads too. Joan Colins all I can say is what a gorgeous woman! Incidentally, both the crew and Directors of these ads said that Rossiter was extremely pompous off camera, he even refered to Collins as 'the prop' whilst she was extremely down to earth and aimiable.....
Leonard was great.. and Joan covered herself with glory in these ads.. well, actually, it was Cinzano that covered her, but what I mean is, she made a fool of herself in the most elegant way possible, such that her reputation was greatly enhanced.
For the pedants: count the glasses on the tray the waiter brings, at 1:48 and then again at 1:53 ! Oh and btw - brilliant, ollidann, thanks for sharing! :)
hi, Lets talk about the adverts. Rossiter is brilliant in these and shows classic comic timing with Joan Collins. He also shows that he has some class which shows he is a cut above Mr Rigsby !!!
These are a bit before her Dynasty fame, clearly. She’s being called Melissa. Which to a person who grew up watching her as Alexis on Dynasty and mega star Joan Collins in 80’s press is strange.
This campaign was created by Ron Collins and directed by Alan Parker Alan has often described the original scripts he was presented with as 'crap', needing complete re-writing and salvaging. By him. Ron's wife, my mother, remembers things rather differently. He would come home and try out scripts on her. And the first film, the one in the bar, went on air as originally written. The pouring gag was a particular favourite of his long before he put it in here. He tried it on me a few times.
Nobody could wear a frock like Counsellor Troi. Phwoar! Best part of the show. I regretted it when she was promoted and had wear uniform like the rest.
I still come back regularly and watch them!! Oh, can't you just smell those Italian wines, suffused with herbs and spices from four continents! 😍
I hope this kind of comedy never ever gets lost or forgotton
The last one, in the airplane, really gets me everytime, a masterpiece of comic timing in my opinion. It's always a joy to see Leonard, rip.
The airliner one is also a favourite of mine.. not least because of who it was played the flight attendant/hostess. It was Marina Sirtis, but you may know her better as Counsellor Deanna Troi.
Yes, they were both brilliant
RIP indeed, Reginald Iolanthe Perrin
LR was one of the Greatest English Commedians.
and will never be Forgotten.
Thanks Leonard....
Leonard Rossiter was an absolute genius. Loved seeing these ads again altogether.
Timing is just perfect. He was a comic genius.
Joan Collins brought a great deal of credit on herself by playing the clown. Nice lady. I wish her well.
Haha when he greets Vincenzo in Ski Lodge (spot 2) he says to him "Buenos Aires" ..instead of "Buenas Tardes" (good afternoon). Also he mumbles "gracias" in spanish when he should be saying "grazie" in italian. So hilarious and funny!

i grew up with these adverts, always loved them. thanks for putting them on.
What a treat to see these again. Absolute gems. RIP Leonard Rossiter you made us smile.
OMG I've just found out that the air hostess serving the drinks on the aeroplane is none other than Star Trek's Marina Sirtis!
Fuck me so it is
The airline one really deserves its reputation as one of the great comedy ads. The way Joan seems to have avoided the inevitable splash and the look one her face when Leonard puts her chair back.
Leonard Rossiter a master of perfect timing. Joan Collins must have loved playing opposite that genuis . Even if a slightly soaked sidekick.
Leonard Rossiter and Joan Collins playing it for laughs for a series of very memorable Cinzano TV ads. Extremely humorous then and still now.😊.
Love how in the first ad. LR breaks out into a little Brummagen ! And isn't Miss Collins an absolute stunner. She's got it all.
When adverts were better than the programmes....!
+Ann Brown Yes, our family used to look forward to the ad breaks in those days!
These ads are still better than the programmes.
No. The programs were even better. Not like the crap they spew out these days......
Best line (after Leonard spills Cinzano on Joan): Melissa, may I get you a Cinzano? No thank you, I just had one. LOL - poor Joan.
No. Best line is, “Getting your head down, sweetie? Jolly good idea”
Now I can see why Spelling picked Joan Collins to play Alexis on Dynasty. She was already playing her in these ads. Alexis was a real sophisticate!
A forgotten star of comedy, late great Leonard Rossiter.
Its all about lovely Joan Collins!
Getting ice cubes on her chest.
They don't make adverts like this anymore, a great shame!
Great and funny ads! :)
The Airliner ad is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I remember seeing it as a kid and it still makes me howl with laughter.
Ha ha
Wonderful.
They were soooo goood together! :)
Timeless classics
Joan Collins Gorgeous. In these with the great Leonard Rossiter she is so funny. Class lady.
Aaaaah the late great Leonard Rossiter. I used to love watching "the fall and rise of reginald perrin". Arguably his most memorable role (unless you prefer rising damp).
Timeless classic.. Rossiter was a genius!
I think the 1980's was the last decade in which drinking alcohol could be portrayed as having any glamour to it and advertised with actual grown up's.
These ads were run after Joan Collins' huge success in the films The Stud and The Bitch. those were the films that Aaron Spelling saw that made him want Joan for Alexis. In fact, the man with the moustache in the ski ad is her co-star from The Bitch!
Thank you so much. Brings back memories. Classic ads. Don't make them like this anymore.
Excellent spot!
Actually still my favorate aperitif.
HAHAHAHHAHA!!!! This is hilaaaaarious. They need to revive these ads. Is Cinzano Bianco still available???
Ha! Remember those old Cinzano ads?
Pure Genius
Rossiter was pure class.
I'd never seen these before the Guardian mentioned them in the live text for a Merseyside derby, but what an amazing series of adverts!
Ah, this was my grandfather's agency, CDP. They always tried to do things differently.
Ah. What is his name? Great agency. So many classic adverts.
@@olliedann CDP stands for Collett Dickenson and Pearce. My grandad was Ron Dickenson. Thanks so much for uploading this, its nice to see!
Leonard was great.. and Joan covered herself with glory in these ads.. well, actually, it was Cinzano that covered her, but what I mean is, she made a fool of herself in the most elegant way possible, such that her reputation was greatly enhanced.
Not to mention her Bank account.
Superb. "Buenos Aires"
Absolute gems - also check out the "Go to Work on an egg" adverts by Tony Hancock from the 1960s
For the pedants: count the glasses on the tray the waiter brings, at 1:48 and then again at 1:53 ! Oh and btw - brilliant, ollidann, thanks for sharing! :)
The stewardess is Marina Sirtis - Deanna Troi in Star Trek the Next Generation.
hi, Lets talk about the adverts. Rossiter is brilliant in these and shows classic comic timing with Joan Collins. He also shows that he has some class which shows he is a cut above Mr Rigsby !!!
I think most people are a cut above Mr. Rigsby.
These ads need no computer generation and no expensive new soundtrack e.g. of Enya singing Ace of Spades!
never forgotten if remembered?
These are hilarious!
The first one has Nadim Sawalha (Nadia & Julia's dad) as a bar steward. He always played wealthy Arabs in series like The Professionals.
These are a bit before her Dynasty fame, clearly. She’s being called Melissa. Which to a person who grew up watching her as Alexis on Dynasty and mega star Joan Collins in 80’s press is strange.
he's in two kubrick flicks
they should do these ads again but with Lee Evans and Victoria Beckham, that would be a smash for sure.
Joan gorgeous as ever
Read a book about Leonard Rossiter "Character Driven" a month ago apparently some people confused the adverts for Martini due to the similarity.
Possibly directed by Alan Parker. RIP.
This campaign was created by Ron Collins and directed by Alan Parker

He tried it on me a few times.
Hotel balcony missing
Marina Sirtis from Star Trek, the Airline Stewardess on the plane.
I just read that Joan Collins decided to use a sheet as a dress because she didnt want to ruin the 1000 dollars dress they got for her :D ! thats nice
@reachwash My father worked at CDP around the same time.
hilarious...rossiter was also excellent in a few pink panthers.
Rising Damp meets Dynasty! Vincenzo looks like Omar Sharif. 'Buenos Aires'!
Did anyone ever try a Cinzano ?
(sry typo, I mean olliedann)
lmao @ throwing the drink in the guys face by accident!
Deanna Troy from Star trek TNG is the stewardess, if you look closely.
Nobody could wear a frock like Counsellor Troi. Phwoar! Best part of the show. I regretted it when she was promoted and had wear uniform like the rest.
that stewardess is the troi women in star trek am sure
@vania1013
When and where was that?
How filthy. They just turned poor Joan into a wet T-shirt contest for college kids in Cancun or whereever! LOL
Joan's conquest in "The Bitch" also here. I always confuse him with Omar Sharif.
What year was the Cinzano aeroplane advert
The year was 1978. Great ads!
@StanStemblowski Star Trek The Next Generation. Yay!
funny as feck...
is that omar sharif?
He's a lookalike.
The Japanese guy's name is "grilled chicken on a stick."
Marina Sirtis of Star Trek TNG fame as the stewardess....
...
And what do we have now? Nicole Scherzinger with a little dot of yogurt on her nose. :/
Nonsense; he often played Hindu bank-managers too Lol.
