Prison gang members live by a code, “’Til the casket drops.” What if there was a way to make it out alive?
At 17, John was introduced to a life of crime by the person who promised to protect him. He spent his next 18 years in prison, heavily entrenched in gang culture. Prison officials labeled him as “the worst of the worst” and locked him in a notorious supermax prison, Pelican Bay. John transformed his life and now works with gang leaders to stop the generational cycle of gang violence nationally. Together, they’ve authored the first-ever retirement plan for gang members, called Squaring Up. With Hustle 2.0, John has co-authored 10 books that provide rehabilitation and healing for people in jails and prisons nationally. his story is moving, and so common-having his humanity overlooked for so long.

Powerful story Mr. Jackson. Thank you for sharing and being a strong resilient person. Change is never easy, but sometimes necessary. Thank you for the work your doing. As a child who’s father has been in prison for over 24 years, it gives me hope that he to can make the necessary changes to turn his life around 🙏🙏🙏

This was so good. Thank you so much for sharing your story, you vulnerability and for advocating for others who want to be seen, heard and loved. This makes me angry. Arrested at four! Solitary confinement for that many years? Why? Makes me sick to my stomach. You can't punish the pain out of people! This must stop. Your motivation to change was outstanding. Nothing could be harder. I want to meet Cat Hoke. She is amazing. "If you die today. Why would your life matter?" Yay! I love that your peace protests worked. How can I help? I coach moms of addicted loved ones who lose hope. I want to empower them to recover, so they can change this epidemic. Prisons are a part of that. Keep going!

@@johncrooks664 The first day I ever went into prison as a volunteer, I met John while he was still incarcerated. In one of the country's most notorious prisons. He is real, and he is telling the truth, and I am proud to call him a friend.

5:10 "Most street gang activity is organized and led from solitary confinement and in the highest security prisons"... That's a bracing reality.
