      What is normal for me may not be the same for everyone. I do know that hair sheds in cycles so maybe it was just the timing of when you began taking it.
      I would just keep taking it as long as you’re not having any other side effects.

    NEGATIVE SIDE EFECTS: I took Finasteride for 3 months and I had to stop it as negative side effects appear for the lack of DHT. No interest in sex. All the hair in my body fell off including legs, arms and chest. It made me insulin resistant therefore growing up a big belly. My doctor said this medication was suppose to do all the oposite but nevertheless I stop it in its track. This medication takes 3 months to get out of your system after which the desire for sex return SLOWLY, the hair on my body came back except in the chest and stomach and the insulin resistant belly stayed even after years of strict diet and exercises, and I still have it. If you are prescribed Finasteride keep your eyes wide open and if you see any of these side effects appear go and tell your doctor. There are always exceptions to the rules and unfortunately I was one.

    Hello, Dr.
    My hair loss pattern began in my 40's and has progressed rapidly, particularly in the crown area, with other parts (the side area and hairline) being slightly impacted. I'm now 46, I had a hair transplant operation two months ago, and I'm using finasteride 1mg and minaxdil 5% as prescribed by my doctor for at least a year. Now that I'm seeing some side effects, I'm wondering if I should continue using it or if the hair loss trend will stop after a year, or if my body will readjust and the negative effects will fade away with time.
    Also, would taking modest doses of 0.5/0.25 mg be beneficial in reversing some of the negative effects?
    your doctor's opinion appropriate?

      From what I have read :
      First you need to take it to know if you're going to have side effects. After you take it for 2 to 3 weeks you will know.
      If you stop early it will take 1 to 2 months for your body to go back to normal.
      But always remember that finasteride mostly works if you have less of side effects then just take it, it's always better then being bald. Don't worry most of men don't suffering any or at most they suffer from mild side effects.

      Testosterone does not effect male pattern baldness. DHT does. Using Finasteride actually increases your testosterone, so having high T isn't relevant.
      You could take 2mg a day, but studies have shown that its only a tiny bit more effective than 1mg. You can take anywhere from 0.2mg-5mg per day, and there isn't too much of an effect in effectiveness, but higher doses put you at more risk of side effects.
      It's also important to note that Fin isn't supposed to grow your hair back. It main purpose is to prevent further baldness and keep your hair as it is. Only about 40% of men grow any hair back.

      Yes this is normal! Your hair is shedding the bad hairs so that new thicker hairs can grow. Went through the same issue and freaked out, but keep pushing through and it grows back before you know it. You need to understand that you are your biggest critic. YOU will worry about it more than anyone. My hair is VERY clearly thin (you can see my scalp and hair is receding big time) but that has not had any negative affects when it comes to relationships, meeting girls, or anything at all. Just be confident and yourself. You will be just fine. I promise.

    • @JamesHardy
      @JamesHardy Před rokem +16

      @@rayveon7022 I want you to think about it this way: if you are currently losing your hair, the longer you wait and push off treatment, the less hair you’ll be able to gain back. You need to start treatment now so that you can save as much as possible. I put it off for a long time and I regret it because if I would’ve started sooner, I would have a lot more hair… Don’t worry about the shedding process, your hair WILL grow back thicker and fuller. The shedding starts pretty quickly as in the first couple weeks you notice a lot of hair coming out and that lasts for probably month or two and then your hair grows back after that. I say a month or two because so much bad hair falls out that, by the end of month two, there’s no bad hair left… The most difficult part of treatment is the initial shock people get when they’re in the shower and they see tons of hairs on their hands when they wash their hair. I freaked out and almost stopped but you just need to keep grinding it and it all grows back thicker and fuller. When you start treatment, try to look at the situation as “ok the sooner the hairs fall out, the sooner my hair grows back.” In my previous comment I mentioned that you are your biggest critic, and it’s true. No one cares about your hair falling out. You’re getting treatment so it will come back thicker and fuller. I basically thought to myself that I needed to stop acting like a baby about it and realize that no one really cares. It never hindered me when meeting people, TRUST ME (if you know what I mean).
      All in all just get it through your head that you’re in a crappy situation and it is what it is. I’m right here with you and so is every other viewer. Shit happens, so make the best of it and start your treatment. Don’t worry about the shedding. The shedding stage just means it’s working.

      @xFlared Před rokem +1

      First you get on fin and see how you can tolerate it. There are topical fin solutions which minimize the sides. You also can take lower doses or reduce frequency. If nothing works and you can't tolerate any dose of fin without losing libido, then you just downgrade to minoxidil as the last line of defense. Minoxidil doesn't address the core issue but is more of a stimulant effect to make hair look fuller and thicker. It doesn't improve nor maintain your hair, it just maximizes whatever roots you have at the moment. Other than that the last option is to shave off. Honestly even if you go the nuclear option and do a hair transplant, the new transplanted hair will also fall out due to DHT affecting the same areas of your new roots unless you take finasteride. All hair transplant patients in any clinic are prescribed finasteride to preserve the new roots in the DHT effected scalp areas. It is absolutely fundamental, otherwise the transplant is just a waste of money and in the long run when you start losing hair in the unnatural pattern, it will look much worse that your natural hair loss does now.

      @@OldboyWOW DHT doesn't affect hairs or roots in the donor areas, it affects the U shape on top of men's head which is the DHT sensitive area in most men. Therefore if you take hair roots and plant them in the DHT sensitive area, and don't take finasteride, then it's like picking a flower from soil and putting it in a vase with water. Won't be long until it will whither and die. In addition finasteride with minoxidil is the most prescribed combo. Minoxidil stimulates while finasteride fights the root of the problem. Both can be obtained topically or orally. Topical finasteride is more expensive due to extra labor and cost for compounding the solution.

      You know how hair works? You have to read the lifecycle of hair, from anagen katagen to telogen. When people have male pattern baldness, most hair are in a "limbo" state, because no new hair is coming from the root since the root is weak. By using medication, the root is then strengthened, give ways to new hair. But the new hair cannot emerge if the "limbo" hair is not falling out. Hence, people called this shedding period. In order to see if this is really the shedding period, you have to observe if there is a new hair coming. Dermatologist usually use the hair follicle count as an indicator

    My dad was completely bald at 25. So when I started noticing it at 19 I was like crap. Then propecia came out. It’s definitely preventative. Not sure if hair will regrow. But it’s slowed hair loss greatly. I would say it slows hair loss by 10x. I’m 50 now and hair loss like my dad had at 22. It’s going but slower and it this point who cares. No side effects.

      Thank you so much for watching the video and taking time to leave a comment. Unfortunately (and I know this will be frustrating for you), I am unable to give individual medical advice out on this channel. This is because of medico-legal reasons, not knowing your full case, circumstances and it would be unethical of me to do so otherwise. I have included the general resources I used to make this video in the description box but I have to advise that you speak to your own health provider (e.g. doctor, nurse) so that they can properly assess your case. Thanks for understanding.
