I STRONGLY DISAGREE! Being as famous as I am on CZcams, I know that it gets hard to read every comment I get. I try my best, but I am just so famous, that I can't do it much longer. Sorry, dear cc
Yep
A photographer and a sniper went into a famous bartender's bar. They discussed the perfect shot.
Dead
He should have just put on his plot armour.
lol
Like all protagonists. Especially Chell.
A wild Harry101UK has appeared. Havent really kept up with what you have been doing recently but your Portal videos from way back still stand as masterpieces to this day. I imagine that Sam looks to them for inspiration or at least he will at some point because you really are one of CZcamss pioneers in animation of this kind
The cutscene is a plot armor tradeoff. The chance of injury that will last after usage of healing mechanics exponentially increases, however, you become practically immune to death unless the plot says otherwise
He did, did you not see how many point blank misses there were?
I like the detail that during cutscenes everyone's aim is suddenly garbage
I don't think it a deatail pretty sure most cutscenes has more accurate shot then gameplay
I think infinite ammo is a bigger detail
Yeah because there’s no crosshairs in the screen
This was the weirdest thing youve done

Imagine a self-aware game where interacting with cutscenes is an actual gameplay mechanic. Holy damn, we need this.
Would be pretty cool in VR
Didn't the Deadpool game do that a bit? It was mediocre gameplay-wise, but it dud some fun stuff with meta narrative.
I like how he says holy damn lol
Telitale company is dead buddy
@@bullykojima3232 Except it isn't. Wolf Among Us Part II is in production.
Also, those "interactable cutscenes" are just great game mechanics. They were really good in the Telltale Games, but in my opinion, it was peak in Detroit: Become Human. Also there might've been some in Life is Strange, but it's been six years since I played that game, so I don't remember.
“What caliber is this?”
-“it’s a 35 millimetre”
Genius.
I don't get it
@@Patient_Zero_0 Sam’s character was asking Niko’s character what caliber weapon it was, referring to the class of the bullet (7.62, 12 gauge etc.) and Niko who handed him the camera said it’s a 35mm which is a classification of film cameras.
@@sirwafflesxx8218 which is also a way to classify certain calibers and is inherent in their name.. 9mm is probably the most global example, but above 30mm is usually a high-powered ordinance on par with a grenade launcher, IE the 35mm or the 40mm grenade launchers all the way up to naval warship cannons, the highest of which I could find after a small google search was around 410mm :L- also an example of an actual 35mm grenade launcher is the QLZ-87 which is a crew-portable but essentially mounted fully automatic grenade launcher
@@Patient_Zero_0 It's a reference, the Character sees it as a weapon so it asks what the bullet caliber is and Niko responds with 35mm which is the lens of the camera, just well placed dialogue

Don't know what's more frightening, the fact he was in an endless unskippable cutscene... or the fact that if he did die, it'll loop back to right before the cutscene started
That's the power of Bites Za Dusto
If he died in the cut scene the game would end.
Why would dying in a cut scene spawn him back to last save?, cut scenes progress the game
I believe their idea was to kill him in the cutscene, that failed so for God knows how many years they followed him until he was too weak to fight back or be a bullet sponge end the cutscene and light him up like 4rth of July in December.
Assuming it auto reloads on death and he has no say in the matter, he has two choices, either keep reliving his death or reload the save he made before the cutscene making him go though the entire thing all over
@@jimmyju76 because it's actually a quick time event with no checkpoints. Dying restarts the whole sequence from the beginning.

@@DogOnAKeyboard I saw this the other day, not sure if it works, but worth a look. czcams.com/video/3TP6kER1MAw/video.html
I think this perfectly highlights the limitations of motion capture. Just like with vfx you have to blend it with practical fx. Or in this case, "traditional" keyframe animation. Odyssey to the West was a game that heavily used mocap but still used keyframe animation. The result I think was really good
The facial expressions perfectly show this. As tedious as it is, facial mocap isn't really that good. Though it can be hilarious
I was expecting the cut scene to end after he says goodnight to his grandson, and it goes back to him with a minigun in a warehouse.
the face animations are the ultimate so bad it’s good.
those weren't hand animated (mostly) btw, it's acting: motion and facial expressions capture
Those aren't animations, those are REAL FACES
I think the term you are looking for is jank, but yea what you said works too I guess. Still when you view the work as a whole I think what they managed to achieve is outstanding. Once they get better with the pipeline, we could potentially see cool productions. This could be for small creators what that ultra large surround screen was for the Mandalorian.
ikr? they're so Unreal
@@adblockturnedoff4515 Agreed, prolly had only few weeks. Even with mocap they still have to fine tune by hand the mocap performance. Aside from the animation. The lighting and environments are great
I can tell Sam was doing the voice acting and it was great lol
same
Uh...Sam was the bald bad guy and first soldier, Niko was the second soldier and the kid in the bed.
"Sweet baby boy"
Yeah Sam and Niko...
It's a great proof of concept. With Unreal 5 and the new lighting/large mesh tools you should be able to make some super realistic stuff in the near future.
When you encounter a scripted event
“How did that one guy hurt me!? I tanked a rocket earlier!”
Best part was definitely jumping out of the aspect ratio and reversing the shot just to be stuck in it again
Moment starts at 3:00 and yes, it was hella meta!
For those "ackshually" contributors pointing out individual janks, I'd like to mention that typically, scenes like this require multiple man-years of VFX work before being finalized. Assuming what we're told is literal, that's ONE man-year of work we're looking at.
Good job Sam.
To be fair, that's one year including learning unreal engine and basic game development from scratch
@@anarchybreed Which only make it that much more impressive.
Tbh the janky animation gives it more charm
I think the imperfect style it’s done in is endearing as it’s kinda nostalgic for the games of e late 1990s and early 2000s.
The janky animation really adds a lot if you ask me. It feels a lot like one of those unpolished games you'd buy randomly.
The cutscene makes him vulnerable. So meta, so genius
This is actually one of the coolest things I've seen. Sure, it is a bit jank, especially in the facial animation department, but you have something truly special here.
It’s the style
This was too brilliant. Felt like a very weird episode of Love Death and Robots

CONGRATS ON THE MEGA GRANT
So happy for them
mega grant??
mega grant?
mega grant!
For those unfamiliar, Epic Games really supports the creator community, that they will give Mega Grants to select parties. Mega Grants are basically just boat loads of money for the recipients to use for developing new tech and medias and stuff that the recipients are known for. They do this to the Blender Development Fund, multiple games and animations studios, and now, Corridor Digital.
How much reverb should I add to the voice over?
Sam: YES.
I think he did that to cover up the poor recoding conditions, since they got the voices while they filmed in the warehouse.
This is one of the most ingenious screenplays you've done, loved every second of it!
The framing interaction is such a smart idea, really good job sam and niko !

This is an incredibly creative, well executed, creepy, WALL-E / Toy Story / Metal Gear Solid / Doom / Quake feeling creation that deserves way more credit and recognition IMO.
