  • Elements are characterized by 5 aspects in Abaqus -
    1. Family
    2. Degrees of freedom (directly related to the element family)
    3. Number of nodes
    4. Formulation
    5. Integration

    sir can u explain as solid elements nodes does not have any rotational DOF(though it is assumption to simplified in mathematical point of view) then how can it deal with external moment /torque

    • @simtech0598
      @simtech0598  Před 4 lety +1

      Dear,
      This assumption is very much accurate.
      Consider a thin plate element of 1*1 cm with less thickness value (0.1 cm)...at same time consider a solid block with 1*1*1 cm.
      Now hold from both end and try to twist them..
      You will feel thin plate can be twist easily but solid block not at the same amount of force.
      The force you applied to twist...now apply as tension or compression. You will find significant deformation in both solid and thin plate.
      Hence no need of consider to rotational DOF for 3D elements.

      Dear,
      One 3D element have no rotation DOF but it can translate.
      Suppose bending case for a beam of length L.. consider 1st element at fix end..with zero translation..next nearby element.. having small deformation/translation along bending direction..next to next element have more translations along z... similarly for all element.. their deformation increases gradually..and final shape looks like bend shape..
      It is same as..one straight line may not capture ur curve precisely but small small N lines can capture curve precisely.

    Hi, you should delete the explanation of Lagrangian and eulerian part from the video. They are wrongly interpreted. They are related coordinate system used. One can refer to a good book on continuum mechanics or elasticity for detailed information.

    • @simtech0598
      @simtech0598  Před 4 lety

      Dear,
      You should follow Abaqus Documentation - Abaqus Analysis User guide - 14.1.1
      The things i explained are only from Abaqus/Lsdyna Documentation.. not my own mind creation.
      However, books talk in more generalized way, software documentation talk more FEA explanation point of view.
      If you don't know Abaqus Documentation or if you know something else its not means you are 100% correct..You cannot suggest to remove..you should 1st discuss.

I am just saying this out of my knowledge of fundamentals (I am M Tech in applied mechanics, IITD and PhD in Design, IITB ) of continuum mechanics. I can refer one extremely good book on the subject Elasticity by Martin Sadd.
      You can go through video lectures on continuum mechanics by University of Michigan.

      Thanks for suggestions..you may right in your context. But what i said in video is not about continuum mechanics theory, its just way to understand Eulerian and Lagrangian domain..how software treat them...this is all from Abaqus Documentation as i mentioned..u have to go through.
      You can share details (book name video link etc.) here itself that if anyone interested will go through it.
      Now days I'm trying to learn more about FEA once I'll little handy with it.. I'll surely go with solid and continuum mechanics.
