“Plan the parade”
No one is planning a parade
😂😂😂
I'm sure somebody did plan parade for AVS when they had one at last Summer but okkey.
Tired of hearing “he’s a bust”
@@kimberlyfath7519 Why?
Who’s planning a parade for, the death of Torontonians’ hopes during the playoffs/postseasons?
@@TheManny717 i love that only video you have is parade that was planned by someguy...
This Hockey Guy, he's a bust! CZcams got fleeced when THG started this channel. When I subscribed, I said to myself, "this won't age well." Last year was a fluke, the decline starts now! If I had any advice for THG and his channel, I'd say move them to Quebec! There's no hitting there! We know THG loves the Canucks, and that brings me to my next point. Thatcher Demko should never play again. Demko is great/awful. But back to Shannon, if there's one thing I know about him, it's that he hates almost any comments on opinions being wrong. Anyways, plan the parade for when this channel hits 300,000 subscribers!
This is the one, Internet. He wins.
*Slow clap*
🤣😂
Fantastic comment lol
I see Shannon-esque humour (an American here spelling it like my Canadian friends) rubbing off!
In general, people are reactionary, short sighted, and dramatic when it comes to commenting. I think it’s just the nature of social media.
In other words, people just like to have fun over-reacting about inconsequential things. And gatekeeping people from doing so is weird.
Ofc, dramatic commets gets likes and responds.
Oooo look at mister know-it-all here saying how people are
Yep. Very little reward for putting anything more than a minute or two of thought for a comment.
@@ugiswrong it’s true. Especially when you add in the reinforcement of the like button, which signals social acceptance, to comments! Why do you think these tech companies are the progressive, virtue signalling corporate bunch? Social media is designed to mimic real life without the substance of it; because your attention is BigTech’s currency.
Tage Thompson is a prime example of taking a long time to develop. Everyone was saying how the Blues owned the Sabres in this trade, but now its starting to look a little more even.
Eh, but that's not very practical or fair in trade evaluation. Trades are made in a single moment, no more, regardless of how long it took to finalize.
If I trade a seventh for Connor McDavid and he suddenly inexplicably never scores again while the seventh drafts the next Martin St. Louis, does that mean I made a bad trade or the other GM is brilliant? No, he's an idiot who happened to be stupid in my direction.
The reasonable projection of value (a wide berth between floor and ceiling for young players especially) at the moment of the trade determines the evaluation in my mind.
@@SabresGuy87 it comes down to the fact that the Blues will never regret that trade. They got the ultimate goal, the cup, and O’Reilly got the Conn Smyth. There’s nothing Tage Thompson can do in his career to make us regret that trade because nothing can replace a cup.
@@SabresGuy87 2019 Stanley Cup Championship will last forever. There's not a "short term winner" here at all, both teams, and players, won this trade
@@SabresGuy87 Prove it. Where's your old post? lol
@@closethockeyfan5284 Yes. Incredibly intelligent way of looking at.
If Boston trades away a FRP to get someone like Jacob Chycrun - and somehow Boston collapses in their second half of the season and the pick becomes Connor Bedard, Arizona got lucky. It doesn't mean they were brilliant. Of course, with lottery protections prevalent these days, it's less likely to happen.
I know Shannon has mentioned this one before, but fans constantly yelling "SHOOT THE PUCK" at their team when there's 3 defenders blocking the shooting lane drives me insane.
And then they shoot the puck from the point and it gets blocked immediately...
I agree but I have absolutely done it too ahahaha
There was a great comic about this. Fans shout "Shoot the puck!" The hockey player says, "oh, thanks, I never would have thought of that." Not verbatim, but that's more or less how it went.
I'm guilty
@@davidminor4213 I associate yelling "Shoot the puck!" with Blues fans. Even I, a Stars fan, was watching the Blues play 6 on 5 earlier this season and said, "you have to shoot the puck, guys," because they were down by 2 with a minute left and were just slowly moving the puck back and forth. Something has to go toward the net in that situation, or why bother with 6 on 5?
@@angiebee2225 I won't argue. We're passionate and get in our feelings. I've called Binny a bum several times. I've wanted ROR to be stripped of his C. Etc. And that's just this year. But at the end of the day, I don't mean it.
Welcome to the internet. In the past, your opinions wouldn't reach farther than your dining room table. Now, they can cross continents, and that emboldens people. They like the attention, and sometimes saying the most outlandish thing gets them the attention they want. There's also a mindset of "My opinion is based on my experiences and therefore it is fact", and some people thrive off of being the "expert". Presumptuous of me? Most definitely.
Hundreds of People yelling “SHOOOOT!!” When I’m at the leafs game and they are on the power play. Yelling that to the best hockey players in the world to shoot while your sitting there with a tall can and a beer belly 😅 will never not make me laugh.
I have only been to NHL games in St Louis, so I know my sample size is small, but my experience at games has me occasionally jokingly say, "Shoot the puck!" as soon as the Blues enter the neutral zone on a power play while watching from the comfort of my home.
the "he's a bust" is always funny, remember when rantanen got drafted and after few games in the nhl i saw quite a few people saying hes a bust, well look at him now lol
Look at Val Nichushkin! He was looking like a huge bust until he wasn't.
You need to get a legit fake sculpt of Bettman's head and put it on a museum like display pedestal. So you can say truly "He's a bust" about Bettman.
While I thumb up the joke, I disagree with the statement. I didn't like the lockout, but Bettman has made the game better and does not deserve all the boos.
@@atlasfeynman1039 He's an easy target. When you consider the top 2 goal scorers in the league this calendar year are from So Cal and Arizona, his commitment to non-traditional hockey markets starts to look justified. I knew one guy my age who played hockey when I was an early teen. He played at a facility that existed because of the (as they were called then) Mighty Ducks. Even a bad team existing in a market brings opportunity for kids to learn and love the game, and you never know where the next Matthews or Robertson will put on their first pair of skates.
Anytime there's a hit "that's a suspension" or my favorite when I watch early 2000s NHL videos and there's a hit "That wouldn't fly in today's NHL"
The one comment that drives me nuts is when a fan says "Were done, the seasons over", after losing the first game of the season.
@@SabresGuy87 NFL is different cuz they play way fewer games.
100% on Winnipeg .. there were parades and personal donations .. we were all downtown with the road blocked off waiting for the announcement that they were staying . It went on for a long time
There's also the "he's a generational talent" used to describe a 16-17 year old kid. There's a few new ones every year. If people were right even half the time just imagine what the league would look like.
That one drives me up the wall. And hearing about every 3 or 4 years that Player X is generational. 4 years isn't a generation!
I think often that there are franchise players that are called generational. It isn’t a diss to be a franchise player, let’s push this more achievable and realistic tier level.
With this generation...they're all "talented"....lols
I love how the movie "Draft Day" handles their potential bust Bo Callahan. You never find out. Could Kevin Costner have won the draft with his genius moves? Sure...But there's the potential despite the warning signs that Bo's generational talent won his team a few Superbowls. Like real life, the movie tells you that you never know until they play out their careers.
So with the first comment you mentioned, the "he's a bust before playing" line. A great example from the team I follow, the Devil's. Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier. Slow start to their career, but are really starting to blossom into true leaders
These are my favorite kind of videos, not serious, just fun. All 7 Canadian teams have been planning that parade since 1993...when is it gonna happen...
@TheVindicator Which city hall?....All of them, even the AHL cities
2065
I remember everyone saying the Habs got fleeced when we traded Galchenyuk for Domi. That alone should teach people to wait on using the word fleeced right away lol.
Try looking in the politics section of any online forum, or in Facebook group. It's even more crazy. Some of it is just entertaining in a Blazing Saddles kind of way, but very often it gets scary. Usually the hockey comments don't reach that level of sheer lunacy, but it's still entertaining at times. My favourites are the ones where people in cities like Detroit, Chicago, New York, Sunrise or Tampa think the NHL has it out for them. Like there's a giant conspiracy against their team - because the NHL wouldn't want the big ratings that would come from a Stanley Cup Final involving one of those big market teams.
That’s my most hated thing people say. The refs and the NHL are not against your team.
Like "Bettman hates Canadian teams"? I see that a lot.
As a Hawks fan, it drives me nuts. I'll see other Hawks fans say stuff like "well, the league doesn't want us to win." And I'm like, please explane Kane, Towes , Keith and 3 Stanley Cups. And before them, it wasn't the league that hated us, it was our owner.
Good and good humored overview of not always the most insightful fan comments!!
People on the internet are merely Abe Simpsons yelling at clouds.
I love this video! It is funny. I love the fact you are having fun with the people in the comments that just go crazy
Brilliant commentary Shannon! :-D
theres usually some comments about there being no fighting and it 'wasnt this soft in my day' crap, i see that alot
I read that all the time in the comments watching old fights.
That Canes RR is mediocre
It looks like more of a second alternate than a reverse retro
@@FloatingWaterTank I thought it was a jersey from an old-timers beer league. They play the Kneebraces on Friday.
@@FloatingWaterTank I said the same, looks like a basic third
It's not even mediocre. It's downright awful.
The Hockey Guy needs to do a phone video with him calling Vancouver City Hall and actually try planning a parade! Ha ha ha that would be AWESOME!
Remember during the pandemic , all the “just cancel the season” comments was about the most annoying thing ever.
Up there with calling the cups in the shortened years fake/illegitimate/whatever.
" Can you wait? They'll suck later!" 😂
I maintain that the Hurricanes will not have a good Reverse Retro until we get a jersey with the main logo as Pucky.
Amen. That's what should have been the Reverse Retro.
You really are the best. I may not always agree with your opinion, but i definitely respect it.
Comment ive heard most is "This team is done" after the first 5 games....silly to think about it that way.
Then there is the opposite of the negative crowd - the people who think they are the only true fans of a team because they won't acknowledge ANY of the team's shortcomings. If a fellow fan of that club says anything at all critical they are immediately "not a true fan." Where do you sign up as the judge of true fandom.
The Rino effect.
Self-appointed gatekeepers of true fandom are, indeed, super obnoxious.
Mine was the idiot the other day commenting about The Hockey Guy is just some guy reading stats off a board and brings no value to his videos. Life what the eff!!?? If making videos were so easy and mindless where is his channel? I want to point and laugh at his failed attempt to "just read stats off a board". Keep doing what you do Shannon.
Now you are showing off! A new reverse retro every video…I love it!
I hear that fan bases of southern US teams don't know anything about hockey. This is not true. First of all these teams have been where they are for many years now, Some are at a minimum second gen hockey fans. There has also been a huge migration from up north including Canada to southern states. (I personally escaped NY to North Carolina in 1996). My kids now 21 and 25 one girl one boy both were on skates right after they started walking. Both play and coach. You have many NHL players and refs both current and retired live in southern US. (Many in NC during the off months. Some who have never played for the Hurricanes. These guys are coaching the youth hockey! I played Jr and a stint in the minors. I have been to lots of so called hockey towns. I have to say the fan base in Raleigh NC not only know the sport but back their team and has more passion for their team than some Canadian or original six teams!!! Rant over.
“Lazy.” Every time their team fails or a player fails to make a play, that is the go to explanation.
While we sit in a recliner...
As a Yotes fan I feel like I should get number 5 tattooed.
It's soooo tired. I didn't hear any American fans calling for the Senators to move to Houston.
There is actual coyotes fans out there??
Shannon The Hockey Guy beats Sports Net , and the CBC Hockey Night in Canada panel studio commentators every year with his hockey knowledge on all teams and their talent . Keep SUBSCRIBING and LIKE everyone ! This is hockey talk . Enjoy .
every team that trades away "Future Considerations" immediately loses that deal...
Not necessarily, if they get cap relief in return.
Can't wait for Retro Jersey review not necessarily for your picks but for the comments which will be entertaining
For me it's the "mickey mouse cup" or "Doesn't count in my book" when X team wins the Stanley Cup. Regardless of the circumstances every playoff team has to survive four 7-round series and only one team will do so. Has there been bad calls and questionable moments? Sure. Do I wish Y team won the round/cup instead of X? Of course. Do I think the Stanley Cup Champs shouldn't count for any of those moments or are less deserving? Not at all.
Love the way you said that last line.
devils fan here, glad it's not just our fanbase that does this nonsense, thankfully all of our expert couch scouts have went from "nico is a terrible captain, wasted pick" and "jack is too small super bust" to "holtz is a career AHLer , bust", thanks Shannon for reminding me I'm not alone
the thing with Matt Cooke I never understood is why opposing players didn't take him out themselves. Why wait until he hurts one of your best players? Either take out his knee or run him into the boards. There were goons back when he played, so why could he do what he did with very little repercussion, like the way Tie Domi dealt with Ulf Samuelsson?
You're the greatest, Shannon. And that comment will age well.
My favorite comment:
"(Insert coach's name) doesn't make enough adjustments!," as if deviating from a game plan doesn't cause other problems down the lineup and may in fact negate another advantage.
As a Stars fan, one of the biggest fan pet peeves with Bowness was the constant line changes. Just leave it alone for a game or two, please!
I wish fans would take a more sensible approach like you do. A mix of Social Media and fanatical fans creates such a ridiculous discourse. People like you are the best fans to talk to hockey about because it is a much more level-headed approach and creates a really fun dialog.
Can I just say. I'm a lifelong Canadian Devils fan. I'm just enjoying this shockingly fun ride!
Toronto boy here and I like them too… along with the actual devil. Hail Satan
As Ken Daneyko says, "anything can happen in Jersey".
The Hockey Guy uploaded a new video? Plan the parade!🥳 I'll work on a War of 1812 float.
I want a 10 minute video of nothing but Shannon doing the "stupid hockey guy" keyboard warrior.
Yes lol
11:20 Around 2011-2012 Matt Cooke was going to the same church as my sister and he gave a little talk/speech that I went to.
Sounded like he had a pretty bad childhood & teenage years with his dad but he said by the time he got to the NHL that he had so much anger & hate built up from being helpless that he just wanted to lash out & hurt anyone and everyone he could. He was in tears sobbing and said few years prior he was saved & he was able to forgive the people who hurt him as a child. He said he was able to let go of all the darkness & vengence he's held in his whole life.
It was a very moving experience for me at least. I'm getting a little tight in the chest & hot in the cheeks just remembering it.
Leafs fans were planning a parade when they signed John Tavares.
Thanks giving, you definitely know who your team really is, then general rule, such as double digits points out.
Intresting video thank you
I can't figure out what the hell has happened to my Blue Jackets. If this isn't the best roster we have ever had, it is certainly ONE OF the best.
Also, this is one of my top 3 favorite videos that you have done. This was great.
so sick of people complaining about the jackets needs time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not close....when you guys went all in for Duschene ...that team should've at least gotten there(finals)
HURRICANES!!! 🌀 🌀 🌀
Nicely done
Remember when everyone called Jack Hughes a bust after his rookie year? Good example for #1. Good example for #2 is the Ryan O’Reilly trade, everyone after year 1 said it’s a landslide victory for the blues, and now the trade looks very even and fair.
Definitely on the Blues and Buffalo trade. Helped the Blues get a cup and helped the Sabres with their rebuild. Immediate benefit doesn't outweigh long term benefit when each side has different objectives.
@@angiebee2225 I still look at that trade as a massive win for the blues because it gave them their first cup, which is something that just can’t ever be replaced. But Buffalo got great value for it too.
Great talk!
I agree about the parade. Habs fans love to use that against Leafs fans.
BTW, it's funny to hear you joke about someone's pants in a CZcams video since we all know you don't wear pants on yours. 🤣
Thanks for settling argument.. we were all betting if you are wearing pants during your videos ..lol
I think it's the pettiness between fanbases, we enjoy trash talking each other lmao
This is why I can’t comment on any post, video, or anything ever because all ten of these things annoy me soooooo much. Great video.
Yes, Shesterkin was other worldly because of 1 good year! 🤣
Discussion video + Shannon wearing Canes kit = Did not even need to see the text of Question #5 to know it inspired the jersey choice! :)
And even with Dundon signing a long-term lease after he bought the team, I still laugh when I see the “relocate the Canes to Austin” chirps every now and then.
Carolina would have to suffer epic Hartford-level frustration to move (and they came close with the playoff drought before Rod was hired as head coach) and even then it was never a serious consideration.
Karmanos said it best when he moved from Hartford…”it’s not just a city, it is a *REGION*”. Even Bettman acknowledged it when presenting the Cup in 2006!
This bunch of jerks won’t let our Bunch of Jerks leave willingly!
And yes, even though the Canes jersey featured in question #9, we both know #5 was the inspiration!
Mind you, I’d have loved the Canes doing a “Bunch of Jerks” reverse retro jersey! It’d be so on brand and would scream “take my money NOW!!!!” ;)
They'll never leave here...they're making 300% profit on concessions
I liked the “Draisaitl’s contract is way too big and too long.”
Don’t hear that one anymore.
for every week that McDavid and Draisaitl are #1 and #2 in points, any people that said this should not be able to say anything about players for a year
Watching this video VS the 1st intermission of Avs vs Sabers (hope this makes your board in a future comment video ha!)
For what it's worth, my interpretation of many of these comments? They are often intentionally made tongue-in-cheek (which can sometimes be difficult to convey). Take for example the, "Plan the parade" comment: nine times out of ten the person saying it is being hyperbolic and knows the chances are still slim that the team will indeed win the cup. The comments which are dismissive of up and coming players are the more bothersome to me personally - we should be disinclined to pile into a young, developing player who hasn't quite lived up to the hype - yet.
And for what it's worth Shannon, I love that you own up to your unique hockey jersey fashion sense. In my book, it's only exceeded by your unique taste in ball (puck?) caps. *We love you because you're you! Go forth and be you forevermore.*
Every hockey fan needs to see this
Oh I’m excited for this one 🍿
You can thank Yzerman for the “fleeced” comments
Mike Milbury was known for being fleeced.
The "president's trophy curse" comment never made much sense to me either. For fun, I remember tracking what overall seed won the Stanley Cup since 1990 in a spreadsheet, and it turned out that the 1st overall seed actually won the cup 20% of the time. Yes, this means they didn't win 80% of the time, but seeds 2 through 8 were 6.66 to 10% to win a cup. I think the 4th seed might have been 20% as well. You had to go down to the 13-16th seed for the percentages to be really low or 0%.
Generally, from what I gathered, to increase your odds of winning a Stanley Cup, you should want to win the President's Trophy. It doesn't mean you will win, but it does statistically give you the highest odds. We also know that if you don't win the President's Trophy, you should want to be in the top 8 seeds because those have won the cup almost all the time.
If we look at the cap era, I think the numbers are a bit different. The president's trophy winner wins more often than the average team, but iirc there's another seed that has won more often. Might be the 4th. The sample size is small, of course. Anyway, one should also consider the margins of winning it as well as the fact that teams in different divisions don't even play the same schedule. A good team in a weak division has a big advantage compared to an equally good team in a strong division.
D-Men and Goalies in particular can take years to show what they can do (or can't) at the NHL level.
Leaf fan here. City hall no longer accepts my calls about the parade
LMAO! Poor Leafs! where should we send the flowers?
Wow.interesting. good stuff! Great video! 👏 👍 👏
Remember the trade we had a disagreement about a few years ago. when the Canes traded Jeff Skinner for a player and a few picks? one of those picks became Pytor Kochtekov the Canes goalie of the future and the other Alexander Nisikhin a big defenseman tearing it up in the KHL
"Don't worry they'll suck later": 🤣🤣
The one I see a lot is when your team wins the refs are good when your team losses the refs are awful everytime
Sometimes officiating is bad enough that everyone agrees it was bad, though.
hey dude love your conten t. have you done a video about why the nords left quebec? the story behind it ? the players involved? i heard a friend once say that the lindros saga was what did it
If I remember correctly, at the time the Canadian dollar was very weak compared to the American dollar, and they weren't a big enough market to overcome it.
@@SabresGuy87 The owner was able to make more in Colorado. Quebec was always a viable market. The Canadian dollar really hurt, too.
A good one to add would be talking about tanking. Every team that makes a move that doesn't help this exact moment seems to be tanking to someone. For example, Detroit traded out any number of guys that won't be around for when they're good again (while signing good stop gaps and hoarding picks), and you would've thought it was the same as Pittsburgh sending down a hot goalie to get Lemieux.
Nice video. How about #11..."The coach is on the hot seat".
I think the problem with the RR jerseys are twofold: One, teams have been doing retro jerseys for outdoor games, alternate jerseys, anniversary jerseys, etc. So when Adidas says "let's make a retro jersey" teams are out of ideas. In addition to that, 700 people have already designed concepts for all 32 teams and teams probably don't want to accidentally copy a design. So you get 2020 Dallas.
Top 10 armchair GM's go to quotes.
#10 Be careful what you wish for boss! We are a sarcastic bunch!!
Hey THG! Luv'n ya.
Fighting trolls is such a sisyphean task, but anyway, props for Shannon.
In the NFL I always see people saying “you might as well start playing flag football.” It really pisses me off
My Father and I always proclaim any player who makes a mistake to be a bust immediately when we watch games together,, I definitely agree with your sentiment that it literally means nothing because it''s said so much. XD
My favorite is people saying the hockey is 'soft' and that it 'used to be for men' every time a player gets suspended for a dirty hit. These types of 'fans' have zero concern for player safety, and have zero understanding of how head injuries can alter someone's life forever.
I saw one yesterday where someone commented on a facebook post, "I though hockey was immune from liberals." Like, this dude thought hockey was some exclusive club to conservatives and republicans. As if there aren't players and fan from all over the world, with all kinds of political views lol.
I also love the people who still insist that hockey shouldn't be played in warmer states. They act like zero teams in warmer climates have had any success, when clearly, that isn't true.
The closest thing that I’ve personally seen that could’ve led to a lifetime ban was the Marty McSorley/Donald Brashear incident. If that didn’t warrant a ban, I’m not sure what would.
They've let them get away with a LOT over the years, game is way better now.
Plan the parade, The Hockey Guy is back!
The Arizona situation has opened the door to teams temporarily moving to university or junior rinks while new buildings are built on the same real estate they currently play at. It's actually good for all the teams.
"...they'll suck later..." Bwahaha.
Any mini 'stupid hockey guy' rant gets no less than a grin and usually laughter. Today was no different. Great!
“Why are we trying to win games, tank forBedard!”
Yo I just noticed the tree. It looks awesome
0:24 "Kuzmenko signed in Vancouver!?!? He's gonna be a bust!". I distinctly recall a couple of those.
About the fleecing part I always remember being fleeced b with the PLD trade. Ohh man still stings…. Not.
"Pull him". The goalie. After giving up the first goal of the game.
Ok the Hurricanes Reverse Retro 2.0 jersey is ok but not really a Reverse Retro it's basically a copy of their away jersey but in red that could become their new home jersey
Some probably thought you would be a bust when you first started your channel. 260k subscribers later now look at you. 👍
the comment that always makes me laugh is (I am a Toronto fan living in Edmonton) I am not watching hockey anymore because they traded Wayne Gretzky
Videos like this make me think maybe The Hockey Guy and Steve Dangle are “opposite ends of the same coin.”
What makes them similar is, if you listen to enough videos from both CZcamsrs, most people will be able to tell, there is a sense of wanting to have fun making these videos.
The difference is THG is more subtle and haha with his Jokes in his videos, while Steve Dangle is more 6 Red Bulls and a super saiyan goku with how he has fun in his videos. Both have fun making videos about hockey, but execute said videos in completely different ways
It would be interesting to see who in the past would not make it based on advanced stats. Though at the time when the players where play hockey was different so to compare them to modern stats would be silly.
