I agree about Alina needing to remove the scar. Her growing into her own person will definitely make her and Mal a healthier relationship going forward. My only worry is that Mal doesnt really have his own arc separate from her, at least not yet. I completely understand the love and care they have for each other - you can feel how genuine it is and that they make each other really happy, but he needs something outside of her too. (Edit: Just another quick thought. I do think though the reason Alina was so 'Mal Mal Mal' in the beginning was because she wasnt receiving any of his letters. If she had just heard from him to know he was doing fine I think she would've embraced her new role faster. Same goes with Mal. They didnt even get to say goodbye and he wasnt receiving her letters either, so he had no way of knowing if she was okay or how she was doing. They both have spent time away from each other before and been fine, considering Mal seemed to be coming back from a mission in the beginning. Really I think if they'd just received some letters they would've calmed down lol).
such a good point about them not receiving the letters! considering that all they had growing up was each other, it makes sense for them to be this preoccupied with the other person and their wellbeing, especially after not even being able to properly say goodbye..
You hit the nail on the head about Darklina and Malina. Yes, heâs manipulating her and he often tells more truths than lies, but he weaponizes that. However, his feelings are real and thatâs what messes him up. He tries to weaponize those feelings and their connection, but Alina ultimately gets the better of him. Ben Barnes said himself that he âcaught real feelings.â He also speaks to the part of her that is dark and power hungry. And I am 100% in agreement about villain/heroine ships and hero corruption arcs. I want more of them and I wanted it for Darklina in the books. I feel like a mutual balance of villain redemption and heroine corruption would be ideal, and the show versions of these characters have even more potential for that even though I know itâs not going to happen. The reason I canât get into Malina in the books or the show is, like you said, they are so co-dependent that itâs like they literally cannot exist without one another. In the book, we know that itâs because of Mal that Alina has been repressing her power and denying herself for him, which makes her sick and weak. When she and Mal get together and go on the run, she reverts back to the sickly, dependent girl she was at the beginning. It really feels like he holds her back. Here in the show, we see that Malâs arc also completely revolves around Alina and the two donât really have identities outside of each other. While show Malina fixed some of the things I had issues with, they still feel way too co-dependent and honestly all the childhood flashbacks only increased my view of them having a familial bond. It feels to me like they are endgame because they are all each other has, and all theyâve ever had or ever will have, rather than their individual journeys and goals complementing each other. It was for that reason that I liked the scar removal and donât like that it was framed as a bad choice on her part. And yes, I absolutely hated the name reveal but thatâs a separate rant.
@@FullofLit Yeah Iâm fine with show Malina, they had some really cute moments. They donât personally compel me much, but Iâm fine with the endgame. I will say that my unpopular opinion about the show is that I don't mind that they dropped the Aleksander reveal so early đ To me, him telling her his name in the books is him saying "I'm sharing this part of myself with you that I haven't shared with anyone in a long time, if even ever" and I love that so so much, it still breaks my heart to this day, especially knowing how things end. However, in the show, him telling her his name, to me, is him saying, "You can drop the title, I don't want you to see me as your superior" and I love that too. Totally understand people being upset about that particular change though because it does alter the progression of their dynamics in a big way, but I'm still intrigued to see where the show goes with them from here. I love Malina and they are soulmates in my eyes! but yes i do agree with everything you said about both Alina and Mal having to grow separately before getting together. Like someone said in the comments i do think both of them would have chilled a little if they new that both of them where okey.
IdkâŠthereâs a lot of things Iâm willing to forgive villains for (murdering, manipulating) in fantasy, especially if itâs for the âgreater goodâ but something I will never forgive is sexual exploitation, especially that of minor. What the Darkling did to Genya is unforgivable and I believe him to be irredeemable and I will never root for Darklina because of it. I loved what Genya said to him in RoW, because I think it was Bardugoâs way of telling her readers that she stands by her ending. Buttttttt Ben Barnes is so yummy and I saw a more genuine side of him throughout most of the show.
The scene when the Darkling uses Alina's power for his own gain through the Stag antlers always seemed like a sexual assault or violation to me. I see Darklina's allure but that scene was difficult to watch.
@@angelazayn4878 Yeah it was a clear violation and so uncomfortable. I can't defend him the way I used to when I was a teen. Great villain though. Love to hate him

@@FullofLit yeah, I was also so freaking sick of seeing that medow scene. It felt like they were trying to shove the Malina agenda down my throat. Sorry but no, I'm a Darklina fan forever and for always đ€
I prefer Darklina because I like the idea of The Darkness calling to The Light but Malina is definitely healthier than a lot of couples I've seen definitely healthier than in the Books.
I think the reason they dropped the name so early is because they wanted Darklina to have actual trust, not just him manipulating and using her, I think Kirigan has genuine feelings for her so instead of making his name a long-drawn-out story ark they just gave it out to show that he does trust her
I totally get what you're saying about Alina needing this for her to be the person to "stand in her own power," which I loved how you phrased and to give herself agency. That's also where I struggled with the books and frankly why I couldn't get into them because Alina in the books was given nearly as much character development as this adaptation has given her. I also think very much in the same way where in the books, Alina was written in a way where it felt like she and Mal, unlike some characters did have their own arcs/storylines outside of their partners but with Mal it was so co-dependent. However, in this adaptation, I feel like we get a better sense of the two of them, both individually and when they're together because they not only care deeply about each other but they've been dependent on each other survival whereas in the books that did not match up and it was a lot more stuff going on to where I was thinking it was a very uneven verging on an unhealthy relationship. Now do I think this show could've benefited from having maybe 2 or even 3 more episodes where we could've seen more of that juxtaposition between seeing Alina taking on this new role and seeing maybe more stuff from her and Mal's past to further that point, absolutely but that's a whole separate discussion I think. I just feel when everything comes to light, pun slightly not intended, it would've meant so much more when we see Alina stand on her own and had so much more emotional weight when everything we know is gonna happens. (Trying not to spoil for people that are watching this show/series for the first time. Sorry for the slight rant.
Well, as a reader who has read a lot of books where the good girl always chooses the bad guy, I am very tired of it always being the same, maybe in the end the guy repents and becomes good and you know the HEA, but what if he made the heroine suffer a lot, where is the pain that was caused, it's okay to forgive him if he really regrets, but to go back to him after all, it bothers me a lot because then even if it is fiction, it teaches us that women should forgive everything to the man. So I love the Malina relationship, because it's pure and healthy, it's true I like my romances hot and angsty, but for me to like a couple more they have to have an emotional connection, and for me that's Malina, they would die for each other and never question their love even though they have their moments, and Darklina is just lust and ambition.
But is Malina healthy? Alina dragged her friends through the fold where they died just so she could be with Mal and she never even acknowledged that. People died because of her obsession with Mal. She literally self-hatred herself as a child to stay with Mal and has been following him around most of her life. That doesn't sound healthy to me lol
@@ellax325 yes malina is not healthy or pure actually, in the books malina is even worse, I think that malina fans like to argue that we should support malina cuz is healthy, but in the end neither darklina nor malina is really healthy. She should have ended up alone or with nikolai in my opinion lol
iâm not even a darklina shipper but i too gasped and screamed when the darkling CASUALLY reveals his sacred name to her SO SOON. ugh. i feel robbed too.
Ur reactions were literally just what mine were when I watched it, especially the scene when he tells her his name, I would've liked it to have been more special because in the books it was such a big deal and here it was just like, hey btw this is my real name that I've hidden for years, it put me off a little!
I read the books and I know everything but I genuinely feel like we REALLY deserve a proper lovers to enemies to lovers story and darklina has SUCH potential!! I NEED THEM TO CHANGE THE ENDING please đ„ș
I think the same for malina and Darklina you're totally right. Alina needs to be more independent and embrace her true identity without Mal. i also agree when you said that you would love to see more vilain/ hero endgame.
I think the reason the revealed the darklings name early was bc they wanted to humanize the him more. It bothered me at first too but the show writers were trying to write a fundamentally different character but I understand why it bothers the book fans
Darkling cleaning the fountain during their "date" just gets me every time lmao. It's such a random move. And your reaction to his name drop lmao, ILU. The messiness that she scarred (mutilated??) her own hand just so she won't have to leave Mal just...I hate it so much, so I am glad she erased it. I know Mal didn't know what she did when they were children - and his character is so different to his whiny petty fuckboi "I'm not special" self, that I think he'd probably be mad if he knew how dependent she was. Can't wait to see your next reaction to watch right now. And the crows are the best, Mesper being the OTP of the show etc etc. Kaz in his artist outfit had me howling. I wished they fixed Genya's eyebrows and died them also red.
Iâve only seen the show but so far I donât ship Malina as a romantic relationship. Alinaâs always ignoring who she is so theyâll stay together, itâs not until she takes her focus off of Mal that she begins to focus on her power and what it means to her. I also find Mal very uninteresting in comparison to the other characters. I feel like sheâs outgrown him. He gives me Gale vibes. He represents who Alina was, not who she is after embracing her identity as Grisha and Sun Summoner. I really liked darklina cause I mean, itâs Ben Barnes come on. But really, because the darkling is the only one that can truly understand what their power does to them, how it alienates them from other Grisha. But heâs the antagonist so yeah, I donât see it happening in the long run. I agree that she should be alone, and explore the extent of her power.
"nina despises involuntary service ...", proceeds to get involuntary service from inn keeper. hope the irony was intentional. not that meat eating viewers not wanting goat to die, would be less hypocritical . btw congrats on your original thoughts about need for heroine finding agency by being manipulated in to a willing tool of an older mass murderer.

@@sitting_nut Okay so we're doing this. This will be my last comment here since clearly you aren't very receptive and this particular response will mostly be for my benefit. I'll make sure the details won't pass over your head. 1. "Trying to guilt the reactors": you are calling them (and other viewers who might have attachments for the goat) hypocritical for their diet, therefore passing judgement that wasn't warranted and mostly irrelevant to the topic at hand (survival and animal therapy vs vegan/vegetarian diets). In this video's case specifically (and the reason why I decided to comment on your comment here rather than other places) is because you decided to go further and condescendly attack her for her "original opinions". No matter what you say, you cannot say this sarcasm wasn't meant as anything other than passive AGGRESSIVENESS -> making the reactor feel guilty for voicing opinions. 2. "Waste of time" are your words, though I'll admit I alluded to it first. In every video, you made comments being rude (see no 1) while when I leave comments in such videos I try to be constructive or encouraging; ever heard of "if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all"? My comment to your op is admittedly rude, but after seeing your incessant repeated behavior I decided to come for you as well. The waste of time isn't the 'watching videos' part, it's the 'leaving unnecessary negativity in every single video' part, though I get it doesn't take you long to copy and paste the same insults. 3. "Lying about seeing OP elsewhere": the fact that only half of your insulting OP was shared on many videos doesn't change the fact that i WASNT lying; you still shared your comment ["nina despises involuntary service ..." ... would be less hypocritical .] on ["so many reaction videos"]. Additionally, I never said I was refering to OP "in full"; when 80% of OP has been posted many times, it means I'm not lying. 4. "Objecting to your watching the same videos": I never said I opposed to your watching, simply your unconstructive and uncreative commentary. In fact, I actually encouraged you to keep watching. Good luck with your future internet conflicts.

These reaction and edits are everything!!!!!
iâm not even a darklina shipper but i too gasped and screamed when the darkling CASUALLY reveals his sacred name to her SO SOON. ugh. i feel robbed too.
âšDarklina as badass coupleâš

FullofLit Iâm still not losing hope đ„ș

Ur reactions were literally just what mine were when I watched it, especially the scene when he tells her his name, I would've liked it to have been more special because in the books it was such a big deal and here it was just like, hey btw this is my real name that I've hidden for years, it put me off a little!
I read the books and I know everything but I genuinely feel like we REALLY deserve a proper lovers to enemies to lovers story and darklina has SUCH potential!! I NEED THEM TO CHANGE THE ENDING please đ„ș
Darklina The Kylo/Ren that can đ€ maybe.
I wished they fixed Genya's eyebrows and died them also red.
i agree with you about Malina but I hate Darklina more so.. iâm team Alina being a bad bitch by herselfđ đ»
Loved your reaction . React to The witcher season 1 ,
Iâve only seen the show but so far I donât ship Malina as a romantic relationship.
Youâre soooo right about the Gale comparison, and yeah I really donât like Malina as a couple. NoâŠ. Just no. đ
I love the crows đ«
Darklina

You know Daria and the Darkiling's ship name would be either daria or darkling so it's a win, win
darkling is creepy . he is fuking 100 years older than alina. thats why i dont darklina.
At least Alina is in her Twenties than 17 like..."cough, cough" Twilight.
@@angelazayn4878 yeah but still i find both hips cringe ,
inej and kaz are infinite time better ship than this creepy ship.
well nobody asks you to like it?
@@nyxldx nobody asks you you to give your opinion.
@@animeloverz6443 and yet here I am
there's no need to get triggered
"nina despises involuntary service ...", proceeds to get involuntary service from inn keeper. hope the irony was intentional. not that meat eating viewers not wanting goat to die, would be less hypocritical .
btw congrats on your original thoughts about need for heroine finding agency by being manipulated in to a willing tool of an older mass murderer.
Iâve seen this comment on so many reaction videos lol, you really have nothing better to do with your time xD
@@biancaarcand4316 did i hear pot calling kettle something?
i have no objections to your watching same reaction videos as i do, and reading and replying to my comments, whereever they are . but if you say "you really have nothing better to do", to me , you should say the exact same thing to yourself, since only way you would know i allegedly waste my time that way, is for you to waste time same way (after me too) .
btw i am pretty sure i didn't write op here in full anywhere else. 1st para yes, 2nd para definitely no, since it is specific to this particular reaction video. so you lied too since you probably only saw part of that comment elsewhere.
@@sitting_nut thereâs a difference between leaving encouraging comments and trying to guilt the reactors. Which one seems more like a waste of time, do you think? Also, you just admitted to have posted the comment elsewhere; how am I lying?
Happy to see your integrations though! Glad to see you promoting the actual hard work that goes into making these videos with views and leaving comments.
â@@biancaarcand4316 how are my comments , like the op here, " trying to guilt the reactors"? i don't see any such thing on my part. do explain your words.
do you think your own hypocritical comments here finding alleged waste of time on my part, while doing the same exact thing, are "encouraging"?
i didn't say any of it was "waste of time", you said that. read what i actually wrote . if you think i am allegedly wasting time, so are you.
i was clear enough on your lying above; you are lying you have seen op above in full elsewhere. you may have seen part of it, but certainly not the 2nd para specific to this reaction video.
anyway as i said, i have no objection to your watching the same reaction videos as me, reading my comments, and replying to them , even when your comments don't make any logical sense, are hypocritical, and contain lies.
Malina endgame sis
Youâre too cute
@FullofLit - I swear to god... You talked over/looked away from the screen in like 70% of the scenes in this show.
Malina reminds me of Gale x Katniss and NOT in a good way (I mean, there is no good way to Gale and Katniss, let's be honest. Its like so boring lol).
