i love how they "dont want to hire people who don't understand that it's 80-100 hour weeks" but literally any time i've asked a banking/consulting recruiter about workload they're always like "oh we have great work life balance! it's an awesome culture" - like... why can't corporate simps just be honest?

ANSWER: Corporate banking really cares about your image. Most people are afraid that if they say anything bad about the job they won't be able to go back and work there. Plus other jobs will not hire you for the same reason. So bad mouthing about any IB, Consulting, PE jobs is considered taboo...

@@bun-bun5610 don't bother applying to chase if you have unsettled/unfinished loans (government institutions, lending companies, etc.) also, if you have unsettled bills from your college/university, most likely they'll fail you as well during the recuruitment process...

I had a networking call and they said that getting an interview is all through pymetrics and the hirevue now for JPM. They said networking doesnât do much now. On WSO people said the same thing
i could see networking being less important now but will confirm in a future video. i do know at least for MBA recruiting networking is still important though maybe they don't use digital interviews as much

My experience is, GPA doesn't mean anything in too many cases. Some of the best GPAs turned out not too well.

Never heard of a 4.3 scale. I assume most recruiters are thinking out of 4. If anything put 3.7/4.0 or 3.7/4.3 if youâre worried!
Iâve been working in banking for roughly 8 years. I work for private client at chase as a banker currently. Do you think transitioning into investment banking is a good? More specifically in acceptance.
I consider that it is going to depend on what are of the bank are you, if you are in the commercial retail, it's going to be difficult to enter. But if you are in the corporate finance area it will be useful. I started in the corporate area and the it had given me a wide panorama of the industries and how banks use to review the debt/investments. In that case going to IB for M&A and Debt restructuring was a good idea given the knowledge. But if you are in the commercial area for individual people loans, hmmmm I would try an MBA or something similar to enter to a nice boutique to later go directly to a big firm

What advice do you have for someone entering the finance job market later in life? I am going to be graduating with a bachelors in corporate finance in May at 37 and all of my previous work experience is unrelated to banking. Hi man Iâll be a business analyst and found offers in IB, I Dont know how their condition is. I knew through other that you have bankers analysts and associates and thatâs all. I didnt find people speaking about business intelligence or business analysts in IB or quant analysts.

JPM recruits!? I am a CPC with Chase and their "service" has declined over the last three years. Closing offices, failing to return calls, and low paying rate bonds with 500k invested. I asked about REITs and received an opinion versus a well thought out investment plan. Some REITs are paying 11% in divideds....I may take my half a mil elsewhere.

especially when the reason for a lower gpa is a hard major!
@@rareliquid I usually donât add it on my resume even tho is over 3.3 because for me it was very hard to get a 4.0 or perform the best when I had a full time job because I needed to take care of me and my mom. However, I was still there going to every class, so now that I work for a bank and I have a good career I never look at GPA (at all) when looking at a resume because there is millions of people that are super super talented, disciplined and dedicated that donât have a good GPA either because of work, English as a second language, bad exam takers, etc.
What about an incomplete masters degree with higher gpa than complete bachelors degree with lower gpa? Have 18/30 credits done for the masters done a few years ago but always left it out of resume. Math degree in USA.
Next year will be my 14th year with JPMC. đ

Little note:
7:33 I would have probably advocated to keep the deadlines as is or even push them back further into junior fall.
JPM has the brand, strong enough to attract top candidates even later on in the recruitment process, it s because of this thought process that the IB recruitment process have gotten so F**** up on WallStreet. Some leadership from a big BB IB player could help bring the process back to normal and enable students to actually critically think about what they want to do and build some experience in their freshman AND sophomore summer...
Maybe a coalition of HR teams between all BB and EB coming together in a professional association setting rules for student recruitment would be the solution...
Someone has to start to change the situation
that's what HR thought as well but then later they moved recruiting processes earlier because we were losing to many candidates. and all the BB and EBs would never come together to agree on that haha just not something they would do but i agree they should

yes we did receive a resume book from the application portal but it was for one of the later superdays and it's a bit of a black hole. every applicant does need to apply through there though
Very informative video!
First off, I'd like to know what if I work in IB company, do I have to pose as an extrovert? I am very introverted but that does not mean I am anti-social or shy. I just have relatively less interest in what other people are doing but more focusing on myself. So, my human interaction is quite deep and narrow. My father has an introverted personality but I do not know how he survived from his workplace. I have never asked what he has done because he seemed always stressed out from his work.
When I was a 6th grader, I literally spent the same hours beside my father as he worked daily for two weeks. While I was being in his office, everyone seems like a family, and really had a warm heart. Maybe that is because it was Seoul Office. It could be different in NY Office.
Also, I heard there is lots of "downtime" although IB workers spend 17 hours a day in the office.
How often or how long do you think they have the downtime or somewhat less rigorous time?
I've seen my father as CEO/MD at JPM for the past 20 years. Well, he has moved to CVC PEF as a chair and partner. I do fully understand how rigorous it is to live as a front-office IB banker. And, now I don't want to see myself working in such a harsh environment just for fortune. I would probably lose my life before even having a fortune.
Three significant events I can remember by now since I was young age were that he abhorred and complained about Ivy League graduates back then because of their arrogant attitudes at interviews, and I met Jamie Dimon in the living room at my home when I was 5th grader when he became CEO of JPM NY as One Bank and JPM completed a merger. I was thinking, who is this old man who got invited and is having dinner all of sudden at my home?
The third one, that he was bursting into tears at his 18th year in JPM because his work is overloaded and so time-consuming, and not only burdensome but also stressful. I did not quite understand being a high schooler. Now in my late 20s, I understand how he has been doing at his work.
Regarding qualifications, what do your think if the applicants had low gpa tha k requirements for bachelor degree but had higher gpa for master degree with some experience?
Once you pass the first filter ... It does not mean much your Gpa once you left bachelor's, all is about knowing your numerical skills, modelling and known of the industry (oil, retail, proj fin, etc). And having tons of knowledge of the network and industry as well .
